Khorne LoS Build

Daemon Prince Marbas

Slap some knight legs on the Lord of Skulls and you can make a Kytan daemon engine, those are pretty killy. Warptime it upfield and toss a death hex at an enemy knight and watch the carnage ensue.

You can still play and have fun with it. It definitely doesn't suck, IMO. Daemonforge to re-roll hits/wounds in shooting or combat is pretty awesome on the Lord of Skulls. As mentioned, Warptime is pretty crucial for making use of it before it gets blown up.

Just go with what's cool. That's really all that matters with such a characterful model. It might not be the most competetive choice but if you like the model that shouldn't matter. ;)

What is the most optimal load out for a Khorne Lord of Skulls?

A friend of mine has had success competitively with Gorestorm/Skullhurler. Yes, competitively.

He runs it with 3 Renegade Knights (Dual Battle Cannon, Avenger/Chainsword and Fist/Chainsword).

He runs it as World Eaters because Superheavy Aux detachments still get the Legion Keyword (Aux Supports don't). Then it can use "Blood God's Scorn" to shut down Psychic Powers on a 4+

This version is 552pts. A "budget" version with the Ichor Cannon instead can get down into the 530's, not much more than a Kytan.

His always makes its points back because the opponent is forced into a difficult decision regarding what to shoot first, the LoS or the Fist/Sword guy.

It is slower, but heals every turn, has 28 wounds as opposed to 24, has an Invuln in CC, and is more efficient with command points (Daemonforge costs 1CP and applies to both hit and wound, as opposed to Trail of Destruction, which is just hits and costs 2). Also allows him to have 2 units rerolling to hit every turn and its skills never degrade. Its attacks actually go UP when it's wounded.

It can still shoot while it's in there chopping people up, without any need to leave combat, and having the big autohit weapon with an 18 inch range on top of its movement helps against units that can stack hit penalties.

So if you field at least one other superheavy or other extremely nasty unit to force your opponent to make a difficult choice, it can do work. Fielding it by itself will get you mixed results.

Speaking of mixed......field Khorne Daemon characters next to it so it gets +1 Strength. Bring a small Khorne Daemon detachment and it can reroll charges or benefit from things like the Crimson Crown.

Go cheap with the auto heating weapons,

Super heavy detachment

Magnas

Mortarion

LOS

There is a high chance that you will get it close and in combat.

As others have said the positives are:

BS / WS doesn't degrade

it always has a 5+ save at worst

Attacks go up as it gets damaged

It heals a wound each turn

Daemon forge it in combat and it will be a monster.

It doesn't have loads of shooting going cheap but the shooting is a bonus in my eyes.

It out classes the Kytan in every way with the points currently.

I also believe it is a better choice than the Brass scorpion for competitive environments.
