Dark Angels in fortifications (chapter tactics)

Probably not a great idea but...

I've been thinking about an imperial bastion since a darkshroud can fit behind it to hide from alpha Traktor canons and primaris can go in it and disembark 3 for an extra 4" movement (Interceptors starting in there and having a 32"threat range).

Since it is a transport, the embarked models can't be affected by external stuff such as re-roll auras or stratagems... But what about their own special rules such as dark angels rerolling 1 for standing still or aggressors firing twice for not moving?

That is an inherent ability, so they get to re-roll the 1's.  It is not reliant on anything other than the army being Battle-forged, and being embarked doesn't cancel it anymore than a Bad Moons unit embarked in an open-topped Trukk would cancel their clan kulture of being able to re-roll 1's to hit  when shooting.

Got the imperial bastion on eBay. Think I can make it work. Got a game next week against the strongest player in our club (plays all the Eldar). Not sure if this is an amazing idea or a terrible idea. 192 points is pricy but it can hide my darkshroud and allow a first turn attack with the plasma interceptors. It'll certainly be a surprise.

You know the hellblasters are allowed to shoot from it? I would just keep them inside as long as you can

I was planning on alpha striking with 4 or 5 disembarkimg plasma inceptors, then embarking some scouts. The plasma inceptors frontlining a flying castle of Sableclaw, talonmaster, darkshroud, 2 dark talons and Mephiston. But yeah, having hellblasters shooting from it would be fun but you can't buff them or use stratagems while they are embarked.

My opponent always runs dark reapers, usually from a wave serpent into cover with all the buffs, either as Ynnari or Alatioc. If I can murder them in my first turn I'll be feeling pretty good.

  • 3 weeks later...

Not given it a roll yet. Life got in the way so we are rescheduled for this week. My opponent has sent me his new Alatioc/Ynnari/DE Flayed Skull list... looks pretty brutal.

I'll report back and let you know how it goes.

Worked pretty well.

Lost the roll off and went second and lost a lot of stuff. My turn 1, the DA inceptors disembarked the bunker and wiped 2 vipers and a raider, Mephiston managed to move 4+7+12 and charged a Crimson Hunter, killed it, a smash captain disembarked the bunker and got into combat with a wave serpent and smashed it.

Unfortunately I lost too much of my stuff (double shooting reapers) on T1 and on T2 a lucky roll killed off my inceptors with the bombs from the swooping hawks bombs, leaving the talonmaster and Sammael exposed for shooting.

Quick and brutal game, there was not a lot of DA/BA or eldar left on the table by the end of T2 but we called it as there was no way for me to win on points (lost 30 scouts T1).

Going first would have been a different story, both lists were very killy and quite delicate.

Definitely some play to be had from fortifications as a launch pad for charachters/Primaris. I'll have a rethink after CA drops.
