hello everyone.

I have started a space wolves army, and I have been posting in the works in progress page. I am a beginner and Id like to hear peoples thoughts on my work. suggestions for improvement are always welcome. I mostly paint and kit bash to make what i consider cool looking models.

also if anyone knows how I can merge this topic with the one in works in progress please let me know.

Welcome brother, warm yourself by the hearth. I'm not aware of anyway to merge threads outside of mod intervention so probably best to post in this thread or simply link to your other one.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I had a WIP thread going but everyone was suggesting I post in  Aett.

Here is my progress.

(by the way if the Mods know how to combine the thread please let me know how).

wolf cav 2

wolf Cav 2

wolf cav2b

wolf Cav 2c

please let me know what you guys think of the pose. The idea in my head is to create the base with a frozen river and have the wolf leaping over and the marine (yet to be named) shooting plasma shots before closing in with his chainsword. i still need to add a few decorative pieces maybe a few grenades or maybe even a meltabomb on the back.

here is the 3rd member of the squad

wolf Cav 3b

wolf Cav 3a

wolf cav3 hand

The idea behind him was he is pointing a spear down at his foe and is moving in for the kill. The wolf skull was added to give him a more barbarian look. I still have to create a back story for him.
what do you guys think of the spear hand? i dont know if I want to keep it and paint it up as a prosthetic or try to cut out a marine hand and try to get it to fit.  the spear is a stand in I might switch the tip with a frost blade tip.

also if theres a way I can have the pictures show up enlarged please let me know how.

heres the first wolf

His name is Sivrit Heoinnsson  the slayer of Fabrikk  and his mount is SloegrFot (props to bjorn firewalker for the name)

Sorry mate, not a fan of those overgrown horn helmets, which vikings NEVER used, and looks over the top to me. However, it's your model so do what you want. Just my frank feedback.

Spear guy looks great though. Rules wise it'll have to function as a power maul.

hey guys just a quick update

I altered the speartip for wolf cav2  (until i find a more suitable name) and added some hair and a braid.

Let me know your thoughts

wolf cav2 B

wolf cav2d

wolf cav2e

@Kasper_Hawser

the truth be told I kinda knew that real Vikings didnt actually use horned helmets, but it did somehow make its way into the pop culture and interpretation of Vikings, and I assumed that the original humans who settled on Fenris, probably based their culture around these interpretations. some of it being actual Viking culture, some of it being these interpretations, and some of it being entirely new and random. Remember these arent Vikings, these are Fenrisians who have a similar culture to Vikings, which is probably where they got their cultural nuances from. That being said thats how my head cannon views it.

the honest truth of it all is I did the whole thing as a fun experiment in kit bashing and customization and when my friends and family (who know much about 40K or Viking culture) see it they automatically know " oh thats a Viking"

If the Thunderwolf riders' lances are pointed downwards, you might as well decorate their bases with prone enemies for the riders to finish off. Otherwise, those arms should be raised, and the lances pointed forwards.

Sounds like a good idea, I was wondering how to decorate that particular base.

I love the idea of hunting lances, I've been working on some ideas with harpoons as the bodyguard of Russ were armed that way, but I would say take a look at the way the wrist is bent holding that lance, on impact the wrist would shatter (don't care how superhuman a SM is, that's gonna break), maybe switch his grip so the thumb is wrapped around the rear of the lance, I think will make a world of difference to the pose.

Not sure about hunting lances, but one of the main weapons of norse warriors were simple spears, probably the most common and cheapest, followed by the axe. Swords were more of a status thing and apparently, the iron of scandinavian countries are of poor quality like Japan, not sure why, something to do with the location of iron deposit in volcanic soil I think. Someone help me out why it is so.

  • 1 month later...

sorry for the lateness guys...the real world kicked in. Anyways I finally managed to get some paint on these guys, im new to this so i think I must have made a billion trips to my local GW for supplies. those guys are a major help.

heres the update

Let me know what you guys think hes the second pack member.

wolf rider2b

Just a few points, I didnt have the codex until a few days after i painted them, so I was not aware that the thunderwolf cav are mounted by WG who have yellow and black markings.

wolf rider 2b

I tried my hand at using decals...they are quite a challenge.

wolf rider 2c

So for this guy I imagined a wolf skull mask...not really practical I know.

The wolf is supposed to be black in colour. it looks fairly good on the table top but now with a close up picture I can see that the face is really grey. either way now I know for next time

here is the third member and a group shot.

Also brothers lets come up with some names for these two who are joining Sivrit Heoinnsson

wolf rider 3a

wold 3e

wolf rider 3b

wolf rider 3d

Im really proud of this one. He was inspired by a character from game of thrones. I tried to contrast the light blue armour with a yellow colour to the plasma pistol. I might also give yellow lenses to marines once I get around to doing units with helms.
The white wolf was a challenge just like the black. I gave him blue eyes to give him that wintery feel.

the unit as a whole has a few features to make them look as one. they all have the same decal on the right shoulder pad, and the left shoulder pad has the wolf head and the pad itself has Gold trim.

Note: I lost the base for Sivrit...after it was completed so I will have to redo it. I had nephews over perhaps they were poking around the work station.

again let me know what you guys think of my humble submissions
