The series that initially debuts in Japan as an exclusive before worldwide release just teased a new Series 3 within the last hour. I just got word myself. Will try to find out more in the next few hours.
Series 1 was Tactical Marines. Series 2 was Terminators. They were excellent and in the case of the Terminators, they were cheaper than regular Terminators. Really good to model and paint, and in the past I've said if there was a decent gameplay reason, I'd field entire squads of them (and some of my meta have). If Series 3 are Primaris, I'm buying entire boxes and fielding an Indomitus Crusaders detachment or something. If they're Assault Marines, I'd still get maybe 3 boxes to field as a Jump Pack HQ Detachment (like Slamguinius) or something.
Back in March, Hobby Japan magazine held a painting contest, just to show our Japanese Brothers are doing their own promotion. Although over, you can still check out the entry submission site at: http://hobbyjapan.co.jp/smhpaint2/
(Your browser should translate it for you, it was enough for me to figure out how to enter...not even sure if I qualified tho.)
Thanks to Brother Master Commander Ajax, we got something a little unexpected, in its colour scheme:
That's a strange colour for a Space Marine Chapter. Then it turns out...it's not so strange if it was for a LEGION.
Because thanks to Brother DeadFingers, early May (less than 12 hours ago as of this writing), we got another reveal:
And soon after, thanks to Brother Chapter Master Valrak and Toxichobbit, we got these:
Soon after that, thanks to Brother Robbienw reporting Smaug's scoop on DakkaDakka, we learn more about Space Marine Heroes Series 2 (the Terminators, previously exclusive to Japan but somehow we also got them here in Hong Kong) release worldwide:
THE BEST NEWS FOR OUR BROTHERS WORLDWIDE IMHO:
So over here we've had Space Marine Series 2 since October, many of us here have collected and painted ours. I just did 1 (I literally lifted up each sealed box and chose the heaviest one, which turned out to be the Terminator Sergeant), while others bought the full set of 7 (5 were in sealed boxes, the Captain came in a special box, while the Standard Bearer came only with a separate paint set bundle with colours specific to this series).
When Series 3 becomes available here, Series 2 should be made available worldwide. But there's more to this...
According to reporting, you'll get 3 NEW ones we didn't get here, a walking Storm Bolter and Power Fist, an Assault Cannon one, and a different Thunder Hammer one. I'm actually comparing the art from the Series 2 box (which I kept for collecting purposes, got it right in front of me).
There seems to be 1 missing, however...we've got a Heavy Flamer and Chainfist Terminator not shown here. Not that anyone uses that anyway.
Thank you, Brothers Ajax, DeadFingers, Valrak, Toxichobbit and now Robbienw.
Within 24 hours of Brother Ajax's post, Warhammer Community came out with its own article. I cannot say whether all this news was strategically leaked (thus it seemed such coordinated an effort with their Japanese partner) or WhC just has an outstanding Rapid Response team to take control of their stories in case of leaks, but I am very impressed with this marketing discipline, just as when the Ork vehicles were leaked about half a year ago and WhC/WhTV put out something immediately.
I also noticed something here I forgot to mention and Brother Duymon reminded us:
Helmets. As far as I know, ALL Space Marine Heroes so far have an option for a helmet OR a bare head. My Series 1 Tactical Marine with a bandoleer of grenades has both as well as my Series 2 Terminator Sergeant, for example. This is interesting because we hadn't seen many faces of Plague Marines before. It's intriguing for that reason alone.
What do you guys think of this plot twist? Please join the conversation.
