How many acolytes?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm new to the cult and I was taken by the new codex. But today starting a new army from the beginning is really an expensive business...

I've got lot of guard's pieces to form a bases, but a lot of Hibrid Accolytes cannot be left out. I read somewhere that Accolyte Hybrids box contain many extra parts usable to convert more of them from other models, especially guards. I looked to the blister pictures, but there're so many parts that it is hard to figured out how many Accolyte I can combine togeter usig other legs or torsoes...

Accolyte models are bended and twisted, do you think that I can use old Skaven bodies or legs? Is it better to use legs and torsoes from guardsmen? Because I have lot of both types.

This is the list that I have plan for a 1500 pts:

BATALLION (5+3)

HQ

Patriarc

Primus + Bonesword

ELITE

5 Aberrant + 3 Power hammer + 2 Power Pic

Nexos

Clamavus

TROOPS

10 Accolyte + 2 Rock Saw + 8 Hand Flamer + Icon

5 Accolyte + 2 Rock Cutter

5 Accolyte + 2 Demo Charges

5 Accolyte + 2 Demo Charges

10 Neophytes + 2 Mining Laser

10 Neophytes + 2 Sismic Cannon

FAST

1 Armored Sentinel + Plasma Cannon

1 Armored Sentinel + Plasma Cannon

HEAVY

1 Leman Russ Battle Tank + 3 HB

BATALLION ( 5 )

HQ

Accolyte Iconward

Magus

TROOPS

10 Broodbrothers + Lascannon

10 Broodbrothers + Lascannon

10 Broodbrothers + Lascannon

HEAVY

Goliath Rock Ridge + Democharge + Incinerator

I've just got Russ, Sentinels, the 30s Broodbrothes and 10 Neophite from Kill team.

I'm planning to buy the starter set, Aberrants, and hopefully just a kit of Accolyte. Do you think that I will get enough models from this two boxes alone?

I plan to convert the Clamavos, Nexos and Accolyte Iconward mixing guards and extra Neophyte parts...

Do you have suggestions about the list too. My plan is to use the guards elements and Neophyte as fire support/base, and try to strike with Accolyte and Aberrants. I don't want to mix out cults. For now I'm planning to run a 4HGC, or Twisted Elix...

Suggestions?

Thank you very much for your patience.

The scale is completely wrong to convert Acolytes from any other model. You could have Cadians with three arms but they won't look great.

I don't see those Acolyte squads as very useful. I used them in 7th ed but they worked because the rules were very different.

Acolytes can't get in range to throw grenades without trucks or Lying in Wait and won't survive to throw a second demo charge so 2 demo charge Acolytes need 3cp on stratagems to actually work, you're not going to be doing that twice with two squads of 5. You'd be better with one squad of 10.

5 Acolytes with 2 mining weapons will just die before those upgrades see any use.

Neophytes with mining lasers are just better than demo charges for doing ranged damage.

Each their own I guess, but my current 2k list has 85 acolytes (and they are far from alone).

Many are made from guardsmen torsos, which I think look okay (but two armed arms can be very tricky). Some of my favourite models are from these conversions and actually ending up being some of my key squads on the table

I even turned my neophytes into acolytes which pretty much blend in with acolytes from afar.

All on the larger primaris base of course.

As a rule of thumb, 1 box of acolytes + 15 other bodies/legs gets you 20 acolytes.

Best thing is to try a few and see if you like it, but I'd consider trying a few either way

EDIT: you do want larger squads though. As an indication my current loadout of the 85 is as follows:

2 * 5 - pretty much exclusively objective grabbers but may Charge a weak unit

1 * 20 Flamers + 5 demo charges (LiW + maybe PA)

1 * 15 10 Flamers, 5 charges (LiW + possibly PA)

1 * 20 banner, 6 Saws - they come in last, looking for the juiciest target. Support by all the characters

1 * 20, banner only - similar role as above but cheaper squad, I take broodsurge and their a great target for +1 to wound which with MfB & primus could drop a knight

They all go in reserve. 3 biggest squads via stratagem

That's in a brigade and I have a battalion alongside with 3 BB (also in reserve)

I've watched entire squads of acolytes die and just laughed because I care not :)

Both your informations are very interesting especially about conversions and usage of squads. Do you have any picture of your conversion to share?

So you don't use any tanks or fire support from Guards/Neophyte?

Pretty much no to vehicles, I use a lot of brood brothers combined with tempestor primes but find neophytes lacking compared to brood brothers now they can take orders.

The couple of mining lasers is nice but they end up being unreliable potshots unless you take a lot and most of the rest of the squad are a worse version of brood brothers (I do really like webbers and would use those more if you could take more in a squad)

  • 2 weeks later...

If you are into casting at all, you can do what I did - cast the body (legs + torso) of an acolyte or two.  (It's very simple).

Then, churn those bad boys out.

The acolyte box from GW has enough arms and extra heads  in their 5-mini box to make 12 (or 13) Acolytes.

I have 70 amazing looking acolytes because of this method. If you or a mate can get this done, you're golden.
