Best way to kit out a reaver in a venator light maniple

Recommended Posts

I’m just wondering what everyone’s thoughts and ideas about the best loadout for a reaver in a venator maniple?

I’m thinking carapace turbo laser and twin volcano cannons to take advantage of the free shots every time a titans voids go down. And simply using the warhounds to take down enemy voids. Kinda makes it a one trick pony though, but with a venator you should have points left over for at least another support reaver at worst, so you could have that backing it up with an apoc and Gatling blaster for void stripping duties if the warhounds go down.

What’s everyone’s thoughts?

The Reaver in a Venator Maniple will be able to shoot out of turn with one weapon if a Warhound from the same maniple manages to bring down the shields of an opposing Titan.

To me that means that a Reaver in this context only really needs one high impact weapon to use if the above situation arises. There is no reason to max-out every single weapon to that cause. I don’t have the weapons’ rules handy right now, but the melta sounds like a good option for that as does a volcano. I’d keep the Apocalypse Launcher to also weaken enemy shields, allowing for the Warhounds to take the final straw (thus activating the Venator’s special rule) and a close combat weapon, especially the chainblade when it comes out, for self-defence (and rule of cool).

That could work. Maybe swap the apoc for a turbo laser though? It only strains your reactor if you use its shieldbane ability, and if your targets have their shields already drained you don’t need to use it!

Good shout. I didn't realise that about Turbo Laser destructors.

This could crate some funny shenanigans if you charge with said reaver against a titan with shields still active. You could potentially get a charge, multiple melta shots, and regular shooting phase in one turn which would be deadly. Or you could take the carapace turbo laser, charge the reaver in while you warhounds are hitting the opponents other titans, that way you could be in CC with one titan while shooting at others using that 360* arc
