The Hammer on Vigilus

So, going by the table of contents in this preview, it looks like we're getting a total of 5 specialist detachments in the Vigilus book

The names all go back to 7th ed formations, so we probably have a fairly good idea of whay they'll be for. Mechanised Infantry, Artillery, Tanks, Mass Infantry and Scion drop troops.

Which seems to have all the usual bases covered. I'm pleasantly surprised. :D

Honestly, with how many cp my guard usually have, I'm really looking forward to some options, even if they don't end up being amazing. Hopefully they're not regiment linked though. That would be kind of annoying.

I think fluff-wise the old Emperor's Fist formation was a Cadian formation in 7th...but regiments didn't matter back then.

Apart from the Scion-Drop Force I can't imagine them being regiment-locked. The names for the Guard ones are fairly generic, while the Space Marine ones tend to suggest specific chapters or approaches in theirs.

They'll probably be ways for Guard to get more command points easily ;)

Could be fun, I'd also happily trade 5 CP or so for some fun rules that aren't actually any good.

Not sure paying £45 for the book will be fun though, I suspect I'll pass on this unless the book is fantastic.

Hopefully the book is £30, but white Dwarf says it's £45... I hear WD has been wrong before though so fingers crossed because £45 is fairly outrageous!

The above comment is interesting, but since Primaris can't even go in regular Marine transports there's no way it'll be allowed in Matched play. I guess in Narrative or open you could just do whatever the hell you want.

New one up

A Leman Russ Spearhead looks even more appealing.  If the conqueror doesn't get hit with a nerf,  a spearhead turned into an emperor's fist filled with some conquerors, lead by a battle tank with relic cannon would be pretty strong.

I may well run my command vanquisher as a relic battlecannons instead, as vanquishers are rubbish.

I'm liking the field commander stratagem. A way to get the extra warlord traits without sacrificing your warlord, as well as keeping your warlord safe instead of being a huge russ target. Sounds nice.

You mean tanks getting charged? The overwatch re-roll is pretty good for that. Mordian tanks are now better at shooting when they get charged!

If the book is £30 I might pick it up because these look like good, non-cheesy ways to spend some CP's. A Battle cannon that actually works is a nice bonus as well.

The relic battle cannon on a tank commander sounds pretty awesome

Especially if your catachan or cadian with the reroll number of shots order / stratagem?

I might even have to finally build mine and field it

I suspect the Tank commander is doomed if he's now dishing out orders, re-rolls to Overwatch AND has a bad-ass cannon as well. But I'd go for this with a Spearhead I would think, unless some of the other detachments seem better / more fun. I still want my Brigade after all!

I hope there's a Rough Rider focused one with conversions from the new Genestealer bikes in mind! Fat chance of that mind you.
