Wraithwing's Blackmanes - A Primaris WIP & Painting Blog

Hi Folks,

I'm back again with another painting log.

After swearing to not add any Primaris to my Space Wolves army (not because I don't like them, but more because I don't like the mismatch in size), I find myself starting a new Primaris Space Wolves project.

The plan is to start a new army, and try and keep it all Primaris, with the exception of Ragnar Blackmane himself, and some Wulfen (OK, and maybe a Stormwolf...). Having resisted doing a Blackmanes force for years, as they are quite common, I decided to make it easy on myself and use all the cool Blackmanes transfer and shoulder pads.

As a start, I've converted up a Primaris Ragnar Blackmane. Everyone has been talking about how Ragnar is a prime candidate for 'Primarisation' due to his young age, and I wholeheartedly agree. Here's where I've got so far:

Obviously, there's still quite a bit of green stuff work to do, and I want to add his distinctive Wolfs Head shoulder pad also. I will likely be using the top half of a dreadnought smoke launcher to do this. I'll also be adding some more bling to his torso, likely in the form of the chains and badges from the Wulfen kit. I also need to decide on how to base him. I'm tempted to build a base up for him from cork.

I've also gone ahead and put together my first 5 man Intercessor Pack:

I've gone with standard Bolt Rifles for these guys. Also tried to keep the wolfy wolfness to a minimum on these guys, as I think Mark X just looks stunning painted up in a clean Wolves scheme. Here's a few close ups of the Pack Leader:

Initially I thought the Primaris kit was quite static, but I'm really pleased with the dynamism you can achieve with the right posing.

As far as the army goes, I have another 5 Intercessors, 5 Reivers, a Redemptor Dreadnought, 3 Aggressors and enough spares to make a couple of packs of TH/SS Primaris Wulfen (using the monopose bodies).

I'm also toying with the idea of doing some 'Primaris' Blood Claws to accompany Ragnar and fit in with the theme of the army.

As always, C&C is appreciated!

Cheers,

WW

Wraithwing,

For a moment there I thought someone had taken photos of the DIY work sitting on my hobby table. Seriously, I've got miniatures blue-tac'ed together at the moment that are almost exactly the same bits/poses. It's scary.

If you've also got a Redemptor covered with Bjorn bits hiding there as well then we may be linked telepathically. ;)

Good luck with the painting, i'll be watching with interest. :smile.:

Stunning! I love seeing folks Primaris kitbashes - it reminds me of the days before 5th edition when there was very few Space Wolves bits and we all had to bash using codex kits.

(except now of course there are lots of wolf kits to combine these guys with)

Bit more done on Primaris Ragnar tonight. Mainly the green stuff, but also found him a nice chunk of ice to leap off!

I've got some filthy xenos vying for my attention at the moment, but I've keen to keep the ball rolling with this project.

Let me know what you think.

Not a massive amount of progress has happened on this project, but I did get round to priming Primaris Ragnar in The Fang, and I think it has really brought him together. Will make a start on painting him in earnest very soon:
