Jam's Ultras

Hey all,

Some of you may know me from the Imperial Guard sub forum.

I got back into the hobby at the beginning of 2017 having not done anything for 20 years nearly. Any how I've finished my guard army and decided I really ought to paint up my 2k or so primaris marines I've purchased since they were first announced.

I've decided to try to recreate the Smurfs army I poorly painted as a young teenager in the mid late 90s, using old marine helmets as a homage.

I'm aiming for a core army of marines painted like so:

And then for the rest of the army I'm thinking of painting combat squads as successors, with the new Calgar to lead them.

Hoping to use this as a bit of motivation!

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words guys. I managed to get my combat squad leader finished, and I've made a start on the Silver Skulls contingent of my army:

I'm thinking Silver Skulls, Sons of Guilliman and Sycthes of the Emperor for the rest of my army.

Really enjoying painting something with colour after spending the past year painting Cadians!

Thanks for the kind words lads. This week's progress:

Done the freehand squad markings on the silver Skulls squad, and got all the base coats down etc, made a start on basing.

For the ultras I've still got a ton to do but I keep switching between them and the silver Skulls to keep me interested.

Also treated myself to a redemptor Dreadnought as I don't have one

So I'm still working on the dreadnought, but I've taken a break from it to get through the mind numbing task of batch painting.

I've managed to get 10 marines and 5 hellblasters basecoat with 4 colours on each, then next week I intend to do the highlights etc.

Did a test recipe of using Altdorf guard blue for my first layer after base, I normally do Macragge>50/50Macragge/Calgar>Calgar>Fenrisian>Blue Horror.

On this one it's replacing the Macragge Calgar mix:
