Did GW messed up again?

Hi everyone,

As I am reading carefully the rules for the sisters in the CA I have to say that I am not very impressed by what GW did.

Act of faith seems more like crappier and used limited voice of commands.

Also it seems that they took extreme precautions to make the sisters and Ecclesiarchy very separate and

absolutely non interactive to each others.

It is to wonder why they stripped them of the incquisition/agent of imperium codex to add them to the sister if it is to seclude them in such manners

(nearly no stratagem, act of faith or battle forge bonus is affecting them).

So I'm a bit confused by the Ecclesiarchy battle conclave rule

"If your army is battle forged this unit does not take up slots in a detachment that include a Priests"

Then later for matched play rules it is said "A detachment that does not include a Priest can only include one Ecclesiarchy unit"

So if we sum it up that means that either you only take one Ecclesiarchy unit or you have to take a priest and in that case all Ecclesiarchy unit don't take a slot in your army (which  seems to me more like a curse considering how important filling slots in detachments is in this edition).

The other sneaky point is that it seems that if you want to add a small detachment of lets says 2 HQ and 3 elites of Ecclesiarchy in another army

then you can't right? because they don't fill the slots required for the detachment.

So in the end Ecclesiarchy is held captive by a codex that doesn't make them justice and on top of that some rules forbid you to use them as support in another army (I think that's the first time they put so much restrictions on some units). Nice job GW.

Let me know what you think about that, can we use the Ecclesiarchy on it's own as allied detachment now?

You can take a single Ecclesiarchy vanguard consisting of a single missionary and three preachers and then add some battle conclave units. It's basically a 50-75 point tax from the extra preachers (depending on how many/few you wanted). So, not a great option, but it is possible.

The original 'sisters of battle' codex in 2nd ed was actually the ecclesiarchy codex, the sisters were just the highlight. Half the codex was priests and their followers.

This continued through into the 3rd ed chapter approved codex but the priesthood element was stripped back when the sisters were folded in with the inquisition. GW undiscontinued a couple of the old characters for the white dwarf codex but in terms of new content they are only just starting to creep back into the game now - I have hopes that when necromunda gets back to the redemptionists the priesthood will get filled back out to a more capable force.

Detachment I’ve contemplated is Celestine leading Pious Vorne, a blob of flagellants and either a hospitallier or dialogus. Which isn’t really what you’re on about, in so far as it doesn’t decouple the freak show stuff from the sisters.

Mostly it was my scratching my head as to how to get Vorne on the table without breaking order. The other version was a missionary leading three penetant engines, but I hold off in anticipation of plastics PE’s.

So, no min battalions without sisters, but arguably a couple sisterless detachments are available.

I find slotlessness a funny thing in this edition. For years it was a small advantage, but now people look at it as a liability. I think it may be an artifact of them separating into discrete units things that used to be welded into one. It’s related to splintering off the Gemini. Or the break up of marine command squads.

I think there’s a credible chance we’ll see the return of Frateris Militia in the next few years, and that’ll be the foundation of the option you’re looking for.
