Hello All,

Considering the fact im jumping from 4 armies ( Deathwatch, Blood Angels, Astra Militarum and Custodes) along with random building of models. I have decided to start a WIP thread. Started with Deathwatch in March since a long hiatus ( I think i was 14 in 3rd of 4th edition ) I have accumulated nothing but grey models since i love building more than anything. Recently acquired an airbrush that has sparked my desire to paint. So from now on I will pretty much be updating from here then maybe in the other forums. Either way enough jibber jabbing. Here is some of my works in progress.... these in line to be painted however I am currently working on DW troops as of now. Hopefully you enjoy. You can check out my kitbashed work on other threads or Instagram @mad.hattenstein. Appreciate your time of reading this introduction of a thread that i hope to build up. :smile.:

I appreciate the love guys and i will try to keep you updated as much as i can.

As of now i hit a dilemma when it comes to deathwatch. Stumbled across a problem that im curious anyone has come across. I kitbashed every model for my 3 troop choices but find it hard to keep to a color scheme of about 4 colors when each one has its own armor without dulling them down. I used a couple of deathwatch torsos but they are widely spread out. Any suggestions on how to go about color schemes without dulling them down.

Started painting a DW unit using an airbrush, however my generic brush that came with the kit is pretty bleh, chokes up after a min and constantly spurting out specs.

gallery_105646_14362_190243.jpg

so kept it as an primer, base coat and did what i could as far as zenithal highlights.

gallery_105646_14362_285233.jpg

After highlights i needed to add some color. Didnt want basic black power armor that relied more on edge highlighting so i did a very thin wash to give it some color. Nuln oil / vallejo black grey / vallejo perussian blue mix.

- now i got figure out what colors other than silver and gold that would go with this color.

Also built a blood angels Lieutenant that went up for sale.

Bringing in the new year with a new model I wanted to bring alive after it was in the graveyard for a second. That can be a space marine captain or watch master. Tend to make the model as universal as possible if im putting them up for sale or something.

- SN: dont you hate when you notice something after you take and post pics, have to go back and fix some small blemishes -

Also created a Blood Angels Librarian with Jump Pack. It was for personal use, but I think I can set the bar higher for myself and had been crossed between recreating Mephiston or really going in on a librarian without making it over the top like i have before.

As far as that, waiting to model up some company veterans for my BA, and finish painting these DW. (wanted to wait for my airbrush pieces to get in and im also still trying to find a color scheme to go with these guys)

Doing A KitBashed Wolf Lord with Jump Pack as a celebration on my IG (@mad.hattenstein) currently building with the load out of Thunder Hammer / Stormbolter and went to building, however i came across a slight problem with working with the chest. Im not too sure what to do with his chest to represent that he is a wolf lord, or atleast show that he is.

Here he his as of now

gallery_105646_15131_260794.jpg

gallery_105646_15131_194161.jpg

Now when it comes to him, im really thinking about trying my skills at green stuff and just do some alternatives

gallery_105646_15131_297984.jpg

Currently not fond of what I did with the chest, so thats more than likely coming off, thinking about sculpting that in, green stuffing hair on him, and then i have one cyber wolf foot that im thinking of making it a bionic leg to match his bionic arm, could be left or right, not fully sure.

Is there any other suggestions you guys might have to make him look the part as wolf lord, I am pretty open.

Thanks,

Absolutely amazing work, brother:thumbsup:  Looking forward to seeing them again with some paint slapped on them...…. hope they  don't burn out my eyes with blazing glory:wink:

appreciate that good sir. When it comes to painting only my personal models will be painted there are a few on here that were meant to be sold just as, because I like to build and see them come to life through other peoples eyes ( and im still learning to paint / airbrush miniatures )

How do they move without stabbing themselves?

Its sheathed, but i had saw alot of dope models that had put that piece in the front when i believe it was meant as a back piece. But i had another piece that would have called for more accesorries to hide the gaps that were created for fitting. But the thing that baffles me is the shields on the shoulder pads. For the life of me i have put them on and it just didnt feel right

Decided to primaris scale my vets since i had a stockpile for creating a kill team in my DW detachment. Needed to keep my troops simple to help keep a color scheme together so wasnt too hard breaking down my old troops to put onto new troops. Last pic is the sergeant of my second squad.

Deathwatch Watch Captain, pretty fun build for a saturday night. Had to make a new one when i broke down my first one. Wanted to make him a serious trophy hunter like my watchmaster was, but found myself going to more of a high ranking appeal. Might use the head from the first one but eh who knows. Thought about giving him a combi weapon, but thought of getting the most use out of bane bolts but not sure. Got some cleaning up to do with him and feel the need to throw purity seals on him as well, but hope ya like.

The skull mask makes me think your new model is that of a Chaplain. Was he one, before circumstances elevated him to the rank of Captain? Or is that the skull mask he wore as a Primaris Reiver, retained so the Captain may continue to terrorize his foes?

My deathwatch detachment are a clan of yaujta themed (movie: predator concept) warriors that thrive for the hunt and collect trophies. I needed something intimidating, due to the "clean" look and the iconography of the inquisition. So yes on order to maintain that concept he got the skull helmet. And not to mention I spent 25 bucks to get that model and every part of him needed to be usef. :D

You, sir or madam, are exceedingly gifted at kit bashing Space Marines. Excellent work, and I especially love the Captain with the guardian spear.

Its sir, and thank you very much. Space marines are rather easy and parts are in abundance. I want to get into doing Orks, particularly a large warboss, then maybe chaos to really dive into the madness. I have attempted to do militarum but that requires more shopping around and investment to create something unique as well as tau and eldar when they have limited factions. But ill eventually get into working in different fields. So stay tuned. :D

2nd batch of primaris scaled veterans were built today to accompany my watchmaster , these were just as fun to build as the first ones, took a min to figure out my load outs (not a particular fan of the tedious task of magnetizing, and just havent found the full need for it yet). Have one more full squad of deepstriking vets to do, then putting death watch legs on my stalker bolter vets and will eventually either sell off the old marine leg bitz in a bitz bag with all the other smaller marine parts or I might just build some things for fun and sell them off, not sure what will help with my hobby income but we will see. Got a lil bit of cleaning up to do with them, then its off to paint with this bit of time on my hands

  • 1 month later...

Been over a month since i posted. I have done a couple of models during the hiatus, but will save them for later. Only because i have a project that ... guess what ... doesnt deal with space marines!!! Lol. So here it goes.

Started off back last year when i wanted to make a loyal 32 with deathwatch when i first kick back into 40k. I never really liked the cadian models so i chose to make them guevesa. Due to impatience (cutting 30 pairs of boots and trying to match the tau legs was very tedious) i aborted that project sold that off and started new

2nd try i came across dreamforge rilemen. They were really dope and started the project, posted pictures and someone said they were out of production tried to contact the maker but no respone. So that project was scrapped

Which starts the 3rd attempt (the charm) that was sparked when i saw someone use stormcast heads on genestealer bodies and round the same time started thinking about doing rusty 17. So with these ideas on place i did a fusion ha and created the idea of an private army under the inquisition that are tech savy due to having their own funding and trading. Thus creating my regiment of Xeno Hunters (havent camebuo with a name yet).

gallery_105646_15131_60201.jpg

This was also inspired by someone who posted on a kitbash page of genestealer with skitarii cloaks. But i wanted something just different. More so highly skilled soldiers usually hunting down xenos, having a contract with an ordo xeno inquisitor. Being a fan of death eaters (harry potter) i incorporated stormcast heads. They just have an appeal that i dig.

gallery_105646_15131_67373.jpg

Not gonna lie. This concept was a bit expensive but by not much. Kitbashing troops will always be a little more than stock, but not forgeworld hehe (us)

This is also a very tedious process but not as annoying as matching boots. Alot of cutting to get the legs into ranger cloaks and match well at the waist. Like ALOT

gallery_105646_15131_56273.jpg

Like i said i wanted to show theat they were a bit more advance in tech and their weapons show it. For 1, lasgun bits are unnecessary expensive. And i wasnt gonna spend 30+ for 3 squads. So modified pulse carbines, wanted to do blaster but they way ebay seller inventories were. I settled and make due. I know they have only like 3 fingers and a thumb. Didnt mind, and to be even more rebellious, threw cadian arms in there too.

gallery_105646_15131_32663.jpg

To keep with the lore when it came to a mortar team, i decided i wanted to do drones toting the weapon. They are not basic troops, so their tactics and tools would be a little different. Drones just came in so i havent had time to build them yet. But i did build a drone controller.

Well that is that after a month of not posting i hope i didnt disappoint. Some models need filling and i need to get rid of those GSC symbols but dont know what to replace it with. Up for suggestions.
