Suppressors for the BT

Hello fellow Brethren,

Just wondering: is anyone keen on using Suppressors to complement and support their close combat forces? Is it a no-brainer to bring them along or am I missing something?

Do let me know your thoughts.

I do like them but I hate the models so I'll probably just put the arms/jump pack into an Intercessor. As to the rules they do look very useful at covering an assaulting unit, their S7 AP-2 D2 means they can certainly bring the pain to infantry or do some anti-tank in a pinch though I would bring other units for punching through tanks since any assault army will be using them mainly for the Overwatch denial.

I dont think its necessary... for those points i will buy bigger melee units.

Suppressing fire is nice, but they're primaris, so it's a no-no on my side

+1 from me. The rules are rather nice but the models are to me a new low; they're up there in the hall of infamy with Centurions and Stormtalons, only worse :P The gun is fine, very thematic and what not, but on the whole, they seem ridiculous.

Stepping aside from people's personal views on design aesthetics, they do sound like they fulfil a pretty niche role. While this isnt necessarily a bad thing, Medjugorje makes a fair point that maybe going all-in with your points on you melee units themselves could well be more efficient. Only time will tell; these need to hit the table before anyone can bring definitive answers.

To me, they don’t look great. Almost comical and Templars should be intimidating not comical.

Rules wise: 48” HEAVY weapon + deepstriking unit that does not have RELENTLESS (or an equivalent rule) seems bizarre, and lowers their utility imho.

Pehaps there will be an ASSAULT weapon for them in the future. That would make more sense to me.

Suppressors are a little weird, but I would assume they aren't meant to be constantly on the move. They deepstrike down on an objective, fire for a few turns. They may need to take a new position or bound back from assault units. At the same time, I still ask myself why would I pay points for a contingent ability. Probably a work around for a lack of affordable transports at this time.

I'm going to take a different tack on this and say only that in certain situations, even if they're ugly, they will be a good addition to soften up targets for CC units. I see this along the lines of knowing what enemy you'll be facing in game, and placing these for maximum effect. They do look and sound like a unit that should be stationary with a good field of fire. Keep in mind that they were designed to work well with the other units in the Shadowspear box release. I'll be looking forward to seeing their capabilities... and seeing them in BLACK!

I never really saw the need for tabards on jump troops.

Practically speaking, there's no way on earth a tabard would survive an Inceptor jump, the burn up would crisp it, and there would be always the issue of it flapping into an intake.

It's like that no cape scene in The Incredibles.

I can't wait to throw three squads of Suppressors at my buddys Tau army, splitting fire to cover up to 9 squads, and Reivers + Infiltrators running in to slice and dice.

As for the models.....

Everyone needs a challenge in life. Making these look cool will be mine for the month of April.

The new vanguard seem to be better if you bring a librarian with the new powers. I suspect nobody at GW actually thought about how templars were supposed to use them.

Edit: Then again, the first Vigilus book showed GW thinks of us more in terms of veteran classic marines, than primaris.

to be honest... I think this is not the thing. They will bring each release with a themed Primaris army. This time its not the warfare of Templar, White Scars, Iron Hands.... maybe next time it is...

But Vigilus was never planed to be Templars on it - i think GW respond to our feedback.

In terms of modelling: I would have a look for 3rd Party autocannons or the vanguard bits and put these, as well as jumppacks on intercessor bodies.

I think they do a themed force they came up with and just make it accessible to All chapters which is fair enough.

In terms of vigilus: maybe we get some fluff in the next book. But it seems to heavily focus on Chaos, so I wouldnt hold my breath tbh.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the suppressors will be getting some kind of heavy bolter like option when they release the regular kit (maybe even lascannons?).

Having now seen the rules for the vanguard, Templars are specifically mentioned, but only that we can't take the psyker option. They at least didn't forget about us.
