Lore Question for Sorcerors

So, It looks like since the Rubric Marines and Scarab Terminators are just suits, they can probably be brought back through magic instead of being replaced by recruits right?

However, what about the sorcerors? How do they make more sorcerors? Do they recruit them from the cultists? Do they need gene-seed, or do they use their warp magic to convert them to Space Marine Sorcerors? It sounds like this is a very resource-intensive venture.

Or ... are the sorcerors wisked away by the warp when they die, so they can come back later?

It’s a good question but not easy to answer.

All we really have to go on is what GW gives us and we make the rest up.

I have to believe a rage number of them are still alive. They were very powerful and history tells us they’re pretty good at laying low or working with various war bands when the need arises.

I do think it’s plausible for recruits to enter but it would be something that seems like a mentorship to me.

I think a good number of the more powerful Sorcs are still alive. Given their prescience and the way they use their troops, I think it’s pretty hard to catch one of these old vets off balance.

Aspiring sorcerers are recruited from cultist or any other human world and can progressivelly ascend to higher ranks.

So Thousand Sons know how to make adults into space marines? Or are the Aspiring Sorcerers not space marines? What about Exalted Sorcerers?

Due to the tiny number of living Thousand Sons they can't really create new Marines normally, and probably don't have an interest in trying anyway. I've always considered "poaching" their main source of new sorcerers but as this isn't likely to be often not too high on their list, so they probably wait for a good candidate or follow some complicated plan to get one  As Prot says the majority of the sorcerers are originals, using their knowledge and powers to survive and prosper (a wall of dusty ceramite probably helps too!).

The codex does cover some of this as Millions mentioned, but keeps some things a mystery to keep us entertained

Knowing the fluff blurb about how TS make new dreadnoughts there might be a pool of potential recruits willing or otherwise and those that have potential and are up to snuff are allowed to become sorcerers and others are used for the legions other needs.

The Thousand Sons have a detailed progression plan; an Aspiring Sorcerer has regular 1 to 1s with a Sorcerer to discuss his progress and cover where he can improve. The same is true for the Sorcerer himself, who reports up the chain to the Exalted. All fastidiously recorded in great tomes, which you can see held on many of the models or sometimes a scroll certificate for outstanding performance or improvement.

Now you know the Son's greatest secret - they're nothing to do with forbidden knowledge or arcane spells :P

It would make sense that those who have the greatest obsession with knowledge would also be gigantic bureaucrats with regular meeting and evaluations and the like.

There is no reason they wouldnt be able to create apace marines. Keep in mind their whole fleet was left intact after Prospero battle, and potentially every ships include geneseed banks:)

Aspiring Sorcerers are definitely Space marines, you can see from their datasheets, S4, T4 etc...

Imagine getting 'selected' by the TSons as new guy and while you think about becoming this badass Marine and thank the gods for not getting selected by some Nurgle warband they tell you about your options ... either you become good enough to become a badass Sorcerer Marine or you become soulless dust in power armour. :D
