A sword with a length of pole between the hilt and the grip?

A really long sword ...

Why is the part of the chainsaw that is most likely to contact the enemy covered by a regular blade? Kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?

The regular blade is only on one side though!

It's a multi purpose weapon. If you need the chain, you can twist it around and use the chain side, if you need a blade, use the blade side!

I'm so happy that we're finally getting a weapon modeled after Toppers knife in Hot Shots: Part Deux!

The shape of the weapon makes a lot of sense for a thrusting weapon.

If you stab an armored target with a chainsword, the most likely outcome is that the shock of the impact will break the chain and you'll accomplish nothing. Chainsaws work by sustained contact, not striking.

This design allows the hardened blade to pierce the outer armor, after which point the chainsaw portion can do its work properly.

It´s looking like something of the 8th legion would use, hmm

Also, it´s kinda like current raptor kit has but mounted on a pole.

So after thinking about it for a while, I've narrowed it down to four possibilities. This of course based entirely on speculation.

1- It belongs to a character or "unique" unit, like for example the Bringers of Despair. See Terminator with Flaming Mace of Doom for a similar two handed weapon.

2- It belongs to new Terminators, kinda similar to the above, but not unique. Again see Terminator with Flaming Mace of Doom.

3- It belongs to new Chosen sculpts. The weapon seems fancy enough for one of them.

4- It belongs to new Chaos Bikers. Yes, Bikers. The idea of a polearm chainsaw with a stabby bit and crossguard strikes me as perfect for impaling people at high speed. Plus GW seem to be on a vehicular streak as of late.

Those are my two cents, in what I consider to be most likely to least likely, with the middle two kinda tied. Of couse there's the fifth possibility out of the left field that this belongs to either CSM or Possessed, but it looks too baller for that.

And if this is Berzerkers, I'll be severely disappointed. They deserve better. Not that the weapon isn't good enough for a Berzerker, I mean that they deserve better than to be lumped into an Undivided release. You know what I'm talking about.

I am not sure if this is a two-handed chainsword or if it is a glaive-type of weapon - it has elements of both so it is tricky to tell but I am leaning towards the former. I reckon we are looking at the quillions at the base of the blade some plain metal pole to act as a second grip, then a traditional chainsword handle and knuckle guard. It seems very similar to renaissance-era two handed great swords. The only thing missing is a larger pair of quillions above the knuckle guard, but regular chainswords don't have that feature so I don't think it is significant that they are missing.

I really hope this isn't limited to a character as it looks awesome.

Would be awesome if Chaos got their own version of the Big Choppa for unit leaders, or perhaps we are looking at the Chaos-equivalent of an Eviscerator (could be handled similarly to Assault Marines where it is a 1-per-5 weapon choice in addition to Special Weapons).

Nah, no one takes a ship like the XIIth. Imagine being stuck in a space-bound tin can with only short hallways to set up firing points. It'd be like releasing a pack of PCP'ed up wolverines (the animals, not multiple Hugh Jackmans) into a locker room and blocking all the exits.

They aren't stuck inside a ship with you, you're trapped on a ship with them.

However, the First Son and his Templar Brethren are who I'd bet on to defend that ship happy.png

I can't find the artwork, but it was the one where a chaos Terminator was about to hitting a Gravis Capt with a Warhammer. But in the bottom left there was a guy holding a sword that looked like that.

Here it is: http://imgur.com/YxCu2H9 not as similiar as I thought it was...

So I can't get this any larger at this time, but take a look at this guy from the above photo:
gallery_59244_7045_4111.jpg

Am I seeing things, or do those look suspiciously like a Khorne-y helmet crest/bunny ears to anyone else? Also, I don't recall an axe like that in the current model line (specifically the protrusions on reverse of the blade). I think you could make a similar conversion from some AoS stuff right now, but I don't believe it exists as specifically 40K stuff.

I don't want to get overly hyped, but I could really do with some God-aligned gear in a generic kit to serve as Marks, as opposed to having to try converting specific God-aligned Marines to more generic ones.

Edit: Sorry, this comment ended up in completely the wrong thread - it should have been in the Shadowspear Chaos Marines rumor thread.

Current CSM kit had God aligned helms and pads, you might be right.

Regarding the guard at the base of the blade, look up spetums or especially partisans which were polearms with a similar guard.

Due to the ceremonial usage of partisans, I don't think some sort of body- or (dis)honor-guard would be a stretch of the imagination.

NOW IT'S OUR TIME BROTHERS!

Doesnt mean our next dex/updates etc will be any good. I dont get my hopes up with GW any more, let down with Necromunda, 8th Ed, current fluff amongst other things. If what we get is good then Ill be very surprised...

I think you might be onto something here. Give the Bad Don a couple of bodyguard-types with two-handed weapons of awesomeness as a kind of evil mirror of Calgar and his buddies.

Either way, I love the look of this weapon and suspect I'll be spending a lot of money in March.

It might be that the csm squad comes with 15-20 different heads, and 5 or so differing close combat weapons. It would be a wonderful source of bits.

A polearm with a crossguard? huh.png,

Yeah, ranseurs, partizans and spetums all have spiked/bladed crossguards. Admittedly they don't have curved blades like that, but hey.

Anyway, whatever this is looks fantastic.

The new glaive/pole-arm certainly looks amazing my thinking is either something to do with the Night Lords, for obvious reasons; or Terminators due to the presumably large size. Bringers of Despair, perhaps?
