How to make SM more fun to play without breaking the balance

Rise the value of Vanguard, Outrider, Spearhead, and maybe even Supreme and Patrol detachments by one CP.

SM models cost a lot and HQ are pretty much costly glass cannons that die the turn after they get into cc against any capable CC unit or model. Hell you can lose 180/200 pts to a single lascannon or melta shot.

Overral, you simply don't have enough models on the board. Even more so if you dare to play without a bataillon (and I'm not even talking about the AM CP farm soup).

The gameplay get even worse if your aura reroll is gone. You don't have any cp to diversify your stratagy. Your units are gonna do pretty much the same thing, turn after turn, with little excitement beside the random aspect of the dices themselves.

Rising the value of these detachments wouldn't change a thing in the competitive scene, would make SM more enjoyable to play in general and would allow players to try different lists.

Edit: fixed title, by popular demand. English ain't my main language.

In terms of Vanilla Marines CP dont tend to matter much when almost all the stratagems are either very restrictive or not very rewarding and that to me is the great flaw in the codex, that it doesnt have a good set of chapter tactics or stratagems to make the whole codex engaging as a player or particularly rewarding. I sincerely dont think the normal marine stat line is that much of a hindrance towards balance and BA kind of prove that you can have those stats AND have a good codex that can compete and thats because they have a set of special rules and stratagems that revolve around a central idea and offer options and buffs to make that idea work. In comparison the Vanilla codex feels like it lacks direction or emphasis in certain areas.
