Death Guard Battalion Detatchment

HQ Options:

Typhus (Warlord): 175 Points

Chaos Lord (Lord Rotpurge) w/Combi-Flamer, Power Fist: 97 Points

Troops Options:

Plague Marines x6 w/Plasma Gun x2, Blight Launcher, Boltgun x3, Power Fist: 223 Points

Poxwalkers x10: 60 Points

Poxwalkers x10: 60 Points

Elites Options:

Blightlord Terminators x5 w/Combi-Flamer, Combi-Plasma, Combi-Melta, Reaper Autocannon, Balesword x3, Bubotic Axe, Flail of Corruption: 283 Points

Helbrute w/Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta, Helbrute Fist: 156 Points

Total: 997 Points

Advice is welcome, but I don't exactly have the funds to change what I have through anything other than very creative counts-as and copious amounts of glue.

Edit: Formatting, slight list modification (dividing the Poxwalkers into two units to fill out a Battalion Detachment), detachment specification.

Edit 2: Restructuring to include a Helbrute and Typhus.

The only comment id make is related to the PMs. I find that mixing the Plasma and Blightlaunchers to not work very well. Blight Launchers on their own make good use of our Chapter Tactic of being to advance and fire, whereas plasma do not. Ive found much more benefit to running to Blight Launchers in a squad instead of mixing. Id, for that same reason, take the plasma gun off the Champion and save the points. By dropping the 2 plasma plus the 12 points you got left over, youll most likely have enough for an extra Plague marine with bolter, which IMO would be much more efficient, especially with the new Bolter Rules.

I love my PM squads with Blight Launchers, find them much more effective than the plasma.

Unfortunately, I don't actually have the money to pull that off at the moment. My Plague Champion is the press-fit kind, who absolutely always has to have a power fist and plasma gun without heavy modification. Same for the other Plague Marine with a Plasma Gun and the one with a Blight Launcher. I can't change much as it is, unfortunately, but I'll keep this in mind for the future.

Unless its a seriously competitive game im sure your opponent will be fine with a "counts as" model. I do it all the time, 1 of my squads of PMs is from Dark Imperium which has 2 Plasma Guns on the marines and one on the Champ, but i just run them as Counts As Blightlaunchers. Then in time if you like running it that way you can invest in the correct models :)

Many gamers, myself included, do not care about WYSIWYG. If this is not a tournie I would just run whatever weapon options you want. As long as you have the model and have the points on a list and don't get cute with trying to hide special weapons it should be good.

Not only do I prefer to run what I actually have, I also prefer plasma guns over blight launchers, despite blight launchers being specific to Death Guard. I even went out of my way to add chainswords to my Intercessor Sergeants (all three are single-pose kinds, and don't come with chainswords) so I'd have them accurate.

I disagree. They are close but I don't think Plague Launchers are better than Plasma. While Arch Contaminator equals out the lack in Strength, it only has AP-2 instead of AP-3 which makes a big difference against Marines and only D1d3 instead of D2 so whenever you happen to roll a 1 instead of a 2 or 3 against a W2 model (like Primaris) you actually require twice as many wounds as a Plasma gun.

Also while they can advance&shoot without penalty with Plague Launchers, you can Rapid fire Plasma guns at 18" already so that kinda equals out as well.

In the end they are similar but have different perks. The Plague Launchers have better reach but the Plasma guns have better punch at 18".

I agree with this. I also prefer plasma over blight launchers but I run both quite often. I don't think you are wrong to take one over the other.

I like launchers for a number of little reasons. To begin with they always fire at full strength, they always Fire Two Shots, they can always be fired while advancing, and within range of arch contaminator, they have a 55% chance to wound toughness 7 8 9 10 11 and 12, which narrowly beats out plasmas numbers. Their damages variable but they are reliable and will never blow up in your face. The fact that they are one point cheaper is just icing on the cake but your mileage may vary.
