"When compared to empire-shattering events such as the traumatic and violent birth of the Cicatrix Maledictum, the Blackness that followed, the Indomitus Crusade launched by Primarch Guilliman himself, and the Plague Wars, the uprising on Asylus in the far reaches of Ultima Segmentum may seem like an inconsequential affair to most. Whoever holds such beliefs is an irredeemable fool. A planet that falls prey to internal strife and conflict is dire enough; a planet that falls into the clutches of a xenos-worshipping cult is far worse and the portent of a doom more terrifying than a fool's darkest nightmares.

Failure to contain this cult could trigger a chain of events that could lead to the utter devastation of countless Imperial planets, systems, and even whole sectors. The fate of the whole Segmentum hangs in the balance and only the brave souls of the Emperor's Imperial Guard have any chance to stop this revolt before it is too late..."

- Xanthia Ephese, Ordo Xenos

Welcome to my project log for the Asylurian Insurrection, a narrative campaign that I shall be creating and playing with friend and (unfortunately) inactive member @khalic. This campaign will see his brave Imperial Guardsmen pitted against a Genestealer Cult on the Imperial World of Asylus (Baldur Sector, north-eastern Ultima Segmentum). I'll try and convince him to get his backside back onto the B&C so he can document his side of the campaign. In the meantime here's my side of the campaign.

We are starting off with some games of Kill Team while we further develop the fluff behind our forces. A basic outline has been created but we would like to delve further into the lore and flesh out our forces properly while we go through our games. For the moment only the first one has been planned but there shall be many more to come.

Now, before I go any further, here is my starting Kill Team (we're not using Command Rosters yet (?)):

Hidden Content
Leader:
  • Yhorick Gorl (Neophyte Leader) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges, Specialist: Leader

Specialists:

  • Eldric Kheiser (Metamorph Leader) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, metamorph talon, rending claw, Specialist: Comms
  • Jacobiah Vreel (Aberrant) w/ power hammer, Specialist: Zealot
  • Skir Varnway (Acolyte Fighter) w/ blasting charges, demolition charge, hand flamer, Specialist: Demolitions

Non-specialists:

  • Acolyte Hybrid Fire Team
    • Isaak Onderghast (Acolyte Hybrid) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, cult icon, cultist knife, rending claw
    • Steen Xyben (Acolyte Hybrid) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, cultist knife, rending claw
  • Neophyte Hybrid Fire Team
    • Vyrion Helm (Neophyte Gunner) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, flamer
    • Davon Thrace (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges
    • Hollan Gorl (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges, cult icon
    • Hollun Stennvar (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges
    • Judh Gorl (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges

I originally had a pair of Purestrain Genestealers in the Kill Team I tested last week but I thought that 1) having Genestealers in my team from the start didn't really mesh with the fluff progression I had in mind and 2) would make it tougher for my opponent who hasn't played a single game of KT yet and doesn't play much 40k in general. We'll see how it goes!

And to reward people who got all the way down to the end, here's a WIP picture of my current leader, Yhorick Gorl (centre), with Davon Thrace (left) and Hollun Stennvar (right):

Thank you for having a look.

Good idea, I'll be following this :)

Starting off with Kill Team and escalating into bigger and bigger 40k games are you? I'm just starting cults myself and a friend is getting back into the Hobby with Primaris Marines so doing something like this ourselves would be good fun.

I really like Gorl. Not sure what it is about him, as far as I can tell it is just a simple arm swap from the Cadian Command Squad, but there is a lot of character in that model - it has a really sinister and brutal look to it. Great stuff!

Cheers, Apostle! I'm glad you like him. I'm very happy with him as well; the head in particular gives him a kind of Darth Vader vibe which adds to the sinister look. That and out of the whole team, he's the most human and the most integrated into the wider "normal" society (he served in the local PDF hence why he has a lasgun and proper shoulder pads unlike the rest of them), and because of that most likely the biggest threat as he can blend into most crowds!

For some reason, I'd never considered just straight up putting Cadian arms onto the Neophyte bodies. Looks pretty good!

Dragonlover

Cheers, mate. Always happy to try and share "new" stuff when I kitbash.

Looking good

Good background too.

Cheers, Kier! :tu:

Good idea, I'll be following this :smile.:

Thank you, NB!

Yes, that's the plan. In the long term, if/when the cult grows large enough to attain critical mass and thus attract the attention of a Hive Fleet Jormungandr splinter, we might even get to play an Apocalypse game where the cultists rise up en masse, the Tyranid fleets rains down spores, and the hidden Raveners/Mawlocs/Trygons rise up from the depths and have their long-awaited snack!

Anyway, I can only encourage you to do something similar with your mate. We're really enjoying it so far and I have little doubt that you two will, too. :)

After looking at my list again I noticed that I had a Cult Icon as a piece of equipment given to Isaak Onderghast and I was looking to add a Neophyte Acolyte with a second Cult Icon for some redundancy... but then realised that having icons that brazenly proclaim their heretical xenos-faith didn't fit with the first scenario @khalic and I have decided to play (a sabotage run gone awry on the way back to their lair). Similarly Jacobiah Vreel, the Aberrant, sticks out a little too much too. With that in mind, I've had to rejig my list again:

Hidden Content
Leader:
  • Yhorick Gorl (Neophyte Leader) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges, Specialist: Leader

Specialists:

  • Eldric Kheiser (Metamorph Leader) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, metamorph talon, rending claw, Specialist: Comms
  • Rauss Svodnor (Acolyte Fighter) w/ autopistol, heavy rock drill, Specialist: Combat
  • Skir Varnway (Acolyte Fighter) w/ blasting charges, demolition charge, hand flamer, Specialist: Demolitions

Non-specialists:

  • Acolyte Hybrid Fire Team
    • Nasser Arnalt (Acolyte Hybrid) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, cultist knife, rending claw
    • Seimon Druchmann (Acolyte Hybrid) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, cultist knife, rending claw
    • Steen Xyben (Acolyte Hybrid) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, cultist knife, rending claw
  • Neophyte Hybrid Fire Team
    • Crasker Barchus (Neophyte Gunner) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, flamer
    • Vyrion Helm (Neophyte Gunner) w/ autopistol, blasting charges, flamer
    • Davon Thrace (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges
    • Hollan Gorl (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges
    • Hollun Stennvar (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges
    • Judh Gorl (Neophyte Hybrid) w/ autogun, autopistol, blasting charges

I'll be rushing to get all these models assembled before our game tomorrow afternoon but I might have to borrow a few stand-ins if I end up not having enough time... Anyway as long as narrative logic is maintained, it's all that matters for me in this campaign. :tu:

Thank you for having a look.

I like that you are actually giving thought as to how your cult operates when list building. Four Armed Emperor bless.

Thank you, Azekai! This is a narrative campaign after all, so I will do whatever the Four-Armed Emperor narrative asks of me! :D

Your models and fluff are really inspirational ^^.

Cheers, MotC. :)

I was bored and frustrated. This is the result:

Feels good and gives me extra data cards to play around with for my Kill Team members.

Thank you for having a look. :tu:

Ha! I quite like that graffiti, might have to do that for my Orks (the card in the Kill team box are so much better than the ones you buy separately... You can't write on them in pencil which makes life difficult, an odd choice...)

Good on you for saving the Icons until later in the campaign. Kill Team is great for making your team "weaker" for a better story. My Orks have a Loota for whom the obvious choice is the Heavy specialism. I've made him a Sniper though. I love the idea of him carefully lining up the perfect head shot, then yelling Waaaagh and going full Auto. His name is Grotkrumpa "Barn Door" Gratz (all my specialists have suitable nick names), since hitting a Barn Door would actually be considered a good shot for an Ork you see! His mates gloat he can hit a Barn Door at 100 paces, nearly every time (think Bryan Fantana's Sex Panther).

Pictures of your first few games please!
