PART I: AFTER VILAMUS

"We weren't at Vilamus when it fell. Hell, most of the Chapter wasn't.

But it would have been better to die there. At least it would be a quick death. "

-Honor Lieutenant Lito Navas

In truth, when I joined the retinue of Inquisitor Luisa du Droge, I hadn't expected my father to be as happy as he had been. He had smiled, clamped me upon the arm and told me he'd never been prouder. I was shocked. The old man had long planned for me to succeed him in the family business, and while I did intend on returning, there were no guarantees. What I had expected to be conversation of disappointment become one of pride and encouragement. I left that meeting in command of Vexilarius, a great frigate, once fourth rated by the Imperial Navy. Boasting over 60 guns and a prow mounted mounted plasma weapon, it was a enormous gift. But that wasn't the biggest surprise.

When I arrived on the bridge, I was met by a giant in Steel and Cerulean. His face, a weathered crag of scar tissue and stoicism, bore an expression of duty and resolve that stirred me to my core. Lito Navas, Honor Lieutenant of the Marines Errant, alongside tactical squad Galopal had been requested to join me as well.

Navas smiled, nodding to me as I settled into the command chair, "Augostin, it pleases me to see you sitting in that chair. You have long told me that one day you would sail the stars, and I am happy to embark upon this journey with you. As long as I breath, my men and I will be at your command." I knew, of course, that he used the term command loosely. Navas was a veteran of close to 150 years, having served in both the Corinth Crusade and during the Badab wars. I had known him since I was a child, so his support was immense. Had I known that this was more than just honor for him, that he and his men accompanied me for a chance at revenge, I cannot say I would have accepted his services. But for now, I was thrilled to have Astartes aboard my vessel.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading/looking! This the start of my truscale astartes/ inq 28 modelling long, and I think I have some pretty good stuff cooked up. The truscale marines are based off of Apologist's conversions, though mine are perhaps not quite as extensive! The inq28 stuff is what I'm most excited about so stay tuned for that!

Sergeant Lejer. Yes, the newest member of the retinue after me. We met during the first assignment Du Droj took after meeting me. A cult had sprung up on Makaman and we had answered the call to help. I was a bit put out, as it was my plan to catch the ringleaders unaware, and Lejer had ended up costing me the life of one of my agents in doing so. Nonetheless, he was a valuable addition to the team and would certainly save my life on more than one occasion.

It’s a bad day when the cultist you shot keeps walking with a fist sized hole in him.

It’s also a bad day when the Emperor’s Inquisition calls you in for questioning.

I was having a very bad day.

I was sat down in our precinct’s holding cell, faced by, frankly, two people I fully felt were too young to be on the opposite side of the table. One was a woman, beautiful, though her face was marred by a bionic with scarring to match, her blonde hair done up similarly to many of the gangers I traded shots with. She was…athletic, and the form fitting body suit she wore did little to hide that, though any attraction I had to her was tempered with fear due the sigil at her waist.
Her partner was shorter, dark hair and five o’ clock shadow coloring his face. He had a faint smile, and looked more amused at the proceedings than anything.
The woman leaned forward, scowling. “Do you have any idea why you’re here officer Lejer?” I shrugged, scratching at the puckered scar on my cheek.

“Not really. Figured you wanted to see what all the hype was about.” The woman stared at me, her lips pursed in annoyance. The man smiled again.

“Josep Lejer. 31 Terran Years of age. Five year stint in the Makaman 8th, decorated for valor. Joined the Arbites at 24, been working Hive Block 42 ever since. Single.” I snorted at that last bit. “Sorry pal, but you’re not my type.” That got a solid laugh out of the man, who leaned back as if to say his part was done. The woman sighed.

“You’re here Sergeant, because you and your team fugged up a very carefully organized sting my retinue has spent the last month cultivating. Not only that, but somehow, our target was prepared and killed four of the Arbites assigned to your team. Is that correct?”

My face soured at the implication, “I suppose it is. However we had NO idea the inquisition-“

The woman sighed again, “Yes, I should hope you were not aware that my people were operating in your block, that rather defeats the purpose of laying low.”

I leaned back in my chair and crossed my arms, “Ma’am, I apologize for fugging up your precious raid, but I didn’t have much choice. That group was a bad deal, and we put a stop to them. So if that’s what this is about, I’d like to leave.”

She looked at me, the cool green of her false eye glinting in the dim room. “Stopped them Sergeant? Oh no, you haven’t stopped anything…in fact, things will likely escalate unless the Inquisition steps in.”

My stomach dropped out, and I thought back to the macabre scene that had led me to the lair of the cult. “Then we have to do something!”
The two looked at me, the man nodding as if to say “I told you so”, while the woman simply stared.

“Indeed Sergeant. Welcome to the Inquisition.”

Like I said: I was having a really bad day.

+++Arbites Sergeant Josep 'Joe' Lejer+++

Bonus points to anyone who gets this reference!

@ BCK Thanks man! Hopefully I can actually stick with this one. I've found doing smaller killteams is more conducive to my life right now.

@ Noctus Appreciate it! The LT is probably the least involved conversion, but the primaris have no real armor decoration so I may use some termiantor parts in the future.

"It has become appallingly clear that our Technology has surpassed our Humanity."

-Ge'off GuoldBlim

"Gamma Rho? Yes, he was the Mechanicus representative that accompanied our party. It, because ascribing gender to such a being is impossible, was an oddity. Gamma Rho was a true servant of the Opus Mechanicus, and their deft manipulations of technology, Imperial and ...other were often the difference between life and death many times. Gamma Rho was not a friendly creature, nor were they particularly kind, but they could often be found interacting with the various cats that seemed to be a constant presence aboard our vessel. Were it not for their steadfast desire to maximizing efficiency, it is doubtful we survive."

I am not ashamed to admit I screamed when the hovering monstrosity turned it's gave upon me. A bleached white skull leered at me, one lens dilating as if taking me in. It was like a monster from a nightmare, all robes, wires and bone hovering before me. It floated past me to access the control port next to me, buzzing what sounded like an angry cant of binaric code. Du Droge had simply laughed, and in a tone that a condescending mother would take, admonished the Priest, "Be nice to the Rogue Trader. If you're not careful he'll have you dismantled for parts."

Another spurt of binaric answered this, followed by a monotone voice from a recessed speaker.

+++ Apologies. This vessel is not operating at 100% efficiency. Permission to modify plasma output to bring levels up to satisfactory parameters?+++

I nodded slowly, adjusting my collar in an attempt to disguise my unease with the Priest of Mars. "Of course Magos, do what you need to." Vexilarius of course had it's own Mechanicus priests, but they were not nearly so augmented as Gamma Rho.

+++Compliance. I note elevated heart rates and fear pheromones. Be calm sir. I am here only to help. Your vessel is unique, and your allownace of my studies will be remembered.+++

Very nice project you've got going on here! Great narrative and awesome minis! The Marine Errant and creepy priest of Mars are excellent. But I am really digging Lejer and his sweet lasgun he has on his back!

Anyways, looking forward to this project and fluff developing!

Thanks Hushrong! The lasgun was actually supposed to be shotgun if you can believe that.
