We have always been here. We are farmers, we are shepherds. We are warriors! We drink, we dance and we fight!Long had we lived on these mountains, the land of our forefathers, defending it with our blood. Some things never changes no matter who comes... We always been here, we will always be. We were here when the Sun God faced the Moon Wolf, and we will be here when their sons decide the fate of the stars... We are Dragani, And we have been chosen!

The Grey Talons were part of the 13th founding in the early 36th Millenium.
Despite the lack of reliable information, the Chapter gene seed is suspected to be from the White Scars, due to their wild savagery and thirst for war typically found in the sons of the Khan.

The Chapter Keep named Herminium Mons, loosely translated into High Gothic as "The Hearth", is situated in the Highest mountain range of the feral Planet Ophiussa in the west of Segmantus Pacificus.

Herminium Mons

A mountainous and rocky planet, lacking in natural resources, the tribes that make this world their home fight each other for survival. These tribal wars tend to be brutal and provides the chapter with hardened recruits used to the realities of war.

Home to several warring tribes, the chapter recruits from several of the most tough and unyielding tribes.
The coming of the Sons of the Sun God is a event worth of celebration in every tribe visited. These visits to recruit aspirants are well integrated within the tribal culture which calls these events the "Ascension"

Chosen recruits are given a night with a fertile female of their choosing so they can leave their bloodline within the tribe.

The chapter seems to have abandoned the Codex Astartes in organization and disposition, but without further evidence collected by the Imperial intitutions it is considered conjecture.
The Grey Talons don't use Devastator Squads, Heavy support being provided by the chapter veichles.
The Veterans are awarded the Honour of using Terminator armour, while Sargents commonly use MK6 armour. On closer inspection this award of MK6 armour seems to be a badge of office, no doubt tied to some chapter tradition.
Each company is a self sustained army on its own right, the most experienced battle brothers leading the Tactical squads.
The chapter also as an independent organisation called Slí An Chroí, under the direct orders of the Chapter Master.
Loosely translated as Body, Mind and Spirit, this organization brings together the Chaplains, Apothecaries, and Librarians, dedicated to the heal and balance of the battle brothers of the chapter. They also serve as guides and counselors to the company captains.
The Chapter also lacks ancient technology using more common vehicles such as the rhinos and predators and whirlwinds.
Techmarines skills are highly valued by the chapter, and these battle brothers rarely see battle.
The warriors of the chapter also carry the skulls of worthy allies fallen in battle so their spirits can take joy in the heat of battle once more.
This chapter tradition is seen with dread outside the chapter, and most Imperial institutions tends to the avoid the chapter due to their terrifying reputation.
They are especially feared by the Imperial Guard, where rumors of this infamous tradition spread like wildfire.

Due to their Tribal background the warriors of the chapter are highly superstitious, and adopted several costumes from the tribes of their home planet.
The Librarians tend to focus in the art of divination to better help direct the course of battle, and it is a skill greatly appreciated within the chapter.
After battles, enemy skulls are collected, and burnt so their spirits are destroyed, and worthy allies or brothers skulls are collected, and some might be given the Honor of seeing battle again.

The Grey Talons space marines prefer Brutal Assault, Close Combat actions.

The Chapter seem to split into a number of Battle Companies designed to operate independently. Each has an augmented auxiliary force of Scout Marines for reconnaissance and evaluation of the enemy,

Some accounts indicate that they seem to have abandoned the Codex Astartes-prescribed symbols and insignia that signify rank and assignment in a Battle Company. In their place, the Battle-Brothers use a wide range of tribal markings, corresponding with their Tribal traditions. This is naught but conjecture, however, as again, the Grey Talons are quite unwilling to discuss the intricacies of their Chapter’s organisation.

Only a few intelligible accounts of the Grey Talons exist that tell of the Chapter's very disciplined order of deployment and combat, despite the evidence from casual observers that they are a barbarous and savage Chapter in nature. Their tactical deployments and use of shock-assault tactics is highly reminiscent of the Black Templars. Although these Chapters are diametrically opposed in character, they both tend to display an overriding desire to close with the enemy and shatter their foes in bloody personal combat.

The core of their tactics rely on large detachments of mobile Space Marine infantry. In this way, the Grey Talons make use of the bloody prowess of their combat brethren to carry the day in battle. They often endeavor to be the initiator of combat actions and prefer not to fight on the defensive. Tactical operations often begin with a Battle Company using its integrated Scout Marine forces to probe enemy positions and identify weak points and any target with strategic value. Once identified, a preliminary bombardment to weaken the enemy lines is made followed by a complete and overwhelming assault. They may use Drop Pods, Storm Ravens, or teleportation to make these attacks, and the assaulting forces are often a mix of Tactical and Terminator Veterans.

Every warrior of the chapter also owns a "faca", a large-bladed fighting and utility knife, occasionally used to settle arguments "of honor". In these situations two warriors will attack with slashing attacks to the face, stopping the fight when one of the participants could no longer see clearly as the result of blood seeping from one or more facial cuts.

The gene-seed of the Grey Talons appeared to be stable and displays no aberration or mutation.

This will be the start of my Primaris force of my Grey Talons.
I have finally decided chapter symbol ,colours, and base lore.
A bit of Fan fiction to keep things fresh!

Aernus stood at the edge of the precipice.
His eyes were close, and he took a deep breath, welcoming the cold sea air.
At a distance the shouts and screams were drowned by the roaring sound of the waves and wind.

"I see that your head is still on your shoulders! I would expect it to be adorning a Warboss pole by now!"

Aernus smirked.

"And I see you still have that terrible sense of humour" he answered.

Aernus turned to face the new arrival.
He was broad and tall, even for an astartes.
His mischievous blues eyes were highlighted by his dark skin, his genetic legacy from the southern jungles, from where his tribe originated.

"Arco, it has been a long time..."

"Yes it has Brother, yes it has..."

Arco extended his hand and clasped Aernus foreharm.

"Although you are late brother"

"The return trough the underworld was slow, it's currents treacherous. Neto's light could barely be seen..."

Aernus turned back to the sea taking another deep breath.

"How many?" Aernus asked is gazed fixed in the distant horizon.

"2 from your tribe, 19 total."

"Not a bad Ascension."

" No, it's not, but the tribal wars were particularly... brutal...and the Sli An Chroi are worried about blood cults..."

Aernus gave no answer.
If corruption was found whole tribes would be purged, and the chapter recruitment would suffer.

"Worry not brother.
The Great Maw influence runs long, it even reached us here at the edge of the galaxy... But
Winter will cool down the fires of war and the chapter has supplied food and drink to the tribes to avoid raiding for the time being."

"An unusual decision..."

Arco laughted.

"Well it seems to me we are living in unusual times.
Worry not brother, the festivities are close to finished, and it's a long way to the "Hearth". I'm curious to know about your hunt I'm the eastern fringes, I even got you some firewater for the trip! To keep us warm!"

Aernus smiled and started moving towards the village.
" Well let's go then, best not keep Lord Endovel waiting."

" I hope you put a good word for me with Endovel" said Arco, accompanying him.

Now it was the time for Aernus to laugh.

"Yes brother Arco, I asked the Wolves for a skald just to sing your deeds to our Lord ."

Arco gave out a booming laugh and slapped Aernus on the shoulder.
" Ah I would like that! That and one of their axes!"

" I'm not surprised, you were always one for flamboyance." Said Aernus slyly.

Arco now laughed with tears on his eyes.
Not a common sight for a Space Marine, but Arco was anything but common.
He was still laughing when they passed by the village

After slacking for months, I will resume my work on these dudes.

Since one of my good friends is joining the hobby ( as a filthy Tau Xeno) and interested in Heralds of Ruin kill team, I shall make a small kill team aswell.

So dudes, im here chilling during my Holidays and im thinking which chapter is more adept at guerrila warfare?

Raven Guard? White Scars?

I always tried to inspire this chapter in the Lusitanni tribe but im having a bit of trouble choosing CT for my games...

I think there is a disconnect between the fluff and table in this regard.  My impression is the Raptors are "the best" - but by the current rules you *must* use Lias Issadon to use Raptor CT and that is limiting to a degree.  The back-up would be RG.  To me, the RG are fast to get in (Drop Pod, Land Speeder, Jump Pack units), but then duke it out in order to control or dominate the area.

Now if "guerilla warefare" involved hit-and-run quick strikes (in an out or your next jobs free), then White Scars have amazing Formations to this role. RG have a few to fit this role as well, but not like the WS.

In my humble opinion.

Admittedly, I'm considering building an alternate RG army that is bike-centric to use the WS rules.  I think it would look good: less flashy than Ravenwing and not white, while also allowing me more options for games.

EDIT - I digress, have you got paint on your Grey Talons?

Ah not yet.

Had my weeding last week and time has been short these last couple of months

Im thinking similar to RG, Black but with bronze aquila and grey chapter symbol. Im using the red talons shoulder pads from DW.

But still not sure tbh.

So with these dudes basically done, I started brainstorming on some dudes inspired ony favourite SM Legion. And no it's not IF! Gasp!

Since there are no proper Knightly Bits for my Crimson Knights I'm going for a Vannila look.

Hence the Exemplars.

Now I just found that there is an Exemplars chapter.

Eh. And Marines Exemplars with a cool colour scheme and ugly symbol.

So after a long time of indecision, I finally decided where I want to go with them.

I have settled for Celtiberian inspired chapter.

Instead of going all furry tribal, I choose to go for a more clean look, a few tokens and symbols, maybe a pelt or 2 on the officers.

The chapter symbol will be a white dragon (if the chapter transfers I ordered from Chapter Costumizer are of quality) if not it will be the DW Talon shoulder pad.

I would prefer the dragon because Portugal in ancient times was called Ophiussa, land of snakes or dragons, (and the wyrm/dragon is a symbol of Portugal). And dragons have Talons.

For this reason the right vambrace of the Marines up to the elbow will be Grey.

The right hand (if you aren't a left handed mutant :P) most frequently represents the ownership, power, or control that its possessor (either an individual or a people) exercises.

On the opposite shoulder pad I choose to go for a white lambda (or devastator symbol) because I dig it.

Sargent's will have a golden wrist on the right hand and Officers will have a grey Helmet with personalized red warpaint.

Company colours will be on the left knee and back of the power pack on the circle thingy.

No squad designation.

Every warrior of the chapter sports a braid.

No it's not because of dotraki :P

Suebians used a knot to distinguish themselves as warriors, and that was my inspiration. A braid is easier to get from the SW kits, so I went with it.
