Personally, it just makes me cringe and honestly a bit angry. It makes no sense. "Green tide" perfect sense for orks "Silver tide" perfect sense for necrons "Pink tide"? ...is this just a reference because theyre girls? Because that is utterly unimaginative and frankly is screaming for feminist 40k (lets not get into it) to start frothing at the mouth. robofish7591 Posted December 26, 2018 Share Posted December 26, 2018 The only time I have seen "pink tide" referenced was somebody's list on dakkadakka where they claimed that you could use vessels and acts of faith to consolidate and pile in without actually being in combat. As for the term "pink tide", I'm pretty sure it was named that just because they are girls. Its pretty ridiculous, and I hope the term doesn't stick.... especially if we get a bunch of new players when the new models and codex drop. Not like all orks are canonically green or all necrons are silver. plus theres the added layer of humor to be found with all the "tide" named things in tau lists so when something in there is really good you could ironically refer to single unit with the "tide" meme and imply the strength of a whole army. seems the whole thing is unimaginative by design so I don't see why this is a sore bit. but to devote a touch of thought to it I still think it's pretty alright. The thing is <color> "tide"; So what colors make up the SoB. Our Martyred Lady is the most well known and their primary is black. "Black Tide"? well if your having problems with pink relating to girls im sure you'll have problems with that one, but on a practical level there are also more popular armies that more centrally revolve around the color black in their scheme, the biggest that come to mind are Black Templars and Deathwatch. So would "black tide" be deathwatch, BT, or Sob OooML? unclear so try another color. "White Tide" same racial undertones, different spectrum. and practically speaking - White Scars, i mean its even in their name. "Red Tide" I'm starting to get why tide became the thing; these subliminal meanings are getting funny the more I think about them. and again practically speaking - Blood Angels, or Emperor forbid even the clepto Ravens. But what does the whole Imperium army roster have in common (sans SoS, OoOoO 3 units based off a single sprue OoOoO ) that it doesn't share with SoB? Girls. Lots of girls. Now it's no secret that the archaic tradition is to present a baby in a colored blanket to the mom and while its at the hospital. Partly old traditions, partly practical for the nurses who have to watch 20+ babies at a time, but that's a different discussion, fact is blue is associated with boy babies pink with girls. so with the context of 40k in mind, someone says "pink tide" a normal person thinks "Sisters of Battle" . A perverted person thinks of their fantasy weekend in Las Vegas. and a chaos player thinks of Horrors. all in all that sounds like a pretty balanced meme that can stand the test of the ages with just enough ambiguity to be controversial to snowflakes but to pretty reasonable upon closer inspection. But for what its worth ive l literally never heard "pink tide" before. "silver tide" once or twice but definitely no pink tides yet. on a whole it doesn't sound very catchy, even if it was widely used I doubt it would last. The types of people who follow along these trends seem to prefer more hyperbolic sentiments in their colloquial references, the fact "Bolter Bitches" has been popular since the dawn of time I think is pretty evident of that. Drider Posted December 26, 2018 Share Posted December 26, 2018 Pink Tide or White Tide came about at the end of 7th when thanks to bad wording in Codex Imperial agents that allowed you to take a single unit of up to 100 Arco-flagerants/deathcult assasins/crusaders in a single unit. The term was coined <insert prefix(usually a colour)>-Tide after the the Ork Green Tide formation and was used to represent a force consisting of mass infantry. Green Tide because Ork skin colour. Silver Tide because Necrons 'skin' colour. White Tide because skin colour/purity of faith. Pink Tide because skin colour. Stuff like this isn't anything new to gamers. We're unimaginative and if something sounds catchy a prefix or a suffix is changed to represent a new composition. Just look at some of these WoW arena team composition names: Cleave African Turtle Cleave Beast Cleave Hitler Cleave Kung Fu Cleave Lumberjack Cleave Mancleave Rob Reiner Cleave Stalin Cleave Wizard cleave http://et.worldofwarcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Cleave_(arena_term) My 2 pence on the subject is, I kinda like the term 'Tide of Faith' but it's a bit of a mouth full... GW seem to have gone out of their way to encourage horde play for sisters (they wanna sell models after all and MSU doesnt sell as much models). Its the "pink" i dislike the most. Probably because its my own trigger word. Something about that colour genuinely angers me. Hate it so much.
