DS Monoliths and their tactical flexibility?

Hi,

I'm building up a small force of necron and for me necrons = monoliths. I don't see the army without their unique vehicle. I have read in places that they are really bad... Why? Is it the cost?

For me I would deepstrike mine - it gives me firepower where needed and also gives me tactical flexibility, with the possibility of relocating infantry to safety or attacking forward positions - I think this fact alone makes it worth it.

Your thoughts?

They cost almost as much as a Knight Gallant. They have less wounds and no invuln, so they die very easily. I've never had one survive long enough for the troops inside to get out, and my meta is far from top level.

If you aren't using it as a transport it's less of a liability but still a hugely ineffective unit.

Its just so ridiculously expensive. It used to be vad at 240. Now its a third of your army or more. All for a slightly better battle cannon and a few heavy bolters. Deep strike is nice, but limited to two turns. Using deepstrike means you can get a grand total of one unit through the gate. And all that with an amoubt of wounds similar to a knight - but without additional saves. In a meta that regularly has to deal with knights, who are, as mentioned, more survivable. Overall... theyre of very limited use. None outside of a deceiver slingshot.
