Denizens of the warp question.

Duplicate post! So the benefit of the strategem over regular summoning is... that... it's more reliable?

The benefit even after repeated horrendous nerfs is that units OFF the table stay alive better than units ON the table.

GW apparently listened to all the nwbs that didnt use screens to protect their derpy gunline.  There is a silver lining in this though.. maybe.  There really isnt any more design space to go in terms of nerfs.  Either we have the current system or do not have deep strike.  So take some solace in that.  Oh, and keep tabling all the idiots that still aren't screening.  Just do it turn 2.

I don't think anywhere in 8th says that codex trumps rulebook, that was how previous editions did stuff. 8th ed just goes by the more intuitive "special rules treat normal circumstances". Denizens of the Warp doesn't trump anything because its just reserves and all reserves work the same.

You can use Denizens of the Warp to drop stuff down on turn 1 outside of matched play. In 8th codexes are for all forms of play while the reserves rules change depending on the type of game so it wouldn't make much sense for codexes to trump anything when some stratagems aren't designed for competitive play (eg Tyranid Pheremone trail or the Valhallan next wave thing).

You can't use the banner of blood from summoning, that's the main reason to use the stratagem. Summoning also needs a character to move into range.

The deepstrike nerf was to stop short range guns performing shooting alpha strikes, not melee deepstrikers. They then changed it from the beta "own deployment zone only" version to the current version because despite high tier players being pleased they couldn't come up with an answer when people asked what the fluff justification for the beta version was.
