Wow.... just WOW! Gorgeous looking stuff! keep up the good work!

I was wondering how long I'd have to wait before someone put that big ring of bone on a Rhino door. I'd thought about doing it myself, but my backlog (and terribly slow rate of building/painting) is enormous.  Conversions are top notch.  Is it the bloodwarriors set you are using for most of the bodies?.....uh,er asking for a friend. :)

My wife and daughter were on vacation so I had a very productive weekend.

Please don't expect me to keep up this pace.

Rhino2 is also ready to paint...

They are things of dark beauty! Great work.

Out of interest, and not to steal the idea (!), what is that part you are taking all the skulls from for the insert?

EDIT - re-read properly, Chaos Dreadhold cheers :tu: *idea stolen*

@Bjorn Firewalker

I'll have Solmar paint them red like the rest of the army.

It will be a pure 40k army, I use the 30K stuff only so that vehicles distinguish more clearly from loyal Space Marine stuff.

@rednekkboss

The first 8 Berserkers are actually just Skullreapers/Wrathmongers bodies with shoulder pads and some heads from the Bloodwarrior-box and weapons or complete underarms from the CSM-Raptors box. I built them quite a while ago and I didn't think much about what this decision meant.

At that time I also read some Black Libary books about Khârn and wanted to have a model of him too. Since I did not like the pose of the new Khârn model from Games Workshop and he is much too small compared to my Berserkers, I mixed the GW model with the Slaughterpriest from the White Dwarf and some bits to make a big Khârn.

I didn't think it would become an army at that time. I just wanted the miniatures and thought I'd use them for Killteam (then still the Heralds of Ruin variant).

I had the first 8 and Khârn painted by Solmar and they were standing unused in my closet for a while and looking pretty.

My gaming group had a big game of Chaos vs. Imperium at our annual Warhammer camping weekend. On the chaos side we used the miniatures of one single player to a large extent.

This game was much too lengthy but looked and felt so cool that it made several players start a Chaos Army and work towards a long term campaign Chaos against Imperium.

I was in command of the Khorne Demons in this game and my buddy said if I wanted to build a World Eater army I can always borrow the Khorne Demons from him for bigger games.

So I started to expand my World Eaters and quickly noticed what I had done to myself with the first conversions.

The number of possibilities with the Skullreapers-box was exhausted relatively fast. Unfortunately the Bloodwarriors are smaller than the Skullreapers. Therefore I used mostly Bloodwarrior bodies (also the Snapfit) for the newer Berserkers, but legs of the Skullreapers (from ebay) and some legs of various AoS Chaos Champions. It was a bit tricky to make them big enough but keep the proportions right. The two Champions are made based on AoS Champions from the Gorechoosen Box.

Here are some pictures of the game that startet this whole mess...

It inspired me to make this army, maybe you find it inspiring too.

For my army in the campaign I need an Exalted Champion of the Khorne who is not a Berserker (ruleswise) and also an other (normal) Berserker.

I made them quickly and send them to Solmar with the Rhinos. The photo is not ideal but now they're already gone...

Solmar has just read this thread and asked me to thank you for the compliments to his painting.

He also told me his recipe for the red (@Honda):

Colour recipe red:

Step 1: Scale75 Deep Red with the airbrush

Step 2: Scale75 Blood Red with the airbrush, only from above!

Step 3: Shadow with Scale75 Deep Red + VMC (Vallejo Model Color) Dark Sea Blue

Step 4: Even deeper shadows with the above mixture + black, only very specific, similar to darklining

Step 5: Highlights with Scale75 Antares Red

Step 6: finer highlights with Scale75 Antares Red + VMC Ivory

Step 7: extreme highlights with above mix + more ivory

He also provided better pictures of the last two miniatures (first layer of red already brushed on)

A fantastic converter teaming up with a fantastic painter is a magnificent thing to behold. Consider your project followed.

I'm really impressed by your Berzerkers, I remember the original ones being goofy as heck, and here you build some of the most badass marines I've ever seen. And your version of the Landraider is what the standard kit should have been all along! Keep up the awesome work man.

Ooooh excellent stuff, so much so I broke out the laptop to write a proper reply!

Great work on the tanks, you've done excellent jobs on the Land Raider and the Rhino's! I am seriously tempted to have a bash at the Land Raider myself. Great use of the AoS kits on the Rhino, certainly food for thought should I 40k World Eaters arrive prior to the 40k Emperor's Children!

If only AoS Khorne stuff wasn't so pricey in Oz, I'd probably get a few to have a bash at some conversions!!

For the campaign I wanted Helbrute in my army.

I like the normal helbrute model but beside my Berserkers it looks a bit small.

So i made one with legs and a few bits from the Maulerfiend kit.

(Its still wip, there are some little gaps to fill)

I just finished an other long term project that was waiting for completion for a while now.
Its a Chaos... eh ... Thing.

I plan to use it as a Forgefiend or Decimator with guns.

[EDIT]

Just saw the LVO previews...
I am a bit in shock. Someone at GW had a pretty similar idea, but much more skill  .

  • 2 weeks later...

Solmar just finished the Helbrute and as always did a fantastic piece of work.

Whenever I give him minis to paint, I imagine what they could look like in the best case... But when he finishes them they look even better.

I'm absolutely happy how this meatball turned out.

First of all, thank you.

To be honest, I don't know exactly what the size relation to these models is.

My Hellbrute is definitely bigger and a bit wider than the original. But I would assume it is a bit smaller than a Redemptor.

At the moment the Helbrute is still standing around at Solmar. When I have it back I can try to make a size comparison photo.
