What to Proxy to play the Sister Beta Codex

As someone who has been waiting for plastic sisters for a long time I want to join in with the beta codex and play some games and if I can give feedback that is useful.

However, aside from a few random metal sisters, I do not have an army so was thinking of proxying  a small to medium army (1,000p – 1,500p) to use.

Out of my armies the one I think I would be best able to proxy is my 30k legion. I have around 90 Mrk IV Marines, 40 with bolters, and 10 each of Flamer, Melta, Plasma, Heavy Bolter and Missile Launcher.

So if I use the Missile Launchers to stand in for MultiMeltas and the Plasma for say Heavy Flamers (or another special weapon as long I was consistent army wide) does this seem like a useful starting point?

I also have some Rhinos/Razorbacks to use as Rhinos/Imolators and 3 converted sige tanks that could stand in for Exorcists.

Obviously I do not know what the beta codex contains, and I am out of touch with the index rules but from my historical knowledge of older codexs I think this could be ok, thoughts?

Outside of converting alternative sisters using eisenkern valkyr or something (which totally negates the point of waiting for the new plastics), regular marines are probably the best proxy that you could use since they are all in power armor and typically have the same weapons.  Since you have a 30k army, destroyers with jump packs are an excellent proxy for seraphim.

If you have some Assault Marines to proxy as Seraphim, that'll help too.

Unfortunately I don’t have either normal assault marines or jump destroyers, so that had not even occurred to me. May be the excuse to get some though.

The only ‘jump’ models I have that I can think of are metal XV15 Stealth Suits or Swooping Hawks.

Well, any units you can use that are identifiable as Seraphim will work, as long as your opponent agrees :) Seraphim are a good unit to have.

Hawks would be really nice for Seraphim, since they're both on 25mm bases, and mostly everything else is on 32mms.

You'll need models to represent:

Sisters with jump packs, +a couple of identifiable jump pack models for seraphim with special weapons (up to 2x per squad), and another identifiable one for a Sergeant.

Regular battle sisters with boltguns

Battle sisters with meltaguns

Battle sisters with stormbolters to explore some of the new beta options

Battle sisters with Heavy bolters

Battle sisters with Flamers (though they're not very good right now)

Rhino-sized vehicles can be either Rhinos, Immolators, or Repressors (they're all the same chassis with stuff popped on top), even the Exorcist is on the Rhino chassis, but maybe something a little different like a Predator could proxy in, something that sits lazily in the back

Any dreadnought type model can do Penitent Engine duty.

Any generic HQ can sit in for your Canoness

Get a shiny HQ for Celestine!

It'll definitely look a mess, but should get you able to play some games and preview the rules without dropping $1000 on some metal models.  The actual unit depth isn't staggering in the model line.  I didn't list EVERYTHING we can field, but that should hit the highlights of what you want on the table.  Depending on the love Repentia get, you may want to have some more assaulty looking models for them.

Good luck!  And enjoy :D

Is it? Surly every additional game of sisters that gets played and any feedback that generates is a boon for sisters.  If some of us have to use proxies because we were never able to afford metal then so be it.

If your objection is purely aesthetic, in that my current best bet at proxies for some units are xenos rather than imperial, then don’t be so quick to judge, this is a game and people are free to collect what they want.

Depending on how important fielding multiple units of Repentia turns out to be, I may end up using Greatblade Sisters of Silence to play the part. Wyches and/or Witch Elves are also a possibility.

My thought is that Repentia we're already good in the index, but with a reduced cost and access to a good conviction should make them a staple in the sisters arsenal, even if they require a decent amount of support.
