[Assembly] Skipping steps 26 & 27 on the Warlord?

There's a huge amount of detail I was amazed to see on the "waist" of the Warlord Titan... and then there are two large sets of plate covering over those.

I'm of two minds, the plates look necessary to add bulk, but at the same time I know I'll miss the chance to paint all that detail. Ideas? :/

I’ve glued the plates to the frame but will paint it separately and glue it on the body after I’ve painted everything.

You can use super glue but I prefer the plastic glue bond so have just stuffed bluetac in the bits the glue will contact.

I added the plates latter, I get your point with the detail but the only attention it got from me was two washes over the leadbelcher base coat and a dry brush

The detail would be hard to notice when the main arm guns are attached

My guns will swivel on magnets, so that's not that much of an issue and I wanted to go a little bit beyond in painting of those. I think I will paint it, leave the plates painted and separate and leave it to the final owner to decide whether they want the plates on or not.

Probably very fiddly but I was thinking maybe some 1x1mm magnets might help. The crevice seems to be 1mm high. So it is likely you can fit a magnet in there, center it. Then remove some matter from components 52 and 55, so they are aligned, 2+mm deep (the component width at that point is 3mm so you don't have much room). Add another magnet there (beware of the North/South poles). Or alternatively, some steel element (e.g. bit from a steel nail).

It appears that all three Titan classes were modeled to use 5x1mm magnets. Even the Reaver’s carapace Weapon Mount, which is intended to mount Warhound arm weapons, has a 5x1mm recess.

Awesome thanks for that :D when I pick up a Reaver I'll try to remember.

Awesome thanks for that :biggrin.: when I pick up a Reaver I'll try to remember.

Started building my Reavers today; bear in mind that although the Reaver's carapace mount is ready for 5mm magnets, the arms aren't apparently intended to be magnetised at all, unfortunately, they're just ball joints, which are very fiddly to drill and line up correctly.

So I've used 5mm for the carapace, 4mm in the 'top' socket for the arm and 3mm in the arm/ball itself.

The “elbow” is a 5mm circle, while the “shoulder” ball socket is pretty easy to cut.

The Reaver was the last big model FW created that was not designed digitally, but new plastic small scale model is virtually identical to the full size resin model.

The solution is to build 2 warlords. One with and one sleeker, stripped down one without.

It looks so sleek and badass without the carapace weapons as well that this is a tempting idea. One to watch if specialist games eventually do something to bring back the old AT 'light' warlord patterns like the Nightgaunt. More mobility or whatever.
