I think the Primaris Libby looks great, as do the CSM, but... The Obliterator looks sort of like something out of He-Man to me.

So you think it's awesome then? msn-wink.gif

Hopefully there are some Chaos Marines with whopping great horns - they've all got tiny horns so far, and I want a ridiculous honking pair of horns. As is tradition.

And so far so amazing with that Sisters of Battle.

The 40k fluff explained to an outsider:

Some space elves got really into drugs and sex and a big scary monster got born that ate them.
A space wizard got beaten up by a guy who said he was his friend but wasn't and now he's on a life support machine and people worship him because he was super awesome.
Now there are giant men with rocket launcher machine guns and 4 hearts and are really super awesome who beat up everything.
Also there's a bunch of aliens but they don't really do anything and aren't as cool as the rocket machine gun super men, so who cares?

Excellent models all around, though I am not sold on the Obliterators; the fact that all their weapons are part of their armor is in my opinion an improvement (I always found the idea of warping someone's hand into a complicated plasma cannon silly), I do not like the amount of skin showing in between the armor plates: It reminds me of a WWF wrestler. But perhaps they would look better if the skin is painted as warped armor instead.

But I assume that this also means the old-style marines will fade away due to lack of support. Ever new Space Marine release is about Primaris these days.

It is ironic that the last gasp of the Emperor's true vision was finally throttled at the hands of those who fought in His divine name, on the planet that once reminded our Lord of 'Urf, long ago...'"

The obliterators I'm not quite sold on. They look good, but these guys look like they were centurions and took some of Banes serum and quickly grew in size so some of their armor exploded off them. The old oblits looked more like their actual flesh started growing over the armor, I think I liked that idea more. Obviously the execution of the models are way better now

Not a big fan of the obliterators but I can probably fix that with greenstuff.

We got melee primaris already, just because they suck in melee doesn't mean were waiting for the 'real' pistol and ccw or power fist units.

The Bane comparison is right. I'm going to call them Lucha olibrerators for now.

I'm hoping for a two for, and getting an announcement for a new CSM kit and a new Chaos Warriors kit, cause as old as the CSM kit is, its still young compared to the warrior kit, IIRC that came out in late 97/

The current chaos warriors kit with the cloaks is a (early?) 2000s one, the late 90s kit were awful gorilla pose ones.

Hell yeah. I hope there is some multiposing going on with the CSM kit. Buying it regardless, but it would be a little annoying to never get a proper 10 man kit for them.

Cool reveal! I would like a close combat unit too. But honestly I love all the models shown, the chaos stuff is very very cool. Hurrah for new standard chaos Marines!

Vanguard librarian is epic.

I want to like the new Obliterators, it's about time they got some decent models. But I just can't get past that bananna hammock.

Everything else looks good though. Especially the new Sororitas.

I think the Primaris Libby looks great, as do the CSM, but... The Obliterator looks sort of like something out of He-Man to me.

iuFwWnF.png

Purple armour, blue skin, bone coloured face. Yeah, I could see that :).

Those Eliminators and that Librarian are amazing.  I love the fluff about them too.  I really wonder how 'they fight dirty' will end up being implemented?

Honestly, I'm a -tad- disappointed we didn't get a new Primarch reveal... but Abbadon's nearly as good!

All in all, that was a good reveal!  Lots of cool new stuff!

I think that's the best way for it to be though. Abaddon being released is a big deal. He doesn't need to be competing with a Primarch, or even worse, over shadowed by one. Let Abby have his hype, another Primarch can come later.

The first reveal....

LVOStudioPreview-Feb7-ShadowspearArt32yv

New Primaris Lieutenant with bionic eye, sash and beard confirmed. tongue.png

All I am seeing is the glory of chaos right here... biggrin.png

Hmm.. That primaris captain looks a lot like sergeant telion who got a primaris upgrade.

Beards are all the rage for Astartes now. Telion just started the trend. That guy does have a bionic eye/targeter like Telion, but again that's not something that Telion has a monopoly on.

Also, Telion going Primaris and leading squads of fully trained Astartes into battle is a complete 180 of his lore. You're talking about the guy who's refused promotions and power armour for centuries in order to keep training new recruits, and suddenly he's all about that new Primaris jaz? I don't see it. Well, actually I kind of do. It's the kind of lore-breaking development I expect from GW in their quest to replace old Marines. I hope it isn't the case though.

So do we think this is just a new Oblit model, or a whole new unit?

Warhammer Community Article shows one, trailer shows another. That means at least two, so likely it's still a unit of three.... Especially since Obliterators can ONLY be in squads of three laugh.png

I agree that there is probably three in the box, but it's worth pointing out that the Easy to Build sets, Soulwars, First Strike and probably some of the smaller AoS box sets have units/squads that are below the minimum size. Units of three Reavers, Plague Marines and Intercessors in First Strike, three Evocators (minimum size 5) in Soulwars, etc.

I mean, maybe you were just a bit wrong about that? tongue.png

HA! Okay, I'll give you that one. It's really funny though, and I can't say I'm disappointed about what's coming.

And speaking of what IS coming... I may or may not have actually shed a tear. I feel like I'm a kid again, picking up Codex: Eye of Terror for the first time. In fact, I'm gonna go get it and flip through the pages again.

I wonder if this is the actual "Black Legion Vs. humans in power armour" box that was rumoured waaaaaay back. You guys remember that? It even mentioned the Obliterators and Abaddon, so while I really thought that Blackstone was the box, now I'm more inclined to think this is it, even if Abaddon isn't in the box.

And speaking of the big man himself, the teaser is absolutely brilliant. Nicely played, GW.

Abbadon count-down brings us to 5th March... A Tuesday...

ALSO - figured out what I don't like about the new Chaos Marines... It's the heads.

And why do the three shown all have MkVI pattern legs!

More MkII / III inspired designs please! I know the old Chaos Marines had the same pattern but it just don't look right to me.

The obliterators leave me a bit cold... Those thighs are a little too thicc and, uh, pink, though maybe they'd work better in a more daemonic hue. Also not a fan of how close they are to the centurions. Borrowing* the scale and silhouette of the centurions is fine but the shape of the armour and the style of the heads are really very close.

Otherwise the Black Legion stuff is phenomenal. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into where these guys fit on spectrum of warpedness compared to Mallex or the old DV chosen. The tick looks great, you get a strong sense of its lurching movement just from the model.

For the vanguard, well, the librarian is amazing, best librarian GW's done. Clean, good pose, appropriate level of adornment ,though jangling keys feel like the thing that might give your position away as a stealth expert... The contrast between the hard ceramite surfaces and the soft camoline/leather is nice, probably fun for the sculptor, and that force sword is a classic.

Not wild about the Eliminators in general but the same hard/soft surface stuff applies and I really like the way the camo cover is stretched over the backpack and secured, right down to the wrinkles. An excellent little detail. Overall I'm happy GW's sticking to the stripped down, slightly more practical aesthetics for primaris marines, as with the FW heresy releases. That said I'd be pretty disappointed if we got a new unit that's 90% the same as reivers but with a new helmet and a non-sickle mag. Primaris shouldn't be there to emulate the range bloat of the past.

* some weird back and forth going on here. Centurions are made as loyalist obliterator-esque units --> new obliterators copy centurions. Stormcast are made as AoS space marine analogues --> primaris releases start emulating their chambers/specialism right back. Not good or bad, just curious.

Hmmm I don’t think this means that they will retire the basic CSM kit - I mean - I hope so, but I doubt it. Plus I love the multipart options in the old kit so much, I hope it remains as the basic building blocks.

My reasoning is that the old tactical kit was practically unusable due to the severe moldlines. Same with the old Assault marine kit. Both moulds had been so thoroughly used that the moulds had slipped so far, basically making them unusable. How bad was trying to assemble the old jump packs, there was almost 3mm worth of flashing to clean.

So the basic Space Marine, tactical and assault, needed to be updated. Pure speculation on my part, but I feel that is what has capitulated the last 3-5 years of Space Marine transformations. I don’t think the new tactical kit sold as well as the old. It just felt off somehow. Hard to compete with the original Jes Goodwin sculpts for anyone.

So first they updated the tactical (arguably the flagship kit of the entire catalog.) but it didn’t sell so well. People are into Horus Heresy now, that’s the cash cow. So they tried the plastic mk3 and mk4 tacticals. But again, probably didn’t do as well as they hoped they would. (My opinion is due to the transition to digital sculpting, just lacks the same personality and character the old kits had.)

Besides, people are into true scale now, that’s where the action is at. And thusly, as a final last ditch attempt the recapture what was lost, they went with the primaris, and will basically overhaul the entire Space Marine range, taking cues from the Horus Heresy range and amalgamating the SM scouts in for good measure.

HOWEVER - none of that applies to the Chaos Space Marines. Their kit is still in decent shape, the moldlines aren’t so bad. Plus it’s still the original Jes Goodwin sculpts, which actually started this whole amazing phenomenon in the first place. I remember hearing Jes joke once in an interview they were being investigated because the gov thought the must be running drugs or something, due to the sheer amount of plastic soldiers they were shipping out of the country, the officials assumed it was a cover 🤣

But yes, anyway, none of that applies to chaos. I think this will be a mostly monopose, easy to build, easy to paint type thing. Maybe ‘multipart’ but not in the true sense like we know it. I’m not sure if I’ll be happy or not if they replace the CSM kit. People complain that they are old and squatty, but as the old saying goes ‘if it ain’t broke - don’t fix it.’

I really do see the last few years of Space Marine releases as a mad scramble to recapture the esssense of the basic Space Marine kit. Now that Jes is no longer ‘on the tools’ so to speak. And with GW constantly pushing the envelope and trying new ways to make miniatures, and pushing miniatures in new directions. I feel that the old days of ‘make your own miniatures’ are more or less behind us.

Darren talks about (in the voxcast) if they can include extra bits, they will. And if they can make them seperate torsos, legs heads etc, that they will do. But the most important thing is making cool miniatures. Judging all the entire range of miniatures GW has released over the last 3-5 years, Daz’s are the only ones I like.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble! It’s great to be back!

Perhaps the plan is similar to DI Intercessors - bunch of great looking mono-pose followed by a multi-part kit?

Multi-part vs Easy to Build snap-fit isn’t what we mean. We’re talking about how the full multi-part Intercessor and Plague Marine kits are still monopose - that is, that Torso A only fits Legs A, so I can only ever have 10 sculpts repeated with heads and shoulder pads mixed up. What we want is a true multi-pose kit where Torso A fits Legs A, B, C, D or E so you can make multiple squads that actually look different. Unfortunately, to me it looks like that won’t be the case...
Oh, I was using the term mono-pose to refer to the fact that you can only ever get one pose with one head, one set of arms/weapon, molded on equipment etc.

Minus the torso connection, you can mix and match the Intercessors and their equipment in the multi-part kit. DI is single pose no variation. That's kind of what I was referring to.

Anyway...all this stealth stuff makes me think a Whispercutter isn't so farfetched...

They say it's not all and there is more. Venomcrawler is key here I think. It says that the venomcrawler can help daemons enter realspace. So I am thinking daemons might be included. What about the Primaris, well I am thinking a rapid transport (whisper cutter rumor) and another unknown troop that equal the daemons.

Well we can safely assume from the artwork that there's also a unit of Possessed and a Primaris Vanguard Captain in the box.

I'm very excited that the Goat Skull Sorcerer has a generic unit title: Master of Possessions. For a minute I was worried he was going to be a BL specific named character like Haarken. I love the occult aesthetic of that model and will be painting one up in midnight regardless, but I'm excited he won't be just a 'counts-as' sorcerer.

I also wonder if the inclusion of  the Venomcrawler will be a chance to make summoning daemons actually worthwhile. It's a cool idea with a terrible mechanic. I'd gladly pull the trigger on some spooky daemons to fight alongside my spooky marines if the Venomcrawler actually does something useful. I'm pretty much just expecting something along the lines of "add 2 to any summoning rolls made within 6" of this model" or a buff for models with the DAEMON keyword within a certain radius.

Do we have any new info from people at the actual seminar?

Love everything that was shown. Glad they didn't make the studid mistake of going primaris with CSM. That said, those primaris snipers will fit perfectly in my Primaris Alpha Legion army.

My Black Templars army is still kind of in limbo though. All my units could be played in HH but nobody wants to play 7th edition in my community. Guess I'll stick with the special detachement for friendly local games (though I feel every player is a WAAC player now).

I'm also starting a Black Legion army, I'll try to fit Sons of Horus colors as much as I can...while having black Rubric like in The BL novels.

On the Oblits. I love how they are a cross between old Oblits and mini-Helbrutes. The only small thing that has me raising an eyebrow is the one Oblit they show full frontal on and he appears to be... pantless? Am I seeing things or is he just in armoured underwear and booties? I think I'd do something about that look.

Now I can't unsee.

I suppose it's more armour to moph into a "Fleshmetal weapon" ;)
