Kill Teams & Kill Zones of the Odothese Sector; Update 26Mar

Thanks Bjorn Firewalker! :)

I still need to varnish those Avenging Eagles Marines so I can game with them, two things stopping that are 1) awaiting pay day so I can go get some matt varnish spray, and 2) the typically grim British weather.

While I've been waiting for that I've been chipping away at other things. Firstly getting some terrain pieces ready for painting. The thing with those Mantic Battlezones sets is, while they make some useful pieces, there are loads of gaps where connectors are meant to go. So I spent some time cutting plasticard rod and spare connectors to sort that out:

Just need the weather to improve so I can get them painted!

I've also been chipping away at that Librarian conversion. I've forgotten how much I dislike working with green stuff! Several attempts with the push molds, managed to get a few Librarian symbols I could work with. I just need to add a finishing touch (to represent his psychic powers manifesting), then he's done.

As well as him, as fluff-wise the Marines I've been painting are part of a campaign where the Legion of Taurus are the opposing force, I wanted to make a Sorceror to command their Kill Team. Ironically, I did consider making a Sorceror for that army back when I started work on it over 10 years ago, but in the end didn't get round to it..!

The body is the current Finecast Sorceror, which I picked up incomplete and in a bit of a state off eBay. The head is a Forgeworld Berzerker Terminator head, and the hand is from one of the Dark Vengeance Cultist champs. I need to finish filling out the right side so I can put his other arm on. Then add some flame effects in his left hand, and he's done! (Oh, the random Marine arm that's coming out of his base will be partially buried in rocks.)

I'll carry on with these, then hopefully get some good ebough weather to start priming/varnishing models.

Oh, wait, that's not all I've been working on...

Something a bit Malevolent is coming to this project..! ;) :D

I like the green stuff Daemon skulls on your Librarian. Is he from the Exorcists Chapter?

Thanks Bjorn Firewalker - you've made me realise though that I've put the shoulder pads on completely the wrong way round :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:   I just hope I can get them back off now to correct them :unsure.: :ermm:

Well, thankfully I was able to get the shoulder pads off without damaging the model; here's the (yet to be named) Librarian, he's 98% done (just some filling in where I stuck the press molded symbols on him).

I've also progressed with the Chaos Sorceror, Tuul'rath the Warped, the only thing left is his left hand; I'm not sure if I'm going to sculpt it to look more like a normal Astartes armoured hand, or have him manifesting some psychic power. If I do the latter, I'm not sure what it'll be as I've got the Librarian manifesting flames.

I used the bare Marauder arm because 1) I really like the sword and didn't fancy cutting it about, and 2) I thought it would give him a distinctive look; slightly feral for a (fallen) Astartes. As I'm apparently too much of a freak for details, I even added the ports where his armour interfaces with the Black Carapace..!

Finally, I made a start on painting those terrain pieces - sadly I ran out of primer so could only do one. After priming, then doing a layer of red spray, then hairspray and salt, and a final spray of dark grey then light grey to highlight, I added rust coloured pigment. I think I went too far with this; I also think there's something missing with this paint scheme, but I can't put my finger on it.

This weekend I'll get so more spray primer, and carry on with the rest of these terrain pieces. I may also start painting some yellow & black, and pretty Malevolent Astartes... ;)

Ah! The Legion of Taurus is amazing! I still remembering seeing it for the first time like it was yesterday! It's so exciting to see you back! And I'm really digging the Eagles and their color scheme. They're actually making me look at that stack of minis I got that I never assembled lol

Thank you all for your kind words! :) @Kol Saresk the Legion of Taurus will be back, in this thread and others..! ;)

So what have I been up to? I've put the first base coat (red) on the rest of the buildings, but I'm waiting for the weather to pick up so I can do the hair spray/salt part of the process, then get the next layer of colour (two shades of grey).

Other than that, I've started painting another Marine Kill Team - I mentioned before Christmas that I was going to do some Imperial Fists for a Kill Team to sell, well I change my mind, and have decided to paint some Marines Malevolent :D This is a Chapter I've fancied painting some minis from for several years now; I even put in the background of the Legion of Taurus that they may have persuaded a handful of Marines Malevolent to join them. I also added another nugget of MM related background for the Xergev campaign we played at my gaming club at the time - although there weren't any MM players, I wrote a piece that indicated a Kill Team of Marines Malevolent, lead by Chaplian Colstein, were part of the Imperial Forces taking part in the hunt for the Legion of Taurus.

So here's the team - I've gone for the Roster approach, so I can mix and match Specialists and gunners.

I've started painting the first half of these - I've done the black chests, and am working on the metallic parts. Getting these out of the way as I figured it'll be easier to touch up Yellow over black or metal, rather than the other way round..! :whistling:

As well as this, I've been putting together miniatures for future teams. After the Xergev theme & terrain, the next one will be a version of an Urban setting, with Militarum versus Death Guard (think: plenty o' zombies :D). For the Militarum Kill Team, it'll include a few Scions. As the bulk of the team will be based on Cadian minis, I plan to convert the Scions slightly so they don't look to far removed from the rest of the team.

With that in mind I've had a go at converting a Scion. I'm aware that the respirator is a bit off to one side, but I think it's an okay first attempt:

I was concerned that the head sits too low down, giving the miniature a 'hunched' appearance, but it looks okay next to a 'regular' Cadian styled Guardsman:

So if the weather is up to is next weekend, I'll get on with the buildings, but in the meantime I'll carry on with these Marines Malevolent. Thanks for looking!

So here's where 2 and a bit weeks of painting has got me with these Marines Malevolent:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Kill%20Team%20Project/2019-03-26%2020.34.15_zps9t67syqs.jpg

So yellow done, shaded and highlighted - moving on to some chipping. You may recall Hyaenidae's superbly weathered Marines Malevolent (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/214217-glory-and-hate-a-marines-malevolent-project/page-10), I'm not going to have these as battle scarred as those; I'm going for something a bit more sparing that will hopefully still stand out. Using an old make up applicator my wife gave me, I've dabbed on some Scorched Brown, and stippled Leadbelcher over it.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Kill%20Team%20Project/2019-03-26%2020.34.58_zpsywdoyttp.jpg

I've done 1 and 1/2 of the 5 Marines, I'll finish the chipping then move on to decals and lenses. My plan is to do the Chapter insignia and bases in a batch when all 10 are painted to the same stage.

More pics soon, thanks for looking! :)
