starting a space wolves army

hey guys

So im actually starting a white scars successor army (havent picked a chapter yet) and in the mean time I ended up getting a start collecting space wolves set because I wanted to use the bits to give me army a more rugged and feral look. (after all both legions were barbarians, its just the Vth didnt like being called that).

Then I figured they look like such nice models so I might as well also build and paint the space wolves up as well.

So here we go...

Ill be loading pictures for critique and advice. Im a new painter/modeller and I do this in the evenings to relax my mind, so please any advice is always more then welcome.

Thanks @GrFlur!!

Update time.

So this is the first miniature Iv seriously painted (although I did practice painting techniques on a squad of orks from black reach).

And this is what I have learned

I started with base coating and layering the wolf rider. I got the hang of base coating...layering still gives me a bit of trouble. You can see a few blotches on one of the hands. I thin the paints using water, maybe I should switch to thinning it with lahmian medium? Im also using the old citadel standard brush and not a layer brush so I dont know if that makes a difference.

I then added some agrax earthshade into the recesses to kind of give it a more grimy look. Tomorrow evening Im going to try doing some high lights on the armour.

As always guys let me know what you think.

Also to make this fun maybe we can create a story around these guys.

In general I think I want to base them around M34/35 as the 3rd great company that left the fang and ventured off on their own. Their sigil is the  black wolf head ( so i can learn to use transfers) on a field of red (that way they dont have to be apart of Ragnars great company). I dont have a codex yet so hopefully this makes sense fluff wise.

another small update, been quite busy with the studies but so far my thunder wolf rider is almost done.

if you notice the helmet strap on his left side broke off and I cant seem to find it..kind of a major bummer. im trying to figure out how to redesign it which is why I havent tackled the face yet.

otherwise hes coming along. any suggestions for a back story or a name?

Victory Peace (Sivrit is the Middle High German form of "Siegfried"), Son of One in Wolf-skin; the slayer of Factory; who rides the great wolf Cunning Foot...

Sounds reasonable. I'd like to know more about Fabrikk, whose slaying was considered a great feat. From the name, I'm assuming he/she/it's related to the AdMech- maybe a Magos-turned-heretek on the Isle of the Iron Masters (described in William King's novel Space Wolf), or an archeotech war machine from the time when Fenris was first colonized.
