The return of “the 8” for Farsight Enclaves

The real question is ... will GW get rid of the "1 Commander per Detachment" limitation in CA now? Otherwise we still wouldn't be able to use all of The Eight in Matched play considering there are multiple Commander with them.

no, look to the space wolves codex I think.

farsight enclaves will probably get the option to upgrade the counterpart models into the 8.

buy a riptide, farsight enclave upgrade to character

buy a broadside, farsight enclave upgrade to character

A Broadside with character keyword and other goodies would be sick lol

I expect it to be a bunch of named character Datasheets and if they don't get rid of the 1 Commander rule in this CA then they probably give us a special detachment with them all which explicitly ignores that rule... aka a formation lol

It would almost be like what a all HQ detachment would be like, where we don't get gimped by having to stick to ethereals or cadre fireblades (or just fireblades if enclave).

Some sort of "ultimate leadership" detachment or something like that.

I'm confident Cruddy Crudd and Philly K are going to make it "fair and balanced"

I wish they would "pursue other passions" like Matt Ward did.

They gotta impress me like the 6th edition codex impressed me. (And the subsequent FAQ Eratta that allowed crisis suits to take multiples of the same weapon).

Oh. I wish I had kept better track of how many space marines my boys :cussing killed.

I was bored and build The Eight via Battlescribe with them all being Commanders (apart from the Broadside and the Riptide of course). Them alone would already be almost 1400 points (their drones included) lol

I'm definitely going to build myself those guys because I love that they're basically a Kill Team of Commanders unless the rules in CA are super boring. It'll be a nice little hobby project and could be fun in casual games every once in a while. ^^

FSE's The Eight was the WHOLE reason why I started collecting, building and painting a Tau army so ...nice?

I wonder how they will implement The Eight in a Tau army? It would be great to have 6 Commanders without needing 6 Detachments, but then with the cost involved with 6 Commanders I hope we dont need additional/separate HQs to maintain a battleforged army (assuming they have a rule of including The Eight as their own complete detachment).

I'm thinking they won't allow min/max Coldstar Commanders be compatible with "The Eight rules" so again, it will be down to the players if they prefer the effectiveness of Coldstars to the fluffiness of The Eight. I'll probably wouldn't mind if i no longer have to pay a CP just to have the Onager Gauntlet and Fusion Blades in the one army anymore.

My guess would be that theyll be named characters without the “Commander” key word, just the “character” key word. And we’ll see them as not just HQ choices, but elite and heavy support choices. This should hopefully allow them to fit straight into a standard battalion.

How ever they do it, I’m very excited to play tau again! :D

If I were to wishlist I'd be hoping for GW to give each of them a fancy special rule instead of just enabling us to play more Commander/Crisis models with their respective weapons and signature systems. ^^

I am really pumped for this but I do hope that you have the option of deciding how many of the 8 to take (providing you brought Farsight himself along of course) as in the 6th edition codex. Taking all 8 might technically be legal for matched play but it has no chance of being any good when you look at the weird weapon choices they have.

I am going to dust off my Mr Roboto Ob'lotai 9-0 model and freshen it up :)

Looking back at that 6th edition codex, wow those old style crisis suits really did not look beefy enough for the Commander rank they were supposed to have. In the Unity and Glory section Brightsword in particular just looks - anticlimactic.

I'm wondering, since the Onager Gauntlet is also a crucial part of The Eight, maybe added rules could make it better (besides not costing a CP anymore). At the moment it kind of sucks, when crunch-wise it should be just/near as potent as the Fusion Blades right?

Something effective but fluffy such as:

Strength 10 AP-4 Damage 2d6. On a damage roll of 10+, the bearer suffers a mortal wound.

This way you do actually have the potential of stopping a tank in it's tracks with one mighty blow!

The biggest problem of both, Fusion Blades and Onager Gauntlet, is that Commander only have WS3+, can't use all their attacks with those fancy relic weapons and don't get to re-roll failed hit rolls unless you make them your warlord and give them the FSE trait ... but if you take FSE you obviously want him to be your warlord already.

If you have Farsight in the army he will give them re-roll 1s to hit in melee already, as long as they are within 6" (which if you have both relics and Farsight as part of The Eight, is what you are probably doing with your Trio of Combat Commanders).

I was thinking of using, Through Boldness, Victory - for the Fusion Blades Commander (aka Brightsword) so he'll be re-rolling 1s to hit while shooting with his Fusion blasters within 12" of the enemy, and then re-rolling 1s to hit in combat. Hitting on 3s re-rolling 1s for the Fusion Blades / Onager Gauntlet is the best Tau get in combat which is...okay-ish when supporting the beastly Farsight who should be right there with them.

I see how GW wants to differentiate them from standard combat-types like SM Captains by limiting their number of attacks with the weapons, but in return those 1-2 attacks from the Combat Relics should they hit...NEEDS to be truly devastating! Hence, at least the potential of 2d6 damage for each of them, which would be supporting Farsight's total potential of 4d3 damage hitting on 2s re-rolling 1s...which is alright considering that all 3 Relic weapons are at S8/S10, AP-4 and none are unwieldy.
