Ultimate Telemon build /choppy

Recommended Posts

I bought 2 fists and one of each gun

For RoC I'll generally be rocking the dual fists (slightly bummed at the plasma flamer adjustment but warranted and made them significantly cheaper)

I can see argument for the dual guns though

The Telemon with duel storm cannons is one of the most consistent damage output for the PDF.  As the static damage value and the re-roll against vehicles plus the 72" range it is hard to pass up.  Hitting on 2s and wounding on 3s plus a re-roll vs vehicles at -4AP you might be seeing 9 to 12 damage a turn being common thing.  Sure some units have invulnerable saves but this is a really solid choice.

The problem with the Iliastus accelerator is that it is straight up worse than the Calladius' version of the same gun. The jump from strength 7 to 8 is a really big deal as is the massive increase in range from 36" to 60". Interestingly, the exact opposite is true with the Arachnus. The Arachnus on the Telemon has more shots and is a much higher range than the Arachnus on the Calladius.

So we have a small group very vocal people on FB that are just claiming the Telemon is just crap.  Black Orange it is a person that had responded to your blog post link so you have an idea of who I'm talking about.

I see the use as consistent game as these people part of the group that just wants it broken or upset that the damage output went down?  Seeing complaints that a max of 12 damage a turn is bad makes me wonder if we are playing different games.

Balordazul - A lot of times when I am reading posts I also often wonder if I am playing the same game as the posters.

Dear god I was asking myself this same question.

Edit: Back on topic!

What about the Iliastus accelerator culverin?

They are 62.5% of the cost of the storm cannons but would you ever take them?  They are technically the cheapest option to get this guy on the table top.  If you consider them so bad that you would not take them what feedback would you give GW?

25 points is fairly cheap for me but I'm having a hard time not spending the points on the storm cannons and getting extra shots more range and a alt fire mode.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider the Iliastus unless it was strength 8 like it used to be. It either needs S8 or more shots. As it is, it has less shots and a lower strength than it used to.

I deeply agree. The big nerf to iliastus is the worst thing of the BETA. Now, according with mathhammer iliastus is ALWAYS worst respect the storm cannon. Probably they sold enough iliastus :D

I have two Telemon dreads. One is build and painted with a Arachnus Storm Cannon. Additionally I've build a second one. One arm fixed with a Caestus and the other one is magnetized with a Caestus / Illiastus. For one both guns looks awesome and the other reason: It is a beta rule dump. So changes can and will happen. So maybe the Illiastus will become nice again. And if not, I have a bruiser who can beat up knights in close combat :D

This is a little bit of a odd idea and it most likely would need for the Iliastus to have slight point increase.  What if they added a rapid fire to it along with keeping heavy.  I don't believe off hand there is a technical rule conflict.

If at the current profile it could double the shots at half range it would create a interesting close in support weapon.  Also half range for that weapon is 18" and that is range of almost every unit in the game.  So it is not like the Telemon could be protected by keeping at range.

I know this really odd as we don't see anything like this but it would create something interesting with different roll that would also synergies with a hybrid melee ranged unit well.

Sounds very interesting. I like it when all options have a place in certain situations and you have to make a trade off. If one options is just hands down better, it is not that fun. You could use the other option but it is just not that good.

And on a side note: I guess there is nothing that forbids to make the weapon rapid fire. There are not many tank-ish kind of weapons that are rapid fire though. Most of them are just infantry weapons on a sturdy frame (bolters, plasma guns, etc.).

Ya I'm trying to get a similar conversation rolling on FB but at lot of people right to screaming that I want a OP weapon vs trying to remove the auto take situation we have with the Telemon storm cannon and the Caladius Iliastus.

Also FW needs to be slapped on the god awful naming convention of these weapons.

----

So our options with the Telemon as I see it.

The duel storm cannons (80 pts) for 272 in total

- The most reliable and the current auto take version if you have the parts.

Strom cannon (40 pts) and Caestus (30 pts) plus twin plasma projector (15 pts) for 277 in total.

- This might be the best of the hybrid choices just on the fact that storm cannon out classes the iliastus in both anti armor and infantry.  Generally speaking specialist seem to do better in the game than hybrids in my opinion but there is always exceptions to the rule.

Ilastus culverin (25 pts) and Caestus (30 pts) plus twin plasma projector (15 pts) for 262 in total.

- The budget hybrid but it does not seem to have much going for it compared to the other options.

Two Caestus for (40 pts) and two twin plasma projector (15+15 pts) for 262 in total.

- Solid choice for punching big targets but only 5 attacks has me worried about getting mobbed.  The 4D3 overwatch from the plasma projectors will be nice.  Maybe paired with other AC units this could be a great center line hammer.

The Duel iliastus (50 pts) for 242 in total

- For me this is when you are trying really hard to get the points to work in your list.

Your first mistake is expecting a reasonable conversation on Facebook

Ya I failed be time on that. It is a lot like asking my two year old not to make mess.

I had hope but I think there is a 40k saying "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment."
