ETL Building Incentive?

Dracos

Recommended Posts

So .... It's been a while since anyone ran a modelling incentive for the Sons or Corax and with ETL coming up (yeah I failed much to my chagrin) I think it's time we started an incentive program :)

I haven't ran anything like this before and I'm not tech savvy enough to create banners and such but I got something in mind that might be of interest .... but that's what I want to check on first.

Can I get a show of hands of any Brothers wanting to participate in this? I still have 2 Xiphons and a RG Contemptor that need assembled and "primered" to ETL standards. I won't be participating but will hold myslef accountable to getting all three up to pre ETL readiness and that's what I'm looking for here.

Anyone interested? If so I'll layout the "standard" (basically ETL ready) and the incentive I plan on donating to the Brother the most ready in say a 30 (?) day time period. ANY suggestions for this are appreciated.

Something "official" for what I'm already doing?  YAAS :woot:

So, wait for the other thread or start posting ideas here?

As for running an event on the B+C, it's really what is put in that determines the "work".  Would you like this put onto the B+C calendar?  If so, we'll need date range.

As for images, I use MS Paint because I'm not savvy enough otherwise :unsure.:.  In other instances I've recruited help.

In don’t know anything about putting it into B+C calendar but it sounds like good ideal. I wanted to run ideas past you guys first to see if it was a thing that made sense.

Itvyper your following correctly. The idea is to follow the pre-ETL rules as far as prep. Not just the pieces off the spues mind you but put together as much as possible (obviously some of us paint as we assemble) and primer (painted) as much as possible of pieces that are assembled or ready to paint and assemble

Does that make sense ? Any suggestions on improving these ideas is greatly welcome. If someone could figure out a badge for the participants I ha e some older Marine models that aren’t Primaris I’ll never use that I’d like to donate to the cause.

We could make February Month of the Raven ?

I like MajorNeese thoughts on taking a breath before starting (mostly to address and other good ideas we might share). Last year we started May 1st.

With that in mind, I’d like to sponsor “Dawn of Shadows” from April 15 through March 29.

Race Banner: is this appropriate enough time to put on the BC calendar and are there any suggestions to make this a better event? Also while I have a incentive ready for the most productive of us, I’d really appreciate the name of someone who might make us a badge of honor just for completing a pre-ETL vow. I would compensate said individual with something from my pile of shame if that is appropriate.

Thoughts I’ve had so far

I know we all have things we are working on but I figure it’s fair to keep this with each of us starting off fresh. So I think like ETL we should start our Vows with either fresh box, on sprue or at most unassembled models. Does that sound fair.

This is a link to last years rules.

The following is the part of the rules we will need to make sure are being followed for this event

Don’t get a head start

Another point (that is actually part of the official rules) is that it is expected that you start work on your entries AFTER you submitted your vows and not before. Models can be assembled and primed but that’s it. If someone was not aware that the ETL was coming and he/she has applied a base colour on a few minis in a squad I’ll probably let it slide but generally speaking nothing should be entered if it is worked on above primer level. I have limited ability to police this (I do have some) but it is expected, and I’m stating the obvious here, that people will not cheat. If you’ve started work on something before the ETL then it is not a legitimate entry (unless it is presented as out-of-competition

To Address a question you had earlier Race. Yes I’ll start a separate thread for this either once we have it ready to go for the BC calendar or have buffed out any rough edges or other mis-steps I might have taken in putting my foot forward starting this ;)

My goal is just to have some fun sharing our project preparations for this year ETL. I totally was a duck in a tarpit (hobby and life wise) last year but am totally excited about the coming year and I suppose trying to “atone” for my failure to Corax by being smarter and better prepared this year. :)

The ETL in 2018 officially started May 1st.  So this event would certainly allow time to purchase/build/prime before then.  The trick, I think is that what is prepared here would not necessarily be needed for the ETL.  I mean, that marriage would be up to each person (which is what I would do personally).

SO, copying the ETL rule for this event would be a good idea, I think.

Having said that, I think we should allow for some steam to build up as well as give people time to purchase their stuff.  How about we "plan" and advertise the event within February and kick it off in March ... March Madness?  Then give time to build/prime for ... 6 weeks?  That would have this event end mid April for a two week breather before the ETL (and that's if the ETL starts in the same date as last year).

EDIT - heck, we might be able to start on Feb 15 (post Valentines may get some a gift :P) and have a 2-month building spree!

Thoughts?

MajorNese again appreciate the idea of giving this sometime to ramp up. As my signature attest to I have a potential to bite off more than I'm ready to chew occasionally :smile.:

Thanks Race, I really appreciate your insights. I have good feeling about all those ideas. Lets take a couple weeks and give everyone a minute to get on board and ready to grab what we all need to start. (I have no clue what I was thinking with those dates in the post above lol) March sounds like an excellent start date.

While my thoughts are this is primarily intended to get us motivated to prep for ETL 2019, that we the Sons of Corax shall always operate within the Shadows and not all things are for the purview of others, therefore the Imperium has no need to know the Raptors have captured a Shadowsword, or the Carcharodons have allied with a unknown Knight House.

Please let me know how we get this up and advertised. I think the title and event dates should work. Anyone else with thoughts are going to be greatly appreciated.  I'll keep plugging away at this also.

This. It might be fitting for ETL (to not lose ETL painting time), but hobby progress and tackling the Pile of Shame can't be a bad thing.

Sounds good. Enough time to wrap up open projects, and more time for the ETL building. It's not like we're trying to set a new speed record anyway. Starting a bit earlier than March won't hurt, especially with conversions and the like.

I love the idea but probably won't get to participate too much. I have a ton of marines primes that are ready for paint that I'm forcing myself to get done.

The other issue is I really want a reiver and intercessor squad and have a few of each model already done for my kill team...

I do need a Spectral Sicarii jump captain so maybe this will motivate me to get on that and finish him up...

Its all for fun and when it comes to ETL I'm living proof small bites are the way to go if you're crunched. Better one Chaplain than nothing. :whistling:

Yeah that's my not subtle way of hoping to see a Spectral Sicarii Chaplain someday ;)

I can help with signature banners/pips, let me know

God Emperor yes, absolutely :)  I started image googling purity seals last night for ideas. Any thoughts, I'm all ears.

For my timetable to add up, it's probably just one model. Maybe some decoration marines/quad too.

Are sub-assemblies okay? I'll have to leave the interior of the Mastodon accessible for painting and adding marines/gear, I guess that leaves me at 2 halves plus the roof.

I've thought about that, and my initial thought is this. The goal here is to encourage us to be prepped as possible for ETL. So yeah, I think there should be some reasonable way ... for some overachievers ;) who (as a random example) like to paint the interior of their vehicles to count as "complete" for our pre-vow vows :)

This is a good idea but I'm already way ahead of myself on the assembly front. My entire battle company and most of the expansions (CAD or formation) are built and primed. In fact in the meantime I assembled a Dark Angel army for the most part and now I'm assembling both the Death Guard and scenery from Conquest magazine and a Revilers Pinion demi-company with a Shadowstrike Kill Team which is all infantry with  a lot of scouts.

So.. I could assemble something.

But I also need to finish my allied Fallen Angel contingent before the next ETL, as I made a vow to Captain Semper to complete them or else be forced to paint Dark Angels during the ETL. There are only 12 models to paint but if I get them done along with some other stuff then some assembly will be done. I got a Storm Raven for Christmas by the way..

So the trick for you as I see it ;) Is that by vowing to finish your DA for this event ... it allows you to then vow to pledge toward the Space Marines during ETL ... which is what this is all about ;)

No one can accuse the Sons of Corax of not having plans within plans striking from the Shadows at a confused enemy. Just don’t be a Scion of Alpharius and we’re good ;)

There are good Alpha Legion? It sounds like the usual denialist propaganda machine is in overdrive.

Excellent. If I can paint the Fallen I'll have to paint at least as many unfinished Raven Guard Successors so it can be more like ETL, where you have to pledge one Astartes unit for every other allied unit.

Maybe the painting could apply to others if MajorNese needs to finish his Mastodon or other allies.

Also I've got a spare Primaris librarian from Conquest I could throw into the prize pot, so that the winner can choose Primaris/ non Primaris prize and the runner up can get the other prize. In 3 weeks there will be a Redemptor dread too if my newsagent gets me both issues.
