Hey B&C. I’m excited to announce the public release of Tactical Strike Plus (TS+), a set of rules that let you recreate the gritty minor engagements and special operations of the Horus Heresy. I wanted to do it on this forum before it goes anywhere else :smile.:

Tactical Strike Plus combines Tactical Strike with the Victory is Vengeance campaign system, expanding upon the rules and making modifications that emphasize balance. This project is the culmination of several years of development and playtesting from hobbyists around the world. We designed Tactical Strike Plus to be a new way to play small-scale games that is fun for both experienced gamers and those new to the hobby. There is depth however you play- form teams, scrounge for resources, maintain equipment, and grow your forces as part of a campaign, pit odd numbers against each other in brutal free-for-alls, or go head-to-head against a friend using one of six standard missions. Regardless of how you like to play, our goal is to expand your enjoyment of the Horus Heresy.

You can visit our dedicated website to download the rules, leave feedback about the system, share your Strike Force, or drop us a line. Word of mouth is how this project started, so please share this with others in your community who may be interested. Our only hope is that this supplement is enjoyable and that it inspires this community to continue playing, being inspired by, and being part of the Horus Heresy.

For those who don’t know much about Tactical Stirke, here’s a short FAQ:

Q: What books do I need in order to play Tactical Strike Plus?

Tactical Strike Plus is a supplement based on The Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness rulebook. In order to play, you will need a copy of these rules and those for your armies.

Q: Which army lists are supported by Tactical Strike Plus?

Tactical Strike Plus supports factions from the Legiones Astartes, Crusade Imperialis, and Taghmata Ominissia army lists.

Q: What makes Tactical Strike Plus different from standard games?

Games usually last 30-45min. Unlike the base game, you challenge opponents before building your Strike Force. This means you can adjust your Rank & File depending on your Mission and who you are playing. Command Points make games more dynamic and can be used at any time to change the flow of the game. This makes outcomes less predictable as enemies can spend points to mitigate actions that didn’t go their way. A large part of the metagame is making opponents spend Command Points while generating your own. There's also an optional resource management and character progression system.

Q: What the standard sized army?

A typical Strike Force consists of 1 hero, up to 2 optional leaders, and between 10-25 other models. Tanks, dreadnoughts, monstrous creatures, and artillery are restricted to one model per Strike Force. Because Rank & File are picked before missions, it is possible for every model in a Strike Force besides the Hero and Leaders to change between missions.

Q: 8th edition when?

Next month… haha just kidding, never.

Very impressive ... I remember seeing those army photos and a little write up about your event a while ago ... maybe it was on facebook.

Definitely hoping to try this out.  Thanks for all the effort ... that's why I have no fear of what would happen to HH if FW abandoned it

I love this, however in my quick browsing I noticed on page 13 you have two "Slayer" abilities, tried to submit this as feedback but as haven't played before didn't let me provide detailed feedback. You're pr9b5ably already aware but you never know.

But seriously, this looks awesome. I love the idea of smaller clashes.

Thank you for all your kind words. I hope that you get a chance to play and share pictures of your strike forces. Would love to include them in the gallery!

Cheers for the feedback. We 'patched' the rules and updated the page. 2.06 is now the current, fixed, version

Awesome rule set, and the PDF looks legit. Beautiful background pictures and well written! More ways to play HH is always good. Loving the campaign system in there too!  The points rebalancing is very welcome. I guess everyone wished FW would rebalance Breachers, Scouts and Destroyers to be more attractive...

Anybody have a chance to try it out over the weekend?

Will this be also compatible with fanprojects like the "brotherhood of the lost"?

Great question. Because TS+ is a game type (IE: a new way to play), it's 100% compatible with fan projects and community rules. I can't comment on the balance in other projects, but if they use the same core units from the HH Army Lists they should be pretty tight if run in games of TS+.

After a quick read, and a look over my legiones astartes book, I just have a question or remark.

I see that lead elements are limited to AV12 max. This rules-out the Contemptor dreadnoughts which are almost like a trademark of the heresy.

Furthermore, in your armies on parade, at least one army has a contemptor in it.

Is it too much unbalanced to have AV13 in tactical strike?

Good question and a keen eye! This player ran their contemptor as a box dread, since as you say they are not that popular in the heresy. During playtesting we found that AV13 was very difficult to deal with at this scale and even an AV12 legion dreadnaught is a scary proposition to face.

The points cost of contemptor dreadnaughts is also prohibiting since many games use less than 350 points for rank and file (you can't spend more than 50% on your points on a lead element). Feel free to add this exception to your groups rules, but ultimately our decision was made to favor balance.
