The Starfall Princes: 40k Alpha Legion Warband

Recommended Posts

As my previous WiP got purged and I have some new models, I figured I should make a new thread, this time in the WiP section rather than the CSM section. I'll try to include more and more lore and snippets as I go along.

Xenophon, Captain of the 5th Company, 126th Harrow.

The two Alpha Legionnaires stood by the hololithic map, the light reflecting off the serpentine blue armour. One, whom had slightly different markings, had black shoulder pads, the scales of his left shoulder pads glinting in the luminescent light.

"Captain Xenophon, bring the Imperial Truth to this... Cardinal World. Teach them the error of their ways as only us of the Great Crusade can. Do unto them as the Ultramarines did unto the Monarchians.
Xenophon's mouth twisted into a sadistic smirk.
"It will be my pleasure, Harrowmaster. I shall demonstrate to these citizens of the 500 Worlds that the Emperor is not a god, and he certainly shall not be able to save their souls when the 5th make planetfall."

Very nice indeed. I clicked on the thread and the colour immediately stood out making them pop. Fantastic all around conversions but the Hydra is amazing, really great use of parts and it really fits the theme of the army.

Cheers - the Hydra Daemon Prince is from Mierce Miniatures :)

Here you go! Their website is almost, but not quite, as bad as the current codex layout.

I've also got this fellow from Mierce, but I broke a mace and need a replacement before I start on him.

Also added some minor lore to the Warband's history and organisation.

The Starfall Princes

The Starfall Princes is an Alpha Legion Warband descended from the 126th Harrow of the Alpha Legion, the Starfall Princes. Regularly heeding the call of other Alpha Legionnaires, but often seen alongside Warbands of the Thousand Sons, the Sons of Horus, and the Fallen. Additionally, they have also assisted the Red Corsairs in various raids into Realspace.

Warband History
Descended from the 126th Harrow of the Alpha Legion, the Warband is whatever is left of this Harrow after the Horus Heresy.

Warband Homeworld

The Warband has no known homeworld, but during the Great Crusade it is thought they had large intakes of recruits from at least two Feral Worlds. During the later parts of the Great Crusade, there were rumours of impaling their enemies and ritual cannibalism, possibly a result of the cultures that were incorporated into the Harrow.

Warband Organisation

The Warband still retains large parts of its pre-Heresy disposition, however, there have been no confirmed sightings of the 1st Company since the Scouring. Furthermore, due to the Alpha Legion’s secrecy and rather malleable structure, the dispositions described are more than a little unsure. Furthermore, they seem to have eschewed their traditional drop pod assault reminiscent of the Sons of Horus’ Speartip Strike strategy. All of their companies seemed to be larger than normal, alternatively units would change between companies.

The 2nd Company appears to feature more specialist units, like reconnaissance and covert operations units, including the Alpha Legion’s Headhunter units. This company also seems to paint their left shoulder pad bronze, with the meaning of this unknown, but likely to differentiate themselves from the other companies. Their 3rd and 4th Company, likely recruited from Ferald World stock, were standard line companies during the Great Crusade, but the 3rd seems to have undergone considerable changes since then. The 3rd Company shows many more overt signs of physical corruption, including mutation and possession, but are also rarely seen without Daemonic allies. The 4th Company, the Impalers, appear similar to a standard Heresy-era line company, but as their cognomen suggests, they also impale their captives.

The 5th Company is an assault company, featuring large amounts of Assault Squads with and without jump packs, Land Raiders, and Rhinos. They also display black shoulder pads, possibly to denote their assault company status. During the Heresy, they featured units similar to the Palatine Blades of the Emperor’s Children and wielded weapons similar to their Phoenix Spears, as well as specialised boarding shields.

In addition, like the Alpha Legion of old, the Starfall Princes include Sparatoí (Sown men) in their ranks. Their arrival is usually silently heralded by these operatives, whom sabotage and infiltrate planetary defences. The Chaos Cult of the Tabernacle of the Three-Fold Choir on Foriax II is also presumed to be included among the resources that they can draw upon.

Finished a few more CCW Cultists, but I'll probably add some more stuff to their bases. I also finished updating a few PDS soldiers-turned-Cultists.

A lore blurb:
The Chaos Cult of the Tabernacle of the Three-Fold Choir on Foriax II is also presumed to be included among the resources that the Starfall Princes can draw upon. The Tabernacle of the Three-Fold Choir infiltrated both the PDS and several industrial guilds on Foriax II, forming the initial stage of the planet’s rebellion. Fomenting rebellion through insidious guild campaigns for breeding and social rights for the disaffected industrial workers, they also spread to the PDS. When they rebelled against the Imperial Governor, the miners and factorum workers rose up, while the Cult's PDS members turned on their comrades and seized the armouries. This led to the Imperial Governor losing control of the major hives and pleading for aid from any nearby Imperial Guard units.

:censored: you still have the old raptors. I am jealous. I think they are some of the best models ever. The new ones are cool, but why didn't GW reuse the old jump packs?

I've got about 20 of the old ones. I'm currently working on making a 15-man strong Raptor squad. I really love the old jump packs, and I think Kromlech and MaxMini make similar ones!

Weren't there a few failcast raptors? The only advantage of that material is that it is lighter.

Also true - I only have the metal ones and they were massively top heavy. I think the finecast ones would still wobble, I'd weigh them down with a washer if using 25mm bases.

Mmm, raptors! I'd put them on 32mm bases and weigh them down with a washer or something, they have a balance problem!

Aye, they're going on 32mm - I just need to pin them to their new bases and put a coin or something inside!

Maybe, but all of mine are metal!

Some minor updates. I've still got a 3 more arms and jump packs to finish for three, plus fix the pinning for a 4th Raptor, which I'll do along my ETL vow, which is.

1x Venomcrawler

6x Chaos Space Marines (1x chainaxe, 1x plasma pistol, x1 autocannon)

2x Greater Possessed

For a total value of 341 points.

Not my finest highlighting, which I honestly should get better at, but I'm happy with the lenses!

Great update and best of luck on the ETL!

Painted AL and cultists look great. And your highlighting and lenses look spot on. I can barely paint a straight line to save my life.

Thanks! My highlighting there is sub-par. I'm not sure if it's due to the zoom and being able to actually see how bad it is, or if I painted badly due to a poor paint flow or something. It isn't normally that bad.

I just need to clear my backlog of minor projects that need finishing before embarking on ETL. Actually finishing projects gives me a nice fuzzy feeling! You competing?
