More new releases from the Open Day

Just got an email through from GW linking to a preview of new models. To my delight there's lots more Cult stuff that hasn't been previewed yet.

Warhammer Community Article

First up we've got a release video, which isn't on YouTube yet so I can't embed it here.

Then we've got some new characters.

An Assassin, complete with NVG wearing Familiar (I'm hoping our Familiar's become like Nurglings, adding more character to the models).

NYOpendayReveals-Jan5-CultSanctus6nfe.jp

A Lady Magus who I think will be a named character.

NYOpendayReveals-Jan5-CultMagus4kjbfh.jp

A ... Ok, I have no idea what this guy is. He looks like a religious figure.

NYOpendayReveals-Jan5-CultLocus3tcerg.jp

This guy is described as a vox-hacking technician.

NYOpendayReveals-Jan5-CultClamavus5jvrh.

It's also confirmed that the bikers are known as Atalan Jackals, while the bike mounted sniper is a/the Jackal Alphus.

We've got a terrain piece called a Tectonic Fragdrill, so we can go looking for that sweet black gold.

An image of lots of Cult stuff together, which includes a couple of previously un-shown sculpts for the Jackals.

And finally, the section on GSC ends with this

True to form, some new Genestealer Cults are hidden, to be revealed at a later date from where you least expect it – so stay tuned…

So there's still more to come. It's really beginning to look like GSC are getting the full Codex treatment like Death Guard.

Edit: From re-watching the video there's a medic guy with a staff and what looks like a lighter vehicle, similar to a Goliath but smaller and with a different armament. I still can't get the damn thing to embed though.

The Gunslinger is confirmed as a Kelermorph. He's a Kill Team release though, not 40k, so while he comes with rules for both games he's only available in a Kill Team box set alongside some Accolytes and terrain.

There was a mention of "early 2019" in the video so I'm assuming that means Q1, i.e. any time between now and the end of March. Whatever the case I love these new releases, the Lady Magus especially. Gorgeous model. Slightly reminiscent of Yvraine.

Super excited to see how this all fits together, seems like we are gonna have a very different army from the 'one trick' ambush army so far.

Particularly character assassination, between the sniper biker, gunslinger and assassin model.

Have any theories materialised on what the drill will do?

I'm gunna guess late Feb, but hope for earlier. I really love the Vox-Hacker and Chirurgeon, but am excited for all the characters. I've currently got the overkill set, Insurrection set, Tooth and Claw set, and 20 more acolytes. The bikes will be a great unit to place on the field during deployment, and I really like the idea of all these assassin type units it seems we're getting

word from the open day is that it "causes earthquakes" and also allows some kind of redeployment.  how the two are connected is not yet clear.

here's the rest, from the gsc group on facebook:

So I was at GW HQ yesterday and whilst I wasn't allowed(!) to actually look at the codex, I got sooo close!

Found out a few bits though (this guy was particularly tight lipped, but others there were more sharing).

Here's what I found out -

* We'll have a weird "blip" system for deployment, like motion detector marks, where we can choose which is what unit when we reveal them (not necessarily on the first turn).

* The map guy allows us to move these markers.

* The gun slinger allows us to reroll misses once he's killed someone.

* The loud speaker guy stops enemy deepstrikers coming down within 12" of him.

* The sniper bike is HQ, the Female Magus is just an alternative Magus model. The other characters are Elite (although not sure).

* Astra Millitarum detachments can be taken, but don't contribute as many (or any?) Command Points, don't get Regimental bonuses, but do get +1 Ld. No AM named characters allowed.

* Baneblades and equivalent can be taken.

* There will be 6 Cult "Cults" with there own rules (like Chapter Tactics/Hive Fleets). This includes Bladed Cog and Pauper Princes.

* There is still one version of Patriarch, but between 6 pychic powers, warlord traits and heirlooms he'll be customisable. One Patriarch per detachment.

* The big frag drill terrain will allow us to cause earthquakes.

Not too sure that blip set up means, could it be like a template where there's set positions that units can come out of? That sounds very interesting. Being able to deny an area of the board with the vox guy is very interesting, against certain armies that's almost an auto-include

The optimist in me says Late January but the realist says Feb/late Feb especially if they haven't revealed everything yet

My thoughts as well. February more than likely.

The blip set up sounds WAY more interesting then just half the army deepstriking. Alot of potential there!!!

Could still be half the army sets up by blip. Still sounds very good as long as enemies can't just sit on our blips to Deny us coming in...

Does this mean CA as we know it is gone?

I think this could be CA gone but this could be something else entirely. If this is as fun and interesting as it sounds I really won't mind if they're not top tier.

On another note I wonder what else the vox guy can do? A 12" bubble is nice but that's only applicable for 2 turns, maybe he could do something similar to the drukhari strategems of denying an enemy strategem? Like a Vox overload or something. Otherwise I don't really see him doing much. And what about the hooded maul guy? Maybe another melee focused model but more hard hitting than the Primus?

Fun is want I meant by very good! I'd really like the idea of initially just deploying blips, it actually kinda sounds like the genestealers in space hulk...

Looks like a few similarities to Drukhari already and maybe the GSC will be the new disruption force

From how a lot of mechanics work, GW really doesn't like alpha strikes. I can defintly see them moving away from the cult ambush as it is now, I'd be all for that. All these new models are absoltly fantastic. I cannot wait to see what the codex brings.

I agree, but I do think we'll get something close to stealth suits and the like where we can scout move up the board, maybe something to do with the blips? I imagine from what they said about "taking GSC into consideration with the codex" from chapter approved, I still think we'll get something to boost everything up the board early

My hope would be we get something like a 'waved assault' so not just everything shows up in a 1 turn alpha strike and instead we can bring units in progressively
