Purge the Xenos - Deathwatch

Greetings brothers

Finally started some Deathwatch. Initially they're planned as a kill team, but I'm already considering expanding them into a small strike force for regular 40k.

First miniature built was a Blood Angel Intercessor, followed by a Blackshield who also served as my paint scheme tester;

I truescaled him easily enough using large bionic legs from Anvil Industry. Here he is pictured with a Carcharodon Astra void brother;

and alone;

and a trio shot of the completed members so far

Next on the painting bench are an Imperial Fist comms specialist and an Ultramarine commander. I've also built this guy, again truescaled with Anvil legs;

The Deathwatch shoulder pad is a placeholder for now as its the old style, I have the updated upgrade kit en route. I'm enjoying the project so far, C&C appreciated.

Heeeey, I recognize that Blackshield from the Deathwatch 40k group on Facebook. Didn't know you were on here as well :laugh.:

I like the look of these guys. Very Blanchitsu.

Also, how'd you get the non-Primaris Blood Angels torso to fit on the Primaris marine?

Hey! Yeah I'm around a few sites etc

Thanks! I managed it through lots and lots of cutting, they're considerably smaller than the primaris torsos so it would only really work if you had a piece with a tabard etc to hide the gap it leaves around the belt. From there it was just a little green stuff and some pouches on the sides to hide the join

Very cool, very gritty. :thumbsup:

Thank you!

I made some progress on the comms specialist and the commander;

Both are still WIP but you get the idea. I'm a novice on the OSL, half terrified I've messed the minis up completely so any pointers on that in particular are appreciated

What is your recipe for black? Really love the weather and the personalities of these model!

Thanks! The black is actually really simple..

  • Black spray paint followed by a grey spray highlight
  • Vallejo negro metallic black all over
  • Wash with Citadel Reikland Fleshshade and Nuln Oil (Nuln x 2)
  • Drybrush the edges with Citadel Runefang Steel

Over the top I then use Typhus Corrosion and extremely watered down Vallejo Mahogany Brown to weather the armour

Looks good. Love the epic marine on the Sergeants arm

Thank you! I've done it a couple of times now and it never gets old

Update..

I finished some more members;

Great looking Kill teams!

Love the Carcharodon the most, so gritty and bloody as his kind should be. :yes:

Thanks mate :smile.: I love the sharks, had to include at least one in the force.. the birthday mini seemed like a cool model to turn into on!

Progress...

It doesn't pick up very well in wide shots, but I tried my hand at camo/warpaint on him;

The ancient walks...

I built my shiny new Redemptor Dreadnought and turned the wolf commander from tooth and claw into a regular Intercessor. Tried to come up with something for the negative space on the dreads base, and ended up with this..

Your new models look promising; I like the Intercessor's aggressive pose. In what Legion/Chapter colors will you paint the dying/dead Marine on the Redemptor Dreadnought's base?

Cheers! He will be Deathwatch as well, though in darker, more muted colours so he doesn't stand out against the dread so much

Thats top notch work!

Thank you!

Very dark and gritty - this is the style I expect from veterans of many Deathwatch missions.  They have dealt with horrors that even most space marines cannot imagine.

Great work.  :thumbsup:

Thanks mate, exactly the sort of look I was going for so I'm glad it translates.

Update time...

More Intercessors finished!

46433750231_8a02e9e773_c.jpg

From left to right, we have an Iron Skull, Ultramarine, Novamarine, Minotaur, and Howling Griffon

I've also built a second, 5 man squad of Intercessors with stalker bolt rifles

45697231794_7b26fdb7e8_c.jpg

They're missing DW shoulder pads for now because I ran out of them again!

And finally, my Redemptor has had some work...

46433684871_ec20a69ee0_c.jpg

45710642814_a802b159aa_c.jpg

I thought it would be interesting to see the marine inside prior to his internment, in a mural of sorts on the sarcophagus.

Thanks for looking

  • 5 months later...

Back with a small update for now, I got distracted with other projects such as my Gene Cult project...

48007437912_b305d4a522_c.jpg

Anyway, the Redemptor is done for now.

48007357048_dfcc82fb79_c.jpg

I've managed to get the bulk of the work done on my stalker bolter Intercessor team as well. I'll see about a group shot of the army so far when they're finished!

C&C welcome

Been a little while since I posted here. I've made some substantial progress..

49105487786_7d09e6de79_c.jpg

A Librarian and kitbashed Chaplain have joined the watch...

49105675602_8907871715_c.jpg

As has a Hellblaster squad. I got a photo of the latest Intercessor squad before painting, as well..

49105038563_5fb193881d_c.jpg

And finally, a group shot

49105473041_7dd9e7f133_c.jpg

As it stands right now, the force consists of;

- Captain, Librarian & Chaplain

- 4 x Intercessor squads

- Hellblaster squad

- Redemptor Dreadnought

Next I think I'll be adding another Redemptor, a Leviathan and a Sicaran Venator. C&C welcome

Oh my... ok

Well I love your work... I think you do not have much more comments just because you rendered everyone speechless.

From kitbashing to painting this is all so amazing

I love your extreme SOL work and I really do not like source of light, especially so extreme!! But I love yours, probably because everything else is so dark! So much Caravaggio!

Ant then I noticed the awesome painting ( is it a freehand? I hope not for my sanity) on the dreadnought you actually had the balls to weather (And you did it so well)...WOW
