The Macharian Cross: A Hypothetical Transfer

Hello all,

I'm not entirely sure where post this as this isn't addressing any current rules or anything. So, if is a breach in forum etiquette, (meaning there would be a better, more suitable place to post this) I do apologize.

That being said, do you all remember the rules for the Macharian Cross? If you said no, I wouldn't be surprised. I certainly didn't; that is until I perused the 3rd ed. Imperial Guard codex. It's an item you can give to any officer, allowing you to redeploy a single infantry unit.

You can redeploy said unit, which is within 6" of an officer equipped, up to 12" away with the caveat that you must redeploy within the restrictions of the mission rules. Only certain infantry units can be redeployed with the effect of this item. It's fairly expensive. Yada yada, blah, blah, blah.

NOW. Suppose this idea were transferred somehow to 8th edition guard? How would/should/could it be enacted in this hypothetical universe in a flavorful way?

For my own suggestion: I would propose an Heirloom of Conquest for, er, the newly invented, uh... Man-schnerpian regiment. (Had to sit there and think for a bit.) The Man-Schnerps, or.. whatever, could redeploy, say, D3 regiment infantry units anywhere on the battle field, following, of course, the mission rules for deployment.

Maybe this would be over-powered or too cheesy? But I kinda like it.

"Hey remember when you thought you were in charge range when you setup your forces? Welp. Not no more, j'ain't!"

But seriously, maybe there is something I'm overlooking. Like a glaring exploit that would be swiftly nerf-hammered into the ground. Anyway, what would you do with the Macharian Cross 't'were-it-wer added to 8th ed.? Lemme know.

Cheers,

I don't think it's such a big deal, a single unit in an army with lots won't make a big difference. A limit of 6" means it's probably easy to tell what unit you want to move, and 12" isn't exactly a Creed level of genius  A revamped version would have to be as you propose - more than one unit and no limit on position further than the deployment zone.

Such things used to exist, but I think they're fallen away in 8th from what I can think of? It'd be good to reposition some units to react to your opponent's deployment, but given Guard will almost certainly have more placements to make this wouldn't be that radical. So unless it could be tweaked to be a bit better it'd probably be a useful Relic but perhaps middle tier and situational?
