Children of the Throne

So while this project is largely to keep my eyes from going blind from painting yellow all the time, I'm getting rather excited for my little cultists (probably for similar reasons as my fondness for the Sisters: nutters tend to make for fun armies to play). And since I like the cult names that sound like they could be some kind of Ministorium sect, dubbing these guys the Children of the Throne just seemed fitting. Potato quality pictures ahead, but I am looking at upgrading to something better in the future (when I stop spending all my money on minis).

To kick things off we have the first HQ for the army, fresh from a Tooth and Claw box, the Abominant:

And I admit the color choice for his overalls makes it feel like he needs a banjo and to live in a swamp somewhere but it's the color I'm using for the coverall parts of the rest of the army (and the Guard uniforms when I get around to doing those guys for things) so it is what it is I guess.

About 5 hours of works and I didn't even count all the paint colors used, but my Iconward is done:

All in all I'm pretty happy with how he came out, but sadly I am finding more and more that my poor camera just isn't cutting mustard these days.

Well one hurdle at a time I guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

I spent part of last week being sick and asleep instead of painting, but thanks to my health returning and my local FLGS scooping up a Broodcoven box my motivation has returned! And with it here is the WIP for my Patriach after around 3 hours of painting (counting wash drying times):

And either my blue is too subtle or trying to get my potato camera to get good depth on the colors is proving difficult.

Looks like a fine start Fulkes - I like the Iconward.

The pics are a tad grainy. I honestly have not used my digital camera in years, find a simple phone cam (Iphone/Samsung) usually works perfectly well.

Hope to see more

Thanks! I'm currently working on the Patriarch while alternating back and forth with a unit of Abberants while the washes dry. The big guy is almost done though, he just needs his eyes dotted in and some basing.

As for the pictures, I gave up my smartphone a couple years ago when the battery stopped charging properly (and because it's physically attacked to the phone's motherboard I can't just replace it unless I want to take up soldering) and moved onto a cheaper flip phone because I didn't want to deal with the ~$100USD/month bill I had through Verizon anymore. Now I pay $100 a year for my phone but it only takes low quality pictures for ants if I try using it for pictures.

I think the Patriarch WIP shots came out better due to switching my image editing program from Paint to iFranview (which can sharpen a rescale so it looks nicer), but I'm probably going to have some grain until I drop some money on a nicer camera come tax time next year. I'm heavily considering getting a light box to take pictures with though, so that might help a bit in the meantime.
