So I play regularly against my friend and his brother in a triple threat game 2k points each. My friend runs castellan+guard and his brother runs death guard triple plague burst + mortarion + plague bearers. So I thought I'd try out something with a little more teeth considering I'm in pretty good company. Here's the list:

++ Spearhead Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Blood Angels) [73 PL, 1449pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

**Chapter Selection**: Lamenters

+ HQ +

Captain in Phobos Armour [6 PL, 119pts]: 3. Master of the Vanguard, Camo cloak, Master-crafted instigator bolt carbine, Warlord

Malakim Phoros [10 PL, 205pts]

+ Heavy Support +

Eliminator Squad [3 PL, 72pts]
. 2x Eliminator: 2x Bolt sniper rifle, 2x Camo cloak
. Eliminator Sergeant: Bolt sniper rifle, Camo cloak

Eliminator Squad [3 PL, 72pts]
. 2x Eliminator: 2x Bolt sniper rifle, 2x Camo cloak
. Eliminator Sergeant: Bolt sniper rifle, Camo cloak

Eliminator Squad [3 PL, 72pts]
. 2x Eliminator: 2x Bolt sniper rifle, 2x Camo cloak
. Eliminator Sergeant: Bolt sniper rifle, Camo cloak

Relic Leviathan Dreadnought [16 PL, 303pts]: 2x Heavy flamer, Storm cannon array, Storm cannon array

Relic Leviathan Dreadnought [16 PL, 303pts]: 2x Heavy flamer, Storm cannon array, Storm cannon array

Relic Leviathan Dreadnought [16 PL, 303pts]: 2x Heavy flamer, Storm cannon array, Storm cannon array

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Space Marines) [37 PL, 6CP, 550pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

**Chapter Selection**: Crimson Fists

Battle-forged CP [3CP]

Detachment CP [5CP]

Specialist Detachment [-1CP]: Crimson Fists Liberator Strike Force

+ HQ +

Librarian in Phobos Armour [6 PL, 111pts]: 3) Temporal Corridor, 4) Hallucination, Camo cloak, Force sword

Primaris Lieutenants [5 PL, -1CP, 74pts]
. Primaris Lieutenant: Expert Instructor, Master-crafted auto bolt rifle, Stratagem: Field Commander

+ Troops +

Infiltrator Squad [11 PL, 110pts]: 4x Infilltrator, Infiltrator Sergeant

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 85pts]: Bolt rifle, 4x Intercessor, Intercessor Sergeant

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 85pts]: Bolt rifle, 4x Intercessor, Intercessor Sergeant

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 85pts]: Bolt rifle, 4x Intercessor, Intercessor Sergeant

++ Total: [110 PL, 6CP, 1999pts] ++

So the list is pretty simple. Triple leviathan + captain and phoros means 60 Str 7 -2 2d shots a turn at bs2+ rerolling 1s and all wounds. The eliminators unlock the dreads but also give me both board control and character snipers while the battalion gives me extra scoring, reasonable horde clearance and some cp. The librarian will harass the big guns. I'm considering dropping one of the crimson fist troops for am assassin and giving the libby tome of malcador relic. Any thoughts on this or anything else are appreciated.

I think assassin is worth it. The functionality of your list seems to be centered around keeping the leviathans going as long as possible and the assassin can help a lot in that regard. Eversor will be a big dissuasion to mass infantry trying to swamp them and a callidus can help defuse alpha strikes looking to knock them out early. Obviously culexus against guys who are gonna smite spam them down.

You mentioned an opponent bringing a castellan. What's your game plan for that? You have no smash captain to try and melee it and I doubt stormcannons will cut it. The lone librarian seems insufficient; maybe consider dropping him and tweaking some more points for a jump captain with the fist relic. Not as reliable as BA smash (especially at soloing knights) but you don't have another HQ slot in the BA detachment.

I math hammered it and I think if I focus fire with the storm canons I will get about 10 successful wounds doing 20 damage in a turn if the opponent rotates ion Shields. If they don't (for reasons I can't fathom) then the castellan dies in 1 round of shooting with average dice.

Yeah I agree about the assassin I think they bring enough versatility to be worth it. I think I may switch the second detachment to be lamenters so they can benefit from the rerolls too. The fists aren't really contributing all that much on reflection.

Idiotically, I was thinking the stormcannons put out 4 shots apiece. Way off on that mark lol

And if you end up switching the other detachment to Lamenters, you can take smash too anyway

I had a game at the weekend to test out my list, I changed the other detachment as discussed which left me with the list below. I was in a 3 man free for all against a castellan plus a catachan guard brigade and a nurgle demons list running 3 30 man blobs of plague bearers a soulgrinder and the named demon Prince.

Spoiler

The list performed pretty well I came second out the 3 of us and that was because we played beach head and the nurgle player piled into the central objective while me and the Knight took chunks out of each other. The Knight dropped a leviathan to 2 wounds turn 1 and finished it off turn 2 but I managed to break my way through his walls of screen to get to the Knight with my smash captain.

I took too long clearing away the plague bearers and the nurgle player pulled too far ahead as a result. If I'd focused on him straight away I think it would have played out differently. Two things I really noticed with my list was a lack of mobility and long range fire power but I'm not really sure of the best way to fix those issues without losing the core of the list. Any suggestions are welcome.

What's the intended use of the blood angels techmarine? He can't repair the leviathans because they are different chapters.

The problem with Levi's is the shortish range so you will mostly be outranged by other heavy hitters (riptides, knights, leman russ, ravagers, etc)

I would suggest maybe dropped 1 set of leviathans/eliminators for a deepstrike threat. Perhaps Sanguinary guard that can help punish castles. Or you can take a few units of bikes which are fairly fast and durable with the standard of sacrifice. A pity Blood angels can't take company veterans on bikes.

Does phoros give rerolls to hit too, or just to wound? I don't remember off the top of my head. If he gives full rerolls you have no reason not to drop the fist captain to open the HQ slot for the techmarine.

As a bonus it would give you a 40-point headstart for BrotherAetherick's suggestion above ^. A cheaper alternative to the sang guard could be vets with a mix of double chainswords and special weapons + shields. They can clear screens for smash to get to the juicy stuff, or if your opponent leaves an opening, they can safely assist him in assassinating riptides and the like since he'll nullify overwatch with the Angel's wing.

So after a long think I've decided to drop smashy and one of the eliminators and take a contemptor Mortis with quad las and a company vet squad with storm bolters and Shields for rapid deployment that can hose a few shots or just tank an overwatch. All under the lamenters banner.

New list

Spoiler

So what are your thoughts on the changes? Where do you think my problems will lie. I'll be testing this out against probably similar lists as last time.

I worry about your board control a bit. Seems like the Mortis will want to crowd in a bit with the leviathans. I feel like the smash captain gives you more options, but you would probably know better having played the list.

My intention is to occupy the centre of the board early, preferably somewhere with the best firing lanes possible. In terms of board control I've always found that the smash captain either does lots or nothing (and for me it's usually the latter), I decided to go with the veterans because they're much better at soaking up firepower, don't require much cp support and can quickly reposition to delete a screen for the lib dread, then eat an overwatch for him. I've had the joy of using 4 lascanons with reroll to wound before and they do some real work. I have a game lined up next week to test the changes and I'll report back.
