Concept for Detachment CP fixing

Recommended Posts

One big thing a lot of people do make a big deal of (or at least it was a MASSIVE point of debate in threads relating to 8th edition balance) was the isue of CP starved armies. An idea hit me and working with it seems to yield potential.

I have decided to build this system off of battalions as that seems like the go-to detachment and baseline for all armies. So lets get to it

You may only use 1 of each detachment per army.

If all your selected units for your army all share the same faction keyword* then the following command benefits apply to your army on top of the standard CP gained from taken detachments.

Battalion Detachment:

If you take 2/3 fast attack choices in your battalion: +2/3 CP

If you take 2/3 heavy support choices in your battalion: +2/3 CP

For every 2 elite choices taken: +2 CP

Vanguard Detachment:

If you also have a battalion detachment, double the CP bonus granted from elite choices being taken.

Outrider Detachment:

If you also have a battalion detachment, double the CP bonus granted from fast attack choices being taken.

Spearhead Detachment:

if you also have a battalion detachment, double the CP bonus granted from heavy support choices being taken.

*when I say faction keyword I mean things like adeptus astartes, astra militarum and so on. The ones that would make you mono-dex (or as close as to).

So with this, mono-dex armies can now actually build according to what they want and not get shafted for CP. You can still ally but now you better being making use of the added utility. I added the highlander rule for detachments because this way it should help encourage some growth in different directions and put the battery battalion in a position of being a choice, not something you throw in hap-hazard.

The other thing I will confess is there is outliers with this that make it possible to technically multi-dex (mainly Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Space wolves and Codex Marines) and I believe Tyranids and Genestealer Cult (since I believe both share Tyranid keyword) along with heretic astartes (Thousand Sons, Death Guard and Codex Chaos Marines) but the question would be if that would be an issue or not.

Thoughts?
