Alternative to chipboard

I have been looking at some of the videos for the Wylock's armoury YouTube channel and have noticed that Grafix Medium Chipboard is used a lot. Does anyone have experience in working with chipboard and could suggest an alternative (cheaper) material. I am trying to replicate this: https://youtu.be/5N99J7c5ifc , if it helps.
