Have you invested in Primaris, and if so, how much?

I'm a little late to the party but I bought the Dark Imperium set in 2017. I'm finally getting around to painting it up. Once I get a lot of my backlog done I plan on picking up a Redemptor or a Repulsor to add to my army. I plan on only buying primaris going forward, but I'll use oldmarines in the new army since I have them.

@sfPanzer :

When the Repulsor is on low health and Hull down, it’s a good option to have. -1 can make the difference ;)

Versus the meager damage of Fragstorm and Krakstorm, I like to take that option ;)

@Ishagu :

The Lascannons has a lot of appeal, that’s for sure.

I think the Repulsor needs at least either the Twin or the Talon.

I actually will try with twin Las and heavy onslaught Cannon, actually sacrificing the ability to take down Knights, to put even more pressure on the enemy infantries.

The Primaris have good Dakka, but I’d rather limit the number of guns shooting back my way and play survivability.

Personal play style I guess

Don't do it. Unless Primaris gain a new dedicated anti tank unit the HOC is strictly inferior.

You don't need any additional infantry pressure. A Repulsor still has 30 shots to deal with infantry.

Not really, no. It would be just dead weight then.

When I got back into the hobby at the start of 8th edition (I had sold all my marines years ago), my plan was to start with the Dark Imperium box and slowly build a force of 2000 points.

For now I have

50 Intercessors

12 Inceptors

9 Aggressors

10 Reivers

15 Hellblaster

2 Redemptors

2 Repulsors

plus all the characters, that were included in the 3 DI and 2 TaC boxes and the UM battle force

plus Primaris Apothecary and Librarian

plus

Lysander

5 Terminators

5 Assault Terminators

2 Vindicators

6 Centurions

I almost sticked to my plan :-/

Let's see... I've got:

23 Intercessors

10 Hellblasters

6 Inceptors

3 Aggressors (still boxed)

2 Repulsors

1 ASTRAEUS

and all the HQs from DI.

I've been looking at maybe a 3rd Repulsor and maybe a Redemptor or two. I really enjoy how specialised the infantry of the army are and am looking forward to more additions to the Primaris line-up. As a Blood Angel player I'm especially excited (hopeful) for the day we see Chapter Specific Primaris units.

I actually really like the hybrid build for the Repulsor. Mine is HOGC and Twin Las. I also run hybrid armies of old marines and Primaris. So I'm not too worried about needing the extra 2 las shots.

Sweet Moses, some you folks got A L O T of Intercessors :smile.:

They look awesome, especially with a Power Sword / Fist and a backpack banner on every sergeant. :) They're among my favorite models!

But to be fair, I would not have bought as many if I had to buy every squad separately. But the prices I got the Tooth & Claw and the UM battle force for were so good, even if I threw away the Intercessors that came in these boxes, it would have been a great deal. And the 3rd DI box I recently traded in for my DI Death Guard, as I decided I will not use them anyway.

Let’s agree to disagree here ;)

I definitely follow your logic for the full anti-tank, I don’t dispute that it’s an effective strategy especially for dealing with IKs.

I’m currently trying lists built for infantry superiority. That’s means anti infantry overkill, lots of resilience on the board.

It’s a different philosophy, rather than counter the enemy threats, I’m forcing him to counter me while I punish his units.

It’s a lot of deployment tricks and threat management.

Hard to explain shortly, but in a nutshell, it’s an aggressive play style where you direct where the enemy will shoot at.

And expect to take losses on the sacrificial units.

Example : 1000 pts, 18 Intercessors, 2 Repulsors (x2 for 2k points). 2 empty Repulsors with TwinLas, the HOC and OC and stormbolters pushing up will occupy the enemy guns for about 4 turns. That’s if you don’t play suicidal.

In the mean time, they will deal significant damage to infantry.

They will wipe around 12 MEQ and 7 Primaris a turn.

If the enemy plays defensive, you have board control advantage, while you play defensive with your own infantry.

The rest of your infantry should be relatively fresh to clean up and get objectives.

I won’t try to argue whether or not this is the optimal playstle because there are so many variables involved. I’m making the case that this is a viables playstyle.

I’ve tested this list (with Lastalon) against an IK and Berserkers and that’s not enough to get the Knight without trading both Tanks.

But it took 4 full turns for the IK to finish them off (with me playing dumb).

With smart positioning of the Troops and reasonable objective placement, no way a lone Knight can table this list (or 2 Dakka IK at 2000pts).

After last nights LVO reveal I'm about to invest a whole lot more... I need to sell some stuff I'm never going to build now...

Me too, except for the selling bit.

Well, I was sitting on a new Execution Force game for over a year. I originally bought it for the assassins but don't ever see myself using them so I offloaded that yesterday and made some money. Recently I scored another really good deal on Warhammer Quest Silver Tower, but I bought Descent 2e before my buddy was able to ship that to me and I don't see a need for two fantasy dungeon crawls. So I'm probably going to look to sell that and use the funds to buy the new primaris or blackstone fortress since I can see myself using those.

I've got some other oldmarine stuff that I don't think will be worth the trouble to sell so I'll use those things for conversions and bits. But I think after seeing what is in store for Primaris I'm only buying those going forward.

1 Gravis Captain

1 Chaplain

1 Ancient

2 DI Lieutenants

1 500th store Lieutenant

15 multi-part Intercessors

10 Hellblasters

5 Reivers, but I got them in the KT terrain bundle just because it was a good deal. I haven't built them and will probably just give them to my little brother.

I plan to get the Plasma Pistol + Power fist Captain when it releases at my local GW soon, as well as the standard Captain and a Librarian.

Aside from those HQ's, I don't have any plans to expand my Primaris collection until I see more new units that I like. I don't want to have a "complete" Primaris roster, because I don't want to accumulate for the sake of accumulation. I'm already rather meticulous and a perfectionist, so it is easy for me to fall into that particular vice.

This, combined with the fact that my Primaris will be Emperor's Spears and I have a limited supply of chapter and squad icons to use, has made me impatient to see the upcoming Primaris releases. I want to see where the line is going in order to see what units will fit my small army; because of its small size, I only want to get units/models that I really like.

Once there have been more releases and I have a small Emperor's Spears army I am satisfied with, I will evaluate the Primaris roster and decide if it would be fitting to make my Black Templars a Primaris army.

I've got two redemptor dreads for use in 40k.

Also got 5 Intercessors and 3 (etb) Reivers for use in Kill Team.

Primaris Lieutnant and 3 Aggressors from tooth and nail are collecting dust since I haven't found a use for them yet.

If I get any more primaris at all, It'll probably be a third redemptor dread since I really like the model.

A model I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole is the flying shoebox.

If we're listing it out after the holiday box splurge I have:

1x Gravis Captain
2x Lt
3x Normal Captain
1x Ancient
1x Birthday Captain
1x Misc Sargeant
50 intercessors (10 ultra, 10 DA, 30 crimson fist)
25 hellblasters (5 ultra, 10 DA, 10 crimson fist)
6 aggressors
15 inceptors (6 plasma, 6 bolter, 3 unbuilt)
10 reivers
2 redemptors
1 repulsor

Mostly DI and 3x holiday battleforces.

Got into primaris for my new crimson fist chapter. Most of that is unbuilt. Before that I was using hellblasters in my dark angels castle list and am almost ready to prime my plasma inceptors for dark angels as well. Most of the rest will likely end up crimson fists. Primaris plasma with dark angels 'Weapons of the Dark Age' strategem is pretty dirty with -4 AP and 3 DMG.

I’ve invested into 3 Interdiction forces, a Intercessors unit, a Repulsor and a Inceptors unit.

Loving the models and the kits so far, it’s really great!

Gameplay wise, slightly different story.

They lack in punch and the extra survivability really is good when playing against hordes.

The competitive games I have, I face guys with high Weight of Fire, dmg 2 weapons. These weapons are just the most points effective currently :

- Enough shots to benefit from reroll stratagems

- High variance potential

- Reliable dmg rather than D6

The only 1500pts list that I found really effective so far was :

Outrider Detachment

P. Captain

6 + 3 + 3 Plasma Inceptors

10 + 10 Hellblasters

Even 2 x Intercessors just doesn’t have the damage output of Hellblasters, except maybe in very specific T3 low armor saves situations.

I have a full battle company of Dark Angels. I went with an expanded company like the one showed for the Ultramarines 2nd company in their codex.

As such I went with roughly a 50/50 split. 3 tactical squads and 3 intercessor squads, an inceptor squad, an assault squad, a devastator squad, 2 hellblaster squads (hey lol we're Dark Angels!), etc.

For my company command I have both a command element of regular marines (master, chaplain, librarian, and what was the old 7th edition command squad) I can use, or a primaris command element (master in Gravis armor, chaplain, apothecary, 2 lieutenants, librarian, ancient)

Whether I decide to put my regular marine command element in charge of the company or the primaris element, both of my lieutenants are primaris. I just like their models better.

My company vets are regular marines regardless since I have three different 5 man squads I can switch around.

But in summary I roughly go 50/50. I also have 7.7k worth of Blood Angels new in the box, stored in boxes in my basement for when I want to build them someday, and they are also roughly 50/50.
