Is Anyone Playing ITC/GT's with Deathwatch?

I'm curious if anyone is actively playing competitive with their Deathwatch.

The reason I ask is I have been using my Death Guard, but not Deathwatch. I've been a little gun shy with Deathwatch because I don't really ally very much. (A personal decision).

ITC isn't the be all/end all but they do have a lot more data to comb through. I'm sure most of you know they recently had someone compile a bunch of data based on the output of a lot of 8th edition GT's (ITC events exclusively... well all but one was ITC).

Space Marines in general rank very poorly. Knights, Ynarri, DE, etc rank very well. The closer a marine player is to the actual Codex Astartes, the worse they appear, and stuff like Blood Angels show marginally better but keep in mind that's cherry picking smash captains and mixing in Knights.

At the end of the day it appears marines are in a very bad spot, and lots of 'marine' armies are showing better by not taking marines: IE: the best Thousand Sons armies have zero marine type units.

Overall Deathwatch is brutally low, and has poor numbers to show for it. In most cases I imagine DW tournament players will be allying, perhaps with Knights, or some serious FW units.

But again ITC isn't the only tournament type in the game so I'm curious how others are faring?

The Gallant is an interesting choice... it makes sense.

I would think the one big gap is the Psychic phase. A Magnus/Mort  or Thousand Sons could be a difficult match up.

I started my Knight allies playing purely shooty and I admit I didn't originally see the value of the Gallant but it seems to be making some waves and DW seem well suited to it as well.

I run 3 librarians consistently, and they get work done. Sure, against a psychic powerhouse it'll be a rough matchup, but I've managed to get multiple powers off vs eldar and bugs so its not that problematic.

The Gallant does the one thing Deathwatch don't do well: melee something to death REAL GOOD!

Yea exactly. The Gallant fills that gap nicely. When the Knight Codex first dropped I was running a detachment of two Warglaives (which I think are underrated a bit) and a Helverin. The good news was it helped split fire with opponents, and still had some cc punch... better than Dreadnoughts because if the sweep attack...and the Melta is actually really good. I know this isn’t popular because of the Butcher Cannon Leviathan, but it did pretty good for me, but perhaps too expensive for very competitive play.

I am playing Deathwatch as a battalion along with a Blood Angels battalion and Custodes Vanguard detachment. There are very few pure builds that are top tier - Soup is the name of the game if you’re playing competively. For me the Deathwatch are a strong anchor for my army.
