Fighting an unbeaten list

Evening Brothers

I am gearing up for a game after a few weeks away with the old enemy...the Dark Angels! My opponent believes he has an amazing list which is unbeaten in 5 games, against more experienced players. I thought i would reach out to the network of brothers across the galaxy to find wisdom on how to overcome these traitors!

So... down to business.

He is so confident he is telling me what he is running.

Ravenwing

2 Dark Talons

1 Stormraven

Sammael on Corvex

5 Black knight squad x2

Darkshroud (key support unit)

So I have been reading all their special rules, and why they are so effective, and I am struggling to find a way to break the back of the list.

I have added 2 Crimson Fists dev squads to my armoury and some hellblasters, but still need more wisdom to unlock the zeal stored away.

Thanks,

Ignore the flyers completely. If you kill everything else you win due to "Boots on the Ground" (I think that is the name of the rule). Kill the darkshroud ASAP. Autocannons for D2 vs bikers is great, a twin Auto dread or 2 would do wonders. They would even work well against the darkshroud. I would take a shooty list to fight this one, with one melee unit that can be delivered directly into Sammaels face, so he can't hide him behind his flyers to prevent targeting.

Ultimately play to our strengths, not to his. He’ll have only 5 CP. You should be bringing atleast 9 if not 14 CP. Start off; Emperor’s Champion, Cenos, Marshall And a Castallen around 230-250 points. Then 2-4 Crusader Squads (mix of Tide or Faux Devi, 2-2 is a nice setup), and 0-3 Intercessors.

Then get yourself some elites, Dreadnoughts and Reivars are nice and cheap good stand by. At that point you’ll have board control with your troops, three reasonable combat characters, Morale Immunity (I’d give Rites alongside taking Cenos).

Leaving you around 700 points for toys. Taking down Knights can be harder due to some of there rules. But Hellblaster Plasma, Mass Aggressor Shootig or even ThunderAtors*. All bring them down to bar.

Ultimately play to our strengths. Which when fighting other marines, we have fantastic board prescence and CP wise, only Ultra’s can do better. Because between Intercessors and Crusaders (And for those of less faith, Scouts), we have fantastic troop options.

But the moment those Terminators come down drop them like a rock.

Black Knights are the bikers, so worse save than the termies.

It's the -1 to hit that is going to be the toughest part honestly. Get that darkshroud asap

sorry - i meant bikes (i dont know why i write Terminators.

-1 to hit will be lost after killing the one land speeder... shouldnt be that hard.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Medjugorje, the minus 1 is harder than you think. That thing has caused me problems before, and it takes some firepower to bring it down. Its definitely a priority target. I am really not sure what he is taking in the stormraven, he must be holding something back and just not telling me.

Anyway, Schlitzaf, that was my plan. Play to the mission and deal with him using our strengths when need be. I reckon I need to get more autocannons in my army, as a few locals have mentioned them to me as well.

What are peoples thoughts on flyers, looking at getting a one, either a Stormtalon or interceptor?

After that, still deciding whether I let Girlymans marines into the ranks of my Templars!

this -1 to hit is just against this land speeder  - after you destroyed him.... its over. Take Helbrech and 2 LasCan Razorbacks to destroy that.

See what I was doing with this is using the 2 dev squads (crimson fists) to take out this. Mix of ML and LS that should cut it down to size relatively quickly.
