Adeptus Magneticus: What's worthwhile?

Hello Brothers and Sisters of the Cog,

The Hand of the Omnissiah is upon me, and I'm looking for some advice.

I don't have a wide selection of models yet - only the ones from the Forgebane box - but as I make my list, what would many of you consider to be the most worthwhile models for using magnets to swap parts on and off? I haven't come across any threads on specific AdMech magnet conversions so I wanted to send my noospheric request directly to the forum.

Also, are there any particular size magnets recommended? I'd like to get some to be ready for the oncoming purchase and assembly of models.

I appreciate any assistance you may provide.

Thanks.

While I can't help with magnet sizes and whatnot (I have yet to actually magnetize my own models), my biggest recommendation would be to magnetize the weapons on the Dunecrawler. Icarus Array, Neutron Laser, and I guess Eradication Beamer if you so choose (Twin Heavy Phosphor is worthless on a dunecrawler in my opinion. That's what robots are for). You could magnetize the fists or guns for Kastelan Robots as well, so you can go full dakka or give someone a Baymax hug. Kataphrons too if you buy some. Can always give yourself the option to swap main weapons. Other than that, for the AdMech side of things I don't think you really need to magnetize anything else.

Since you say you have the Forgebane box, for your Armigers, you could always magnetize the arms and purchase some Helverin weapon bits online. That way you won't have to buy another box if you want to use Helverins over Warglaives, just the arms and some magnets.

Frostglaive summed it up nicely and I can't think of any other Admech unit to magnetize (not sure if you could do ballistarii vs dragoon or not).  I did magnetize my Onager as described above and it is fairly simple.  I'd have to measure the size, but I tend to go with 1/16  (~1 mm) thickness.  I am pretty sure my Onager magnets were 1/8" wide, but even 1/4" wide would be okay.  There are many tutorials online for the Onager which may be more specific.

With the new formation coming out for Kastelan robots, it may very well worth magnetizing the fists/weapons.

The only thing I'd add would be the vanguard/ranger sergeants - if you have some odd points and 2mm magnets to waste, give them CC weapons (their stock guns are better than the pistols). With every skitarii box, you can magnetize one sergeant with EVERY option, as every option (even radium/galvanic rifle) has its own arm and shoulder attached, no other bitz required. I tend to use the cog-helmet for all sergeants (vanguard and ranger), that makes these models truly universal.

Ironstriders/Dragoons are magnetisable but really fiddly and not as easy as an Onager, it involves magnitising the arms of the rider and not gluing down the control handlebars...Im in the process of doing one atm, but I'm honestly considering just not bothering tbh...

Magnetizing the dragoon's lance (same magnets as skitarii) might be useful for transport though...
