Red Corsairs test model(s)

Recommended Posts

Nice paint job, battle damage in particular looks good but he doesn't look like a red corsair. A marine who pledged alliegence to Huron would probably use red/black to blotch out his former chapter symbol and replace it with the corsairs fist emblem.

Thanks brother, the yellow was very hard for me to pull it off, I had to scrap thepaint and start again a couple of times. Asfor the scheme, back in the day (if my memory serves)  new renegades who joined the Red Corsairs kept their chapter colors and defiled the chapter badge with a red X.

If I finally decide to make an army of corsairs, I'll represent the new recruits this way, and the veterans will have the standard scheme.

I love it! It matches the old fluff, but another x and some Red chaos symbols would help make the allegiance clear. For mine I’m doing at least one red and black shoulder pad with the symbol to tie everyone together.

Thank you! Good point about chaos symbols, I'll keep it in mind for the next one. As for more X's, the next one to be corrupted will have 2, since my plan is to recruit yet another son of Dorn; a Black Templar :)

I love what you've done - it would probably look really cool with a full squad!

The Red Corsairs are actually infamous for just painting over their previous emblems with a red x. Eventually they will repaint their armour, but not initially.

Thanks Chaz, I have some ideas about the rest of the squad, all of them new recruits lead by a veteran Red Corsair. I'll try to start another one this afternoon.

That was my inspiration :D also this will prevent me being bored of painting everything the same (I still have bad memories painting 2k pre-heresy WE in 2 weeks).

Allright, this took me way longer than expected, and I'm not very happy with him, as I did a lot of  mistakes and have to re-do stuff. I'm very tired right now and I guess that didn't help. Here is Mordred of the Red Corsairs:

Still need some weathering, or maybe I'll just scrap it over and start again, thoughts?

Nice! Are you planning to have squads of varied chapters using the red X?

Yeah, that's the plan.

he looks good, don't scrap him...Just use him as the first casualty :tongue.:

I like your army choice(this would be the perfect army for people that get bored after painting 5 man squads all the same colour...hey... that's me :laugh.: )

good luck with the rest of it!!

Cheers Mithril

p.s. the yellow looked great, glad you persevered (remember painting like that is how we improve ourselves...well that's what the E'avy metal guys say

I like him! Maybe needs something more extreme, or he’s found atheism? Trying to get into the mindset of a faithless Black Templar, my first thought is the Word Bearers vibe of a new faith... but maybe he’s gone cold? Anyway some expression of that might help. Or just chipping and grey highlights instead of philosophy!

Hi, thanks brother, I try to keep him  and see if I can improve him some how, if not, then first casualty it is!

He's definitely not an atheist. Lost a couple of hours trying to carve out the khornate rune of a shoulder pad* to show his allegiance. I ended up destroying it by accident, then started with a second one that is about 1/3 completed; then I gave up for now. Maybe I'll resume the carve out operations tomorrow. There'll be some chipping for sure :laugh.: I don't want him to be nice and clean, he is a murder hobo after all!

I think he looks better after 10 minutes of sponge chipping. Still looks rather bland to me, so I want to give him more work.

There are some minor touches to do and I really want to give him a khornate sigil, and I need tothink about that. But for now he will stay as he looks now, since I want to move to the other squad members. In no  particular order they are a full color Red Corsair, an Ultramarine and a flamer toting Salamander.

I love seeing old stuff like this making its way into the new 40K era. Old school corsairs with the primaris very nice.

haha, thanks!!

Great work! I'd aim for more X's on them though, it's hard to tell from the front who they are.

Thanks Xenith, I hope this one is easier to identify as he has a front red X, and I'd try to make the rest more chaotic so there are no misunderstandings about who they are!

Fantastic work! These are exactly how I imagined the old red corsairs! I'm actually thinking of doing a red corsairs force myself and I might do this with my "new recruits"

Thank you Marshal! Please do it, there aren't enough oldschool corsairs out there, and always is good to have some more and different builds to get inspiration! :D

If you know anyone who plays Daemons or AoS, the Bloodcrushers/Mighty Skullcrushers (Dameons/Dudes on Juggernauts) come with Khorne icons on chains that are supposed to be necklaces on the Daemons, and pauldron decorations on the Skullcrushers. And if they're like me, the dangly jewelry on the Daemons seems unnecessary, so they'll have quite a few spares.

Thanks Marshal, glad you like it! The technique is pretty simple, just attack it carefully in places where it makes sense to be chipped :laugh.: I used leadbelcher instead of grey; some of the grey areas that show in the pic were done before covering the mini in nuln oil. If I do another templar will be using vallejo black-grey instead of pure black, then some sponging of mech standard grey and nuln oil gloss instead.

Mordred is currently drying the last washes on, and I'm now starting to enjoy the pain of painting red over a black primer.

Cheers!

Oh come on, painting red over black primer isn't THAT bad. I've painted all my Khorne stuff over black primer

Yeah, not anymore. Painting red is still a pain but god is it easier compared to the old Citadel red ... now THAT was worth complaining over! :D
