What would you like to see for Scions?

Evening all was just wondering what people would like to see added to the militarum tempestus Scions if games workshop ever decided to add a bit more meat to the bones of this tiny little force.

I was thinking maybe some sort of sentinel varient or possibly a heavy weapons team style option both of which could pretty easily be achieved with a upgrade sprue to use the existing kits maybe.

Welcome to the B&C :) A Sentinel would be good, matches their recon role but it'd need to be decent. Scions have weedy enough vehicles in the Taurox :P Perhaps a specialist gunship to support them too, though I'd settle for improvements to Valkyries (also: Vendettas)!

I don't think there's that much you can add within the "spec ops" theme, so options may be limited. In theory this would be best represented by rules but that's a different kettle of fish.

Like Warrior Fish says, it’s hard to think of stuff that’s fits with the special ops/highly mobile troops that scions are. However one thing I think that could fit and I would like to see would be a sniper/marksman unit, but one that was actually a threat to whatever it shoots at, not like most snipers in the game :)

As for vehicles, I’d be tempted to go classic SAS style jeeps with a heavy weapon, obviously made to look more suitable for 40k.

An artillery spotter.

Demo charges.

Vendetta rules upgrade.

Plastic Vulture gunship and Vendetta upgrade sprue.

Melta grenades for the grenade launcher with a bit more punch than Krak grenades.

Edit: Phase the Elysian drop trooper stuff into the Scion codex. Scion missile teams sound intriguing. The Elysian vehicles would fit right in with only minor changes.

I'm mostly echoing others here but I'd like the following:

  • An operative of some kind (or assassin rules that allow them to share detachments)
  • Gunship updates/upgrades (the vendetta especially)
  • "Light" heavy weapon specialists
  • Optional rules to field them as Inquisitorial Storm Troopers
  • Grenadier themed upgrades or options, not just having krak grenades

You'll no-doubt have seen the Sisters of Silence, but depending on your FW familiarity - have you seen the dual-pistols ones?

Scions, but a bit more action-packed and thrilling. (Though I also like their tooled-up carrying the kitchen sink feel too, so a bit more of both could be very neat.)

I could see something like that being a lot of fun. Less heavy armour, more svelte and sleek (and possibly still a bit baroque).

So the hotshot lasguns would be dropped to more exotic pistols, intriguing guns (e.g. webbers, grav pistols, needle weapons), maybe some cooler high-tech shields & combat weapons - that sort of stuff.

I've a vague memory that some of the big background-y books (13th Black Crusade, War for Armageddon, Codex: Eye of Terror) mentioned esoteric or fancy-sabotage/espionage elements of the Departmento Munitorum - if they were explored as part of the Tempestus Scions 'brand' (visually, if not strictly a part of the Scions themselves - the organisations might be a bit distinct, but very frequently in concert for combined-arms and spec-ops stuff).

Similarly, for a missile launcher (or other Guard-level 'exotic' weapons), getting in some of the fun old missiles could be need - rad, viral and flakk missiles, say.

Could be a lot of fun, especially with the direction many of the Rogue Trader-y models have taken. Fascinating, fun and useful, but also still without really treading on the toes of the Adeptus Mechanicus or Astartes.

High end, but fundamentally human for the setting. (Militarising and formalising a lot of the stuff in the Necromunda range would be cool. Tempestus Scions wielding hotshot lasgun 'autogun spears' like the new Cawdor gangers have! A sort of halfway between the Cawdors and the HH )

I actually like scions how they are for the most part.  I think if they need anything, a special character or another type of HQ could be cool.  Maybe having an "assault" squad with 12 inch range assault 2 hot shot carbines and melee weapons.  I think some kind of scion marksman squad could be cool, a full squad with some more powerful long las rifles to provide cover for the rest of the troops, kind of like the elysian sniper teams

I think that this could be combined with my "grenadier" style squad idea. Perhaps a squad equipped with krak grenades (and meltabombs on the sarge) and the ability to use them in melee. A carbine version of the hot-shot would be a sick addition too and maybe some kind of boarding shields.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'd like to see stormtroopers with the rifle AND the pistol/chainsword come back, 3rd ed guard book?

Gunships would be cool, give it 2 twin hot shot volley guns. Something like dark eldar rule of its assault if it's on a vehicle.

Snipers seem like a no brainer.

The obvious one would be a couple of special characters for them.

Some sort of light robot ( a bit like 'Big Dog'

but without the noise) for carrying kit and maybe being the base unit for a weapon support drone (being a good way for carrying a heavy weapon without movement penalty).

Definitely some sort of small flier for insertion/extraction and that has good fire support options (maybe with a 5 or 6 troop capacity).

Drop sentinels, sniper teams, BS 3+ valkyries. A heavy support option (does not need to be a tank). Inquisition rules. Cheaper cost to counter how much less useful deep strike is, cheaper taurox prime (its overcosted, especially the missile launcher). 24 inch range HS lasguns, seriously... what is the scope for?

A point drop would be nice too with the changes to reserves and deep strike

Also I dont think you should have to pay for HSLG or pistols

Unless their range is increased

I quite like having to pay for the HSLG as it means if you switch weapons you don't have to pay it (so a weapon swap is cheaper). It's definitely a gun worth paying a point for (if I could give my normal IG it at 5ppm I would put it on quite a few squads).
