Starstriders & Gellerpox infected: How to handle deaths?

Hey guys,

So I'm a little confused with the elucidian starstriders and gellerpox infected how deaths for members are supposed to work with them being named. One of the workers at my local GW reckons that you could just put an 'a' or 'b' or something on new ones and basically hired them again like henchmen, I presume that will usually be the case but it seems odd narratively really. Unless you do something like 'miraculously survived but their wounds made them less good hence no xp anymore'.

Can't see anywhere in the book saying anything about it, only reason I'm confused really is due to the fact they're named as opposed to being something like 'voidsmaster' or 'death cult executioner'. I think I'll probably do a case of giving new names for the replacements but it does seem a bit odd for a game that supposed to be designed for the narrative and has permadeath.

Regardless I do love the models so shall have fun with them. How do you lot reckon you'll deal with the deaths of the named ones like Knosso Prond?

Well, I've read stories about English nobility who couldn't be bothered remembering their servants names, so would expect their manservant to respond to "Robert" (or whatever the name was of that noble's first manservant) regardless of what the person's name actually was.

As well, in 40K one could well have a situation where one takes a name (in addition to, or instead of a title) when one takes a position.  So, kind of how a pope always takes on a new name when he becomes pope, except rather than choosing one, all the popes take the same name.

So, basically, all head assassin of this rogue trader charter is always names Alice (or whatever - I haven't looked at the game yet), so when one Alice dies, another "Alice" takes her place.

Does make it hard to keep one Alice seperate from the next, but that may be part of the point - if one is now Alice the Head Assassin, one has to try to live up to deeds of all previous Alices, as you are also Alice and their deeds are yours, metaphorically speaking.

The closest comparison that comes to mind are super-heroes such as green lantern, where several persons have been that hero - its more of an identify than a title.

It seems to be me more like GW just simply haven't really thought that through or offered any guidance. The best thing to do would just be to run the same profile but a new name for fluff purposes to show that Elucia has recruited or that Gellerpox has brought forth further monstrosities from in the ship

The simplest solutions are the best ones.

At least for the Commander we by now know how they handle "deaths" in campaigns. I wouldn't be surprised if it works the same way for other named characters.

From the videos I watched on Youtube you can have a Commander and Leader - the Commander can't "die" either apparently you can take them out of action like any other unit but they can come back in another game. Unless those are just the rules unique to the Commanders in the Rogue Trader expansion!

Correct, they also have their own Casualty chart and the worst result is they start the next mission with a flesh wound and -1 M/A/Ld/W/S.
