I am lucky enough to have got my hands on the new Chaos Lord, and decided to paint him up as Black Legion. I will very likely be painting this guy up for my Word Bearers too at some point.

Loads to do yet, lot of tidying up and such, but not too bad so far. Gorgeous model, so cool to be getting some unaligned Chaos models!

Oooh, sweet! I love your painting man. Could we get some more angles?:)

I will do when I can. My camera battery was running out this morning so had to take a couple of quick snaps and make do. :(

:(

Not a fan I take it? :D

Really looking forward to seeing a Word Bearer version of this guy in the future. That's something I've been thinking about myself, but you're kind of the XVII Legion expert around here, and I can't wait to see what you do with him.

He's looking fantastic in his Black Legion heraldry. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Firstly, what colours are you using for that fur? It's very rich and... pelt-like. I'd love to get an effect like that. Secondly, having built this mini, how hard would you say he'd be to head swap? From the sprue pictures I've seen it looks like it wouldn't be easy, since the head is part of the torso front and sits right next to the fur and cables, but I haven't actually seen the model in the "flesh" so to speak.

Glad you like him so far! It's been ages since I painted anything black legion. :D

The fur is skrag brown > tau light ochre > screaming skull > a few dots of pure white here and there at the tips of the fur. Not every single one though.

And I think swapping his head would be a bit if a job. Not impossible, but it isn't just a simple cut off and replace, it's very much moulded into the mini.

Hope it helps. :D

I would just try and be as clean as I could with some clippers, and after that cut out the rest with a knife. A bit of file work would be good. After that it depends what head you are swapping in. You would have to make some more space if it was a helmet, as the piping round the neck is pretty restrictive.

Shame to hear about the head, but then something being tricky never stopped me before! I think I will stick with my plan of using him as a base model to update my Word Bearers dark apostle.

Liking your work as always Tzen, looking good, have you got the traitor guard too?

Edit: Is that a pipe of some kind running around the Thunder Hammer? Where does it go and how easy would it be to open out the stance to the head of the hammer was away from the body rather than in front?

I think it's deffo swapable, will just take some work.

Glad you like him, I do have the traitor guard but I doubt I will be doing any of them. I just dont have time these days. :(

The pipe from the hammer seems to go into the arm. I can't see anything else. I can't imagine the hammer head would be too difficult to convert.

  • 2 months later...
I began this model some time ago, but I started getting pretty unwell literally as I sat there painting him, and haven’t touched the mini for about three months.

After spending some time recovering , I have finally got round to him again.
