BT confirmed on Vigilus

Recommended Posts

News from Vigilus, for anyone who missed it. Cryptix (unsure if an attendee) states that we'll be seeing new rules for the crusader squad in the Vigilus Campaign book:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/351428-vigilus-campaign-books-series/?p=5198689

The speculation is that we might see primaris mix with our initiates and neophytes, but that doesn't seem confirmed anywhere yet.

And, Valrak was attending and confirms Black Templar were mentioned, perhaps in the context of stratagems:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgdn3fjBTT8?&t=110

So, I thought I'd start a little ol' thread to collect any other BT-centric rumours coming out of Vigilus, while at the same time inviting the kind of wild speculation and wish-listing that gets similar topics locked in the News, Rumors, etc. section.

So speculate away! New primaris upgrade sprue with super long robes? Bolt rifles covered in chains? Or will we see all the old editions' material return? Primaldus?

...

Or is it just a name drop with a bit of art and fluff?

Edit 08/12/12, the good stuff:

Brothers rejoice!! This is a great detach for us!

Affects Helbrecht, EC, Company Champ, Company Vets for 1 CP

Warlord Trait - Master swordsman - +1 attack and every unmodified roll to hit of 6 is 2 hits

Relic - THE HOLY ORB OF ANTIOCH!!!!!! Yes you heard that right! - Lob it at some rabbits heretics/xenos and for every 10 models in the unit roll a D6, on a 2+ they suffer D3 mortal wounds

Strats

Uphold the Honor of the Emperor - 1CP - Give a SB unit a 5+ FNP!

Suffer not the Unclean to Live - 2CP - Give a SB unit +1 attack and re-roll wound rolls!

The only minor downside is that it does not affect VV, Sternguard or TDA. But I think it might be OP if they did. Regardless, Company Vets are a great unit and can take literally just about any weapon as a true SB would.

Kinda touching on this in the Primaris Helbrecht thread.  Were I to place a wager, I'd say special Primaris Templar rules and little to nothing else.  GW's just wanting to keep pushing the new product line, not buttress old stuff.  I'd be surprised if we got rules related to Crusader Squads without regards to Primaris.  A Stratagem or two as well, maybe.

But I'm fairly confident there won't be new models.  A Primaris Templar upgrade sprue pushes the boundaries of my skepticism.  Melee Primaris squads would be the absolute most possible, but I doubt it would come with Vigilus, and doubt it would be packaged as a Templar thing.

I came back to 40k just before Gathering Storm dropped, and I've been building and painting Crusader Squads at a slow pace...

I have a really hard time getting motivated to continue. It seems like we are in a confusing period of a paradigm shift when it comes to Space Marines.

Are the old, small guys even something to invest in at this point? I have been pondering if I should buy Helbrecht, EC and Grimaldus for a while now, but with the Calgar release maybe I should wait? But if so, how long am I going to wait?

I don't feel like paying 70 euros, only to purchase the same characters again a year or two from now.
I really dislike the lore and idea of Primaris and their boooooring loadouts, but I do like the idea of updated true scale Marines.
If updated Primaris Crusader Squads = "you can mix in Intercessors and Reivers if you want", I think that's still a pass for me.

I lurk around the numerous Reddit Warhammer subreddits, and all I see these days are Primaris bodies with "squat" loadouts. It's confusing as hell.

Just add a "upgrade to Primaris, adds 1 wound 1 attack" to every single Space Marine squad type and start selling "Primaris Upgrade" kits with truescale legs and torsos and be done with it. I feel like the current approach GW has to Primaris is just late stage capitalism bull:cuss to incentivize people to buy two kits for every squad they build.

Boy, I really picked the wrong SM Chapter to start during these confusing times... :-( I miss 4th edition.

Well. A BT upgrade kit for primaris thst included something special would go a long way.

We are a cc focused chapter and we've seen upgrade sprues give intercessors options they don't otherwise have already...

Even if all we get is off hand chainswords for intercessors. That would be pretty cool for now eh?

The current BT spru is dated but the weapon arms to fit on intercessors... They could just let us use a lot that's already on the shelves and let us give intercessors the old reliable BP&CS load out

Atleat get the Champion and Grimaldus (for the Cenos). And in regards to Crusader Squads and Primaris? I have doubts we’ll see a Primaris Crusader Squad. And for Intercessor v Crusaders, well those two units are both equally good. They just have slightly different roles or application relatively speaking.

Also depending your wallet, Space Marine Heroes are larger scales original marines and are perfectly compatible with our upgrade sprew. I’d maybe wait on Helbrect. But Emperor’s Champion is amazing and even if he gets a Primaris Version, you’d still be able to use the non-Primaris Champion as well non Primaris Emperor’s Champion for a few points less (assuming the champion is Primaris’d). And Grimaldus being Primaris, well the big thing there are the Cenobytes. Who are utterly amazing and definetely won’t be primaris’ed.

I guess I'm just a bit frustrated that I hoarded 6 BT Upgrade kits and bits for 60 Squat marines.

But then again, I also hoarded a bunch of vehicles and dreads. I basically bought an unpainted, unsassembled 3000pt BT squat army from eBay and various yard sales.

Maybe I should just go for it and finish this "classic" army. I could always reinforce them with Primaris IF or CF later on. =)

On another note... models that have dropped after Codex: SM sometimes seem to have loadout options that are not listed in the Codex?

It could be anything really, maybe its just regular crusader squad but with some special rule, could be 20 man Intercessor squad or a mixed Reiver/Intercessor/Scout squad. Honestly theres little information but I do hope that if we get a Prrimaris Crusader it has nothing to do with Scout because those models look awful, give me a 20 man power armored squad and I can be a happy templar.

Don't look at me I have all told probably over 200 marines in going to hack up and truacale for various armies, 100 of which are BT.

THIS CRUSADE IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEARTS!

we shall see how everything goes from here on out.

.

The above is still considered a pile of treasure.

And now the true wealth you have accumulated is revealed.

Yes, continue onwards. If we stopped doing what  we were doing every time some bit of news was revealed, we'd all be looking at unbuilt and/or unpainted armies.

Always move forward.

I could always reinforce them with Primaris IF or CF later on. =)

Which is exactly what I am doing. My crusade is made up of plenty of  the original guys, plus another 100 or so of unbuilt Mk IIIs.

I do like the Primaris Intercessor, Reivers, and Helblaster models, so I've opted to add them as an attachment of IF forces, which is the best of both worlds for me.

Cheers,

I think it might be the City Fight expansion rather than Vigilus (I'm struggling to keep the rumors of what's in what book straight right now as we have Chapter Approved 2018, Vigilus, and City Fight on the horizon) but I'm wondering what the "Indomitus Crusade Veterans" upgrade for Intercessors will be like.  If it's increases stats or different weapon options they might be good for count as Primaris Sword Brethren.

I'm going on a cynical stroll here but we are getting something to use which almost certainly will buff old marines in crusader squads ,(and by extent ravenwing will receive for their oldbike marines) when we just saw Primaris Calgar?

The rules will buff old units while we get the confirmation that Primaris are the narrative focus now. That's my assumption at least.

Not an exciting prospect for me.

Well, so long as it doesn't require us to take Sisters again it would be a small step in the right direction from the last time we were noticed by GW. I imagine it will require Crusader Squads, but won't bother trying to guess what else.

I have some optimism. We have at least one friend at GW. (One of the miniatures designers, Maxime Corbeil.)

From what I saw somewhere about the process, the miniatures designers actually set the program of rules. The models are designed, so if he designs models for us. The rules will follow. (He also said that the EC is his favourite character ever, so maybe one will come one day?)

Although, I don't see why we need a specifically Primaris EC. The EC can be from any order of the brethren, the Neos, the Initiates or the Sword. It's not like GW would write rules for a Primaris EC with 5 wounds. And they have the same strength and toughness as marines. The EC transgresses boundaries.

Thank you. I really wonder why people keep saying that "It cannot be anything but certain marine kind". The chosen one gets visions or dreams or both. Goes to chaplains and MIGHT be next EC...

I mean if EC was a Primaris he’d gain +1W/+1A in addition to this current stats and/or for those it’s relavent for, ride in the Repulsor, for about 10-11 points more.

Also I still say go back to to the original lore where the Armor And Sword just best stuff in the local Crusader Armoury to handle the “how do they fit/wield” logic
