Alternatives to black guns for red Marines?

Building a Chapter that uses a similar red to Blood Angels, and I’ve noticed that pretty much any red Chapter is depicted with black casings for their weapons.

 

Has anyone used other colors? Not sure how bare metal would look, or maybe even grey, but was curious if anyone has seen or tried other options.

TBH it really depends on what kind of red you are using.  You could go with a bone colored casing, as well as yellow, or blue, depending on if you were going with a warm or cold red, and whether or not you want to compliment or contrast. I hope that helps.

I've started painting mine Celestra Grey. And I put them on snow bases. I like how it looks.

I always felt like an odd man out to paint my guns the same as the armor. It just doesn't make sense to me for them to be different.

I went with Ulthuan Grey for my Thousand Sons. Looked quite nice.

I wanted the weapons on my infantry and vehicle to stand out, so I picked them out with a contrasting colour. Probably not to everyone' taste, but here we go...

I generally paint the entire weapon in Ironbreaker with a heavy wash of nuln oil, then highlight edges with whatever silver comes to hand.
